I went in to buy a pair of shoes for Christmas for my daughter. I first could not get anyone to help me then when I was home about to wrap the shoes, I looked in the box and found they were not even the same shoes. Now I am on the phone and nobody will answer the phone and it won’t kick back over to the operator for further assistance. Then when someone picked up in customer service she was rude.

Horrible experience. We waited for 20 minutes at the gun counter just to get the price of a shot gun. There were two people working behind the counter in the gun department and three shoppers in the entire store. Then we waited in line for 10 minutes to check out with two cashiers open and two people checking out.

I went with my father and no one pays attention to you, any other place you go to customer service always ask if there’s anyway they can help. These people completely ignore you. I had to chase a guy down to ask about a fire arm.

Love this store. Well-kept and clean. Love the women’s section– they always have great items. Would highly recommend!

Zero stars Huge store. Clueless idiots for employees and only about 4 in the whole store working. Shoes, fitting all took forever. Paying– a JOKE. I’ll gladly pay more and go to Bass Pro next time !

The store itself is large, but well organized. However, I couldn’t locate any helper in the shoe department or any other departments. I think they were all at the cash register area. My daughter and I left with a dirty look from one of the cashier.

Wish I could give it –2 stars. The employees here are all a bunch if lazy, clueless fools. No one says«Hi», asks if you need anything or cares if they make a sale. We stay very far away from this place. I would rather drive an hour and go to Bass Pro, at least their employees give a damn.

It’s a sporting goods store further away from me than Academy. The staff, like other reviewers have mentioned, are not helpful. During my visit to the store I overheard staff members making fun of a customer. Will not go back.

Tried calling their customer service, was put on hold the first time i called. I hung up and called again this time reaching a person and asked my question and was put on hold almost instantly and he said he was going to check if they had any…30mins later… he gets back on to say no we don’t have them in stock. Thank you for wasting 30mins of my life

Okay, if you like camping, they sell various, awesome cast iron tools with long handles for cooking over a fire. I can now cook four to five hotdogs at a time! I spent almost all of my time in the camping and outdoor section. Didn’t really enjoy the«feel» of the store. While the outside looks impressive, once you walk it, it has this old, no one put any thought into it feeling. They sell similar merchandise to Academy including apparel. I would maybe be back for some camping supplies, but that would be it. Academy would probably be a better destination.

Hmmm… where do I start. Gander’s best employee at the Sugar Land location is an elderly woman who works at the front, as a cashier. She’s something every other Gander employee isn’t: friendly, actually says hello when you walk in, doesn’t walk the other way when you approach them, in effect, does her job, simply by acting in a respectful, courteous manner. Now to every other employee, that I either observed or had communication with in my 3 store trips there. Adjectives: slow, uncaring, anti-customer service. I actually saw employees sulking as they dragged their behinds through the store. I thought to myself, I’m unemployed and they’re sad, they act like someone owes them something??? What??? That’s exactly what I saw. Now to store management, he’s actually the assistant store manager,(with emphasis on the first three letters of assistant). A guy named Dan Stiner… I’m assuming the guy thinks he’s a corporate big wig, he’s not. He’s the assistant mgr. of a sporting goods store. Which is funny, because I was the assistant store manager of a shoe store in California, Thom McAn(remember them?). Can you believe I walked into this store, with a smile on my face, was told Mr. Stiner was in the back of the store, instead of him simply walking out and saying hi, he sends out his lemming to take my name and phone #, in other words, another brush off. The part of the story I didn’t tell you about was that I was a prospective applicant, looking for work in this curiously«sweet town», Sugar Land, Tx. What I didn’t know, is how ingrained racism can be, even though it’s the Mexicans who are building this town, who are mowing acres and acres of land, clearing the fields for new homes, whereby many are becoming incredibly wealthy. With that being said, I have 10 – 15 years of combined sales, customer service, communications, construction work, plus I’m an avid cyclist, athlete, weight lifter with direct experience in sales. Yet this clown, Dan Stiner, would not even show me the decency to speak with me to evaluate my skill set and work experience? Why not? Oh yes, he did call, after I filed a negative store survey, which was supposed to be confidential, yet this clown, Dan Stiner, calls me and informs me of it. That’s funny, how did he know I filed that survey? The purpose is to protect the privacy of the consumer. Yet he brought it up, in order to intimidate me… because big man can’t accept that Hispanics have equal intelligence, and certainly more work ethic than people like him. With all that being said, now I know why people would rather shop at Costco than Gander Mountain.
