I was in Suffolk for work for 3 days. The first day of work I convinced my coworker to go to a place I wanted to try so day 2 I said wherever he wanted to go was where we were going. He got out his phone and chose the closest place that sounded interesting. «Ever had Filipino?» he asked. I had not. «Me neither» was his reply. So we decided to right this wrong. When we walked into the place, we let the guy know we’d never had Filipino before. He was nice enough to take us through all the different food options and give us some recommendations. He even went as far as offering to let us taste some things if we werent sure we wanted to commit to unknown foods. Based on what he said, I got the pork adobo and a chicken dish I cant remember the name for(it was described as being like chicken and dumplings without the dumplings). Both of these dishes were super super delicious! I wanted to try more of the dishes but I was too full. Super tasty new dishes!

One of my favorite local quick, inexpensive & delicious lunch options, served by a warm and friendly staff who are always more than willing to answer questions or make suggestions. Top picks are the honey glazed chicken & veggie lumpia.

We were virgins to most Filipino cuisine outside the usual suspects around the area.(Lumpia, Pancit, adobo, and such). We got outside the box and took some recommendations from the very nice young man that was working that day and were wowed. Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious. Luckily we live quite close and can go again and again.

I eat lunch there every day i work in the area. The steam table always has a large variety of great stuff or you can order off the menu. It is a wonderful Filipino place run by wonderful people. a must!

Never again! Né-ver. We were not fans. Salty, overcooked, bland… I love food. Bad food makes me very sad. we don’t treat food badly, people. That’s just wrong. What they did here was wrong. I got halfway through and threw the rest out. My oldest daughter gasped. My youngest took my temperature. My middle demanded to know why I didn’t try to salvage it on the stove. Because, love, it was beyond salvageable. Life lessons were learned. Know when to cut ties. That chicken did not deserve what they did to it. For the record, I had the beef lumpia(super oily), chicken adobo, and veggie pancit(no idea why they omitted the veggies, in this dish).

Is it possible for a place to just get better and better each time you come?! My answer is a resounding and very exuberant«YES» when it comes to Totoy’s! Their food is top notch in every way, and always made to order(or at the very least fresh in the hot plate area)…food does NOT sit around long at this family owned and run eatery. And to put it quite simply, this is just about the best food you can get around the Hampton Roads area… anywhere…anytime! I am still hungering for a bit more… but isn’t that what a truly amazing eatery does to a person… leaves them longing for the next time they visit?! I would even venture to say that this eatery really is one in a million, and already looking forward to my return Totoy’s!

As usual, I go to grab a quick dinner after work and the place is closed! The website should reflect that they are open when they feel like it and NOT11 – 8. BADBUSINESSPRACTICES!

We ordered the pork pancit, both the chicken and pork siopao, assorted lumpia, chicken terriyaki, and the fish balls. I didn’t try the fish balls, but my boyfriend said they were pretty good. I tried the rest and we both loved everything! The pancit and the lumpia were amazing, and Linda, the owner could not have been more helpful when we came in. We can’t wait to go back!

I wanted to like this place, as I enjoy a wide variety of ethnic foods, but had never tried Filipino cuisine. Unfortunately, on two different visits at lunchtime, I found the food to be bland, and worse, lacking freshness. You order at a counter with all of the entrees premade sitting before you, so it is possible given the other, much higher reviews on here, that I simply came here on two unlucky occasions. But, with so many other options, two visits is enough.

I really wasn’t expecting the food to be good but to my surprise it was great. Nice quiet spot to enjoy traditional food and friends.

Nice little filipino restaurant. If someone didn’t tell me about it I wouldn’t have known it was there. Friendly, affordable, fast service, delicious food. The only down side is they do not have puto & other dessert type dishes like the other filipino places.

I wanted to love this place. I’d been here once before and loved it. This time it was rather mediocre. The food wasn’t hot or very flavorful. It’s like they took all the seasoning out. The rice was also overcooked. I don’t know if they have toned things down for the American palate, but it’s not working for me now. I want authentic!

A couple of weeks ago, I tried FILIPINO food for the first time.(Angie’s Bakery is located in Virginia Beach; give them some love and try pan de ube – you won’t regret it!) I have heard about lumpia from a friend for a long time and I saw Totoy’s on Unilocal.I decided to check it out. The inside of Totoy’s is small, but cozy; I love the pop of color on the walls. The place was hopping, which is usually a positive clue. The young man behind the counter was polite and friendly. I ordered chicken adobo with rice and one beef lumpia. He served the rice from the rice cooker, not keeping it under the heat lamps. The lumpia was cooked to order so it took a little bit longer. Here is my bill: 1 entrée $ 5.45 1 lumpia 60¢ Bottle of water 90¢ — — — — — — — — — — Total $ 7.82 The prices are inexpensive; even the bottled water is extremely fair. They take credit cards as long as a $ 4.00 minimum. Remember they’re closed on Sundays. Now that the business part is over, let’s get back to the food! Most people take their food to go; I carried mine to the car. The first item: hot, greasy, beef lumpia. Since it took me a while to photograph the rolling lumpia, it cooled down a bit so I didn’t burn my tongue. The first bite was heaven; the second bite was crunchy, full of flavor, and similar to a spring roll but way better. The tiny lumpia was over before I started. I should have bought a dozen! The second item: chicken adobo with rice. I figured adobo is usually darker but this dish was paler. The chicken was dark meat, tender and moist. The sauce had a touch of pineapple and onions throughout; the rice was the perfect companion for the sauce. I thought the dish was wonderful. Masarap!(Thank you, John L.) If you haven’t tried FILIPINO food before, then I highly recommend you stopped by Totoy’s. You will love it and be sure to pick up a dozen or two of lumpia.

I have to thank Steven for showing me the ropes at this place. I had seen it many times before but I’ve never eaten at a Phillipino restaurant so I was a bit intimidated to go in and order something blindly off the steam table. We got there right when they opened at 11 and they were preparing everything on the lunch steam table, which is a hot buffet-like table that has about 8 dishes made fresh everyday. Lynn, the owner, quickly came out and welcomed me right away, giving me descriptions of all the food as well as samples of whatever I wanted to try. She was so hospitable and kind; I would say for anyone on the fence about coming in and trying something new, not to hesitate because she really makes you feel comfortable about asking questions and what to order. Steven said I had to try the chicken adobo, which is a Philipino staple, so I got that and another entrée(which I now forget what it was called) but it had pork, onions, carrots, jalapenos, and a ranch-like dressing on top. You then choose rice or pancit. So for 2 entrees, pancit, and a coke I paid $ 8. And didn’t even finish everything. Fantastic deal. It was my first chicken adobo but the chicken was so moist and succulent, seasoned well and paired great with the cabbage. The pork dish was nice and spicy, a lot of complex flavors going on. Also, none of the food is greasy or has that«yucky» feeling; it’s totally different than Chinese food. It just reminded me of fresh, homemade food made with love. By noon, this place had really picked up and apparently you can experience a bit of a wait so I would definitley advise getting here early. Overall, I am pleasantly surprised with my first Philipino experience and the medley of flavors that go on. Everything was fresh and delicious and for $ 8, this will be our new go-to carryout place. New hidden gem in Suffolk!

The lumpia was salty. The pancit was excellent. Cool customer service. Too tiny for me to dine inside. Definitely call your order in ahead or you’ll be waiting nearly fifteen to twenty minutes.

Small place with a few tables. Prices are cheap and the good is good. Filipino food isn’t something we know, so we got a lot of things to try. The lumpish are tightly rolled and we liked them all but beef was best. Pepper steak and lemon twist chicken were really good! Tasty but not too spicy. Pancit was wonderful. We also had some other thing that was a bread roll around chicken and egg? It was ok. Staff was friendly and the take out order people were non stop coming and going. We will be back to try more.

This Filipino Restaurant is another turo turo style spot in Suffolk. I had been eating great lumpia all day and I was craving more, so I stopped at Totoy’s for another fix. These were the small ones, rolled really tightly, which are usually the kind I don’t like. I like the ones that are fat and falling apart :) I liked that they had a variety of vegetable, beef, pork and chicken. I liked that they were 50 cents apiece. They were good, but definitely not the best I’ve ever had. I wish I had the appetite to sample more dishes from Totoy’s, but this is strictly a review of the lumpia. Based on their photo collages and thank you cards splattered all over the walls, it’s obvious Totoy’s is another community Filipino spot, beloved by all who go there.
