I volunteer at the Petco down the street. I saw that there were no cars at the location. It’s out of business.

Heard great things about the Kobecue downtown so when the one in SL opened up, my girlfriend and I decided to check it out. Very spacious and a good convenient location. We both got stone bowls and I also ordered a chicken taco. The stone bowls were okay, maybe 3 stars. However Kobecue gets 2 stars because the taco was done horribly. When I pay over $ 2 for a taco, I expect a taco. Not some meat, lettuce and sauce thrown sloppily together. The chicken was also extremely overcooked and dry. I also wasn’t asked what kind of tortilla I wanted. The workers/owners(?) are very nice and you can tell that they are trying very hard. They probably get supplied and follow the recipes from the parent store. So I would suggest to SL Kobecue: hire a new chef.

I waited until they had been opened for awhile to check it out. Went on 6⁄7 for lunch and we were the only ones in there. The girls behind the counter were extremely nice and helpful on what to order since we had never been before to any location. I ordered the Bibimbob burger and kimchi fries. Oh my goodness that was spicy! If you like spicy food come check it out. The hot stone bowls are pretty deep and give you a lot of food to enjoy. Worth a second visit…

The Sugar Land food scene is slowly becoming more diverse, with ITL restaurants opening up locations here. I appreciate the variety but the quality just isn’t there yet. Dropped by for lunch and ordered a Crispy Chicken taco and Kimchi cheese fries with steak. Total came out to be $ 10 without a drink. Ouch! What really hurt was how teeny the taco filling was. It was a lonely chicken breast strip with a wee smidgen of onions and cilantro. The chicken itself was unseasoned and needed a lot more spicy mayo sauce than what was given(almost none) to give it flavor. Sadly I can get a better tasting(and more filling) taco at any taqueria for less. The fries were okay but hard to justify for $ 8 for some added protein. Just remember that there are tastier Korean-Tex-mex options out there~

Cute little set up. Reminded me of Pei Weis for some reason. The cashier wasn’t very friendly nor was she helpful. She kept starring too while we ate. lol To say the least, she was annoying. They could’ve definitely done a better job at hiring a more upbeat and friendly staff. I ordered the spicy pork burger which was the sloppiest burger I’ve ever had. The pork had good flavor to it. But a bit too messy for me. The spicy wings were to «saucy» and overall not terrible but not the best I’ve had. Place was just OK. I may or may not be coming back. Hopefully I do not see that same little Hispanic girl there at the register again.

Kobecue gets one star for its nice facilities and fancy coke dispenser. The other four stars were taken off because this was absolutely the worst«Korean» food I’ve ever had the displeasure of experiencing. In fact, the only reason I’m taking the time to write this review is to warn you guys that even«Korean-fusion» isn’t a suitable label. All expectations aside, and judging only the quality of the food would not change my review at all. We ordered kimchi fried rice with steak, a spicy pork bibimbap, and a seafood pancake. Pretty much standard Korean faire. The kimchi fried rice tasted like ketchup and the rice was so mushy that it was more akin to one giant glob. The meat tasted more like cafeteria meat than any Korean marinated meat I’ve tried. The seafood pancake was all liquid batter inside and burnt outside… WTF is this??? The bibimbap came in a stone bowl, but this didn’t do anything to the rice. The entire reason the stone bowl is used in dolsot bibimbap is to make the rice nice and crispy. Guess what? NOPE, mushy rice all throughout. Besides the strange consistency and non-Koreanness of the food here, its flavors were just off. Not sure how else to put it. Maybe the tacos and burgers are the only things worth getting. However, I would strongly advise against trying their attempts at Korean cooking! —- EDIT7÷5÷13 —– Okay, I went back. There was something in the back of my mind that felt like Kobecue deserved a second chance. We ordered some tacos and a burger and they were pretty good. Lots of flavor in the meat, good bun/tortillas. Not much else to say, but it made up for the last experience above. Lesson learned: don’t expect good traditional food from a fusion joint!

I visited Kobecue for lunch today, and as a first-time customer I was NOT impressed in any way whatsoever. The service was decent but not spectacular, but the food was absolutely terrible. Upon arriving I asked the young lady taking my order what their claim to fame was and she told me the stone bowl steak. Steak, vegetables and rice served in an extremely hot stone bowl. Whoop de doo, but I was willing to give it a shot. I placed my order, got my drink, and sat down. Within 30 seconds, my stone bowl was delivered to my table(freshly cooked food, made to order? I think not!). I expected heat to be rising up from the surface of the steak, but it was not to be found. I took a bite and the beef was literally lukewarm at best and quite dry. The vegetables, which were buried below the meat but above the rice, were, on the other hand, extremely hot, as was the rice. In fact, after a little digging, I realized the rice was actually burnt and stuck together at the bottom of the bowl. I don’t know about you, but burnt rice is incredibly disgusting — almost as disgusting as lukewarm, moisture-free steak meat. Combined, they equal a dish that is best not served at all. To add a little moisture and flavor to my dish, I attempted to try some of their sauce, which was in a squeeze bottle on the table. Turns out that bottle was clogged at the tip. A little extra pressure from my hand resulted in sauce squirting out and all over myself, the table, and my hands. Unacceptable! After visiting the restroom to clean myself up, I left with little fanfare and a definite lack of a smile on my face. Reflecting on this«stone bowl» concept, I think it’s a terrible idea for serving any kind of food, and Kobecue would be wise to abandon this idea completely.

The restaurant itself is pretty. Nice hardwood floors and a fancy drink machine like other reviews say. Saw some flies buzzing around, the little ones but its dimly lit so I didn’t see them at first. The employees(quite a few just walking around) were nice and greeted us with smiles but could do with some more training, both on the menu and how to work the pos machines. On to the food… I had their burger and kimchi onion rings… They looked and tasted like frozen store bought onion rings, definitely not worth the 5.25 I paid. The bun is pretty good but so thick and was soggy. The meat was lukewarm at best but the flavors I thought was ok. Skimpy on the meat for sure, I was eating bun. I also ordered a stone bowl on recommendation by an employee and it was not worth the price although definitely seemed more fresh than the burger. Unimpressed, paid too much. Will not be back.

Epic FAIL! I was so excited to have a Korean fusion restaurant open up nearby. I checked out their menu online and their bibimbap burger looked creative and enticing. Of course I dragged the mister out to try it. Ughhhh… what a bust! Super stingy on the banchan(little plates of appetizers), stingy on the rice in the bibimbap bowl, and I had NO tofu in my tofu soup. Chewy, tough strips of meat with floating anchovies in a red, yucky broth. WTF?! I checked the menu to make sure it was tofu soup I ordered. Yea, seriously, the food here was sooooo off point, I was embarrassed making the bf come here. The flavors were wack and did NOT resemble Korean food at all. Yuck, do not come here unless you want to be underwhelmed and overly disappointed! This place was pretty disgusting and I will stick to Bellaire when craving Asian food.

OK, I REALLY wanted to like this place. We had been to the Richmond one often, and never had any bad experiences. So I read the not-so-great reviews, and thought, well, it’s a new place, so chances r they are still working out kinks. Last week I ordered takeout on Thursday. Got the kimchi pancake and the spicy pork stone bowl. The pancake was fine. Sauce and veggies on top, fine. My husband was eating the stone bowl(which when you do takeout obviously comes in a plastic bowl), and was chewing and spit something out. He was like, what is it? And it’s a rock! Like a fingertip sized pebble, gray, smooth, HARD. We kinda stared at it for a minute, like where in the world would that have come from? Wasn’t a bone. I decided not to try his bowl, didn’t feel the need to crack teeth accidentally. I called Kobecue, and asked to talk to the manager. I didn’t ask for anything, and he didn’t offer anything. He said, oh, that’s strange, we’ll keep an eye out. !!! What did I expect? I don’t know. It’s almost like a made-up thing or something, who finds rocks in their food?! Anyway, I guess even if the manager had apologized and offered a free meal, I probably wouldn’t have gone back anyway. YIKES!!! Hope other people have better experiences…

Maybe if I had never had real Korean BBQ or if Bellaire was more than 20 miles away from me, I would have enjoyed this. I love my bibimbap so when I heard that a Korean BBQ place opened up literally half a mile from me, I was stoked. I finally ventured in here with the misses and we settled on our general go-tos, my bibimbap and her tofu soup. The bibimbap meat was tough, flavorless and chewy. The amount of rice in the bowl was minimal compared to what I’m used to. The appetizers were pretty lackluster as well. Her tofu soup, had no tofu in it and the meat in the soup was tough and chewy just like mine. When it comes to Korean BBQ, I don’t think it’s meant to be a forced commercialized or fusion type food. This just didn’t work, definitely won’t be back.

Meh is a good description of this restaurant. My wife’s rice bowl consisted of dried out, unseasoned chicken breast, some stir fry veggies, and rice. It was supposed to come with sauce but the kitchen didn’t bother. My «spicy»(air quotes intentional, there wasn’t anything spicy about this meal) pork stone bowl was helped a little by the sauce on the table, but it wasn’t anything to get excited over. At a little more than $ 10 for an entrée, I want to feel something more than meh. As with the uninspiring Bullritos this replaced, the best part of the restaurant is the fancy Coke machine. We won’t be back.

I was excited and starving after a 9 hour drive from Florida without any meals. I regret eating here. Is this location related to the one on Richmond? If so, they are complete opposites! The miso soup was good. But hey, how can you mess up what’s probably a powder mix? I got the short rib BBQ platter. I don’t recommend it. It was extremely bland and lacked the char flavor it should have despite being served on a sizzling plate. I wish I returned it after my first bite, but it was my only meal of the day. To top it off, the server dropped one of my ribs on the table when he set down the hot plate and just said«sorry.» Didn’t offer to get me a new one or anything. My friend got the tofu stone bowl. It lacked flavor as well. We had to ask for the egg because they forgot to add it to the dish. I doubt this place will last long… bad food, bad service and bad location for the customers they are trying to attract.

The good: kimchi fries the okay: dumplings, wings, stone bowl The bad: the cashier who has no interest in the place, dirty silverware, no kids menu, and the steak burger is a joke. My burger had very little meat, 1 piece of lettuce, 1 small slice of a tomato all on a huge cold bun. My 8 year old laughed at it. The problem is that people had high hopes for this place because of their other location… my guess… make sure managemt hired the right people to cook and work there.

I knew I forgot to write a review for this place. Haha… -================================================- Recommend: Kimchi Fries w/meat + egg, Sizzling Plate, oh. and ALWAYSASKFORSPICYMAYO. :)) -================================================- On opening day I had my usual fix from the Richmond location, Kimchi fries w/meat plus an egg on top, along with a Beef Sizzling Plate that has nice portions for an empty stomach and a Stone Bowl to finish it off. Tasted awesome, felt good as always and knew I’d come back for another visit. The layout of the restaurant is also comfortable, perfect spacing, chill atmosphere and of course the Coke Fountain machine in the corner next to the lavatory. However, they’ve had their not-so-good business days but I won’t be too hard on this location. Such as the cashier not knowing the menu quite well, and a few times where I’ve seen trays almost being dropped whenever food is delivered to the customers. Keep it up Kobecue Sugar Land, you’ll see me quite often on weekends. :)

I had been impatiently waiting for this place to open ever since I found out they were opening in Sugar Land. I had never been to the other location, but my sister would always bring me kimchi fries whenever she did and I absolutely love them. Going to the other location is very out of the way for me so knowing that they were opening one in the Land of Sugar was very exciting for me. I didn’t end up going on opening week simply because of the rush. I have them«liked» on facebook and ended up seeing all of the negative comments people were posting. I saw that they decided to close on Thursday to train their staff some more so I decided I would try it on Friday because I was getting a little impatient. The interior is beautiful — dimly lit with orange lanterns along the ceiling. We were very confused upon entering. Do we wait to be seated? Do we go to the counter? There was no one to greet us or no one up there so we had no idea. We decided to just walk to the counter and assumed our order would be taken there. We were right! I ended up ordering 2 grilled chicken tacos($ 2.49 each) and kimchi cheese fries($ 4.99). She asked if I wanted the tacos with a sweet or spicy sauce and I chose the spicy sauce. My husband ordered the bibimbob burger with regular fries($ 7.25 I think). We were then given a number and were able to choose our own table. We choose a booth and proceeded to get our drinks. The drink machine, like everyone is saying, is incredible. It’s the same kind that Pei Wei has — completely digital. I chose a Dr. Pepper and it gave me options of choosing Dr. Pepper Cherry or Dr. Pepper Vanilla. My husband chose coke and he got about 5 subchoices. Very cool. Our food came to us about 5 minutes later. VERY quick service. The food was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious. The tacos were seasoned very well and the chicken was nice and tender. The fries were hot and the kimchi was just right. There were two sauces on the table and both were very delicious. Fire was spicy but not unbearable and bibimbob was sweet and very flavorful. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. Overall, we’ll definitely be back. especially if they do the 50% off deal they’re promising(or coupons!!). The prices are very reasonable and you definitely get what you pay for. I haven’t tried the stone bowls so I can’t speak for them, but I definitely will next time because they looked amazing.

I came here because my mom was so excited about this place and wanted to try it. I’ve been to the kobecue in Richmond awhile ago, and my experience was pretty good, so naturally I’m going to encourage my mom about this place. My mom & I came in and ordered food to-go. I had the kimchi fried rice with spicy pork. It was pretty good, not amazing. However, some chunks of my rice were really hard(similar to rice sticking to the hot stone pot at the very end of a meal). Every bite was a surprise whether I’d get normal rice or hard rice. The rice was really. How do I say. Grainy? Like the rice wasn’t cooked properly. My mom had ordered the seafood tofu soup, and needless to say she was disappointed. First off, the to-go container was TINY for both soup AND rice. If you’re gonna pay $ 7.99, give a better portion, even for to-go food. Most of the soup were clam shells, and that takes up a pretty big volume for a to-go container. My mom also complained about the rice not being cooked well. We ordered the steak burger for my dad with kimchi cheese fries. My dad didn’t complain about the burger. The kimchi cheese fries were pretty good, but they didn’t seem fresh and crispy originally. The first fry I grabbed was soggy. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt for being so new, and that maybe the staff isn’t used to cooking this stuff. Maybe I’ll come back in a couple of months.

First of, I have to say that this place has the single coolest digital touch screen soft drink dispenser I’ve ever seen. I came because I heard the kimchi fries are the bomb. And indeed they are! The fries are covered liberally with sliced pork or steak, shredded cheddar, cilantro kimchi and onions. Your foods comes out sizzling hot as a good Korean dish should. Spicy pork was seasoned very nicely with a hint of dark rice syrup and lots of gochujang(red pepper paste). The give you a lot of side dishes to justify the cost of your meal. The only thing i didn’t like was the fried egg on my grilled chicken hot stone bowl. It did not have a runny yolk to season the rice. All and all it was a good meal! I’d come back to play with the soda machine!
