The First Colony Library is my favorite library in the Fort Bend County Library System. I’ve been coming here since the mid-1990s. It’s the prettiest of the libraries. There is lots of natural light coming indoors. There are lots of study carrels, study rooms, and large communal tables. Its clientele is diverse. On a typical day, it’s 80−90% non-Caucasian. You find a huge section of books in Chinese and lots of Chinese elderly reading in the newspaper/magazine couch area. Or you might run into your cool English teacher from high school. They have used book sales every few months. You’ll find books for very cheap prices – 25, 50 cents, etc… I check the Fort Bend County Library calendar to keep track of these book sales. The restroom is adequately clean but I’ve seen someone in the women’s restroom not wash her hands before. The library is located on the northeast quadrant of the Grants Lake Blvd @ Austin Pkwy intersections. It’s right across from the post office. Parking can be kind of tight sometimes; the area has a high concentration of well-educated families with overachiever offspring. There is a small lake just to the east of the library where you can watch ducks and feed them HEALTHY duck pellets because bread is bad for ducks.

It is a good place to study and read. There are many many many many books and newspapers in the shelves. You can read it. Some people reserve the computer for them to play, work, and research.

Good place to study — several study rooms, multiple study cubbies, cushioned couches, and open tables. After school’s out, it gets a little noisier, but as long as you’re in the far corner of the library(away from the entrance) the noise shouldn’t be a problem.

Small cozy library. I hope libraries never go extinct! They have 6 study rooms & lots of tutoring/homework going on in here! :) Study, study, study or read, read, read!
