Kroger

I’ve been coming to this Kroger for over a decade now. There’s usually a good and fresh selection of items, but sale items do get snapped up quickly. And I have unfortunately had several encounters with snarky service people at the customer service desk.
The prices (without sales or coupons) are slightly higher than HEB, but they do carry different brands and products that I sometimes cannot get at HEB. But overall I still prefer HEB because of the prices. Example: the Horizon organic 2% lactose free milk is $ 1.00 cheaper at HEB.
The fuel points for Shell gas are a nice perk to shopping at Kroger. And the Starbucks inside is a nice place to grab your coffee when the drive through across the street is jammed!

I recently moved to Sugar Land and ventured into this Kroger, excited for the new deals of the week. On this particular trip I took my 14 month old daughter with me who happened to go #2 as soon as we walked through the entrance. No problem, just head to the bathroom for a quick diaper change, right? WRONG. In the women’s restroom there is NO CHANGING TABLE. The ladies at the floral station didn’t offer any support or help so I can to go back outside while it was super cold out, and change my baby in the back of my car. Needless to say, it started my experience off on the wrong foot.

One of the better Kroger’s in the area. Courteous staff and pretty clean. They have a nice organic food section and a bunch of vegan options that you wouldn’t find at a Walmart, but you’d most likely find at an H-​E-​B. Decent wine selection too. At the end of the day, it’s a grocery store, but it’s always good to find things that you were looking for.

Stopped into the store today because I want to make strawberry shortcake. We could not find the cake shells anywhere. A young lady by the name of Carnie tried to find them — she even went into the backroom and freezer. The store is out of the shells :(

Just had the best produce shopping experience! Kroger has stepped up their game and it really shows in the produce department. They had the best looking selection of organics I’ve seen in a long time. as well as their conventional produce. Watch out Whole Foods!!! Kroger has got my attention now!!! Also have to mention, went on looking for one of those «hard to find» battery sizes and was amazed at the assortment they had, and they had the one I was looking for. I think this place has won my dedication back!

My gawd, has this place always been this dirty? I mean the sidewalk, the store in general, the table area off Starbuck’s, *everything*! Litter and filth. I was stuck with eating a sort of meal from their sushi bar the other day (Antonia’s being closed and Thai Cottage having too long a line for me to make my massage appointment) and I could not find a single clean table. Absolutely disgusting. And it wasn’t a fluke — I have a look every time I have a massage, and it’s consistently filthy. How do the moneyed people in this area put up with it?

It’s 24 hours and very close to my parents’ crib, so it’s perfect for when I hang with the parents’ and need to make a quick run to forage some vegan-​suitable treats for myself (mainly Amy’s Kitchen goodies). Like most (if not all) Krogers, this one has a three or so aisles dedicated to organic/​vegetarian/​non-​GMO prepackaged food brands. Occasionally, I’ll stumble across some great sales or clearance items and I’ll stock up because I’m not the biggest fan of constantly paying Whole Food-​prices for some of my staples. Oh what’s that? A Starbucks within the store? All the better to caffeinate myself with!
I realize that Kroger isn’t faring so well with HEBs and Walmarts popping up everywhere and one of the other Kroger in Sugar Land recently went out of business, but I appreciate the «variety» in options and the convenience of this one can’t be beat.

I have to admit that this location is by far the best in all the depts, I went with my daughter n she started crying to get this cupcake n it was too many for her but then came this lady rekha from cake and dessert dept and she made my daughter stop crying, she was so sweet n caring, this isn’t first time that they have done this, this location staff is caring n curtious, from now. On this is my one stop shop for cakes n desserts too,

Ah, the handy dandy neighborhood grocery store. I’ve been shopping at this Kroger ever since my mom used to drag me with her as a kid. In recent years, I’ve been frequenting it myself. For the most part, it’s never really let me down– however, there is the odd exception.
Pros
— Prices are reasonable, especially with the Kroger card.
— They now carry the Simple Truth Organic brand.
— Super sweet florist lady, who just last week helped me by placing my huge chosen vase of roses in a wrapped bucket, making it easier for me to handle in the rain, and thereby ensuring nothing leaks in the car. She deserves a star of her own!
Cons
— For some reason, they always seem to be out of the organic milk I need!
— At least 2 of their 4 self-​check machines seem to be down on a continuous basis.
— If you attempt to ask an employee where an item is located, you may as well be speaking gibberish.
Overall though, this place has never really let me down. Just beware of crazy packed parking, especially during the weekends and peak hours.

Don’t like this store as much as the one that closed on Settlers Way Blvd. A little more pricey here and the customer service is not as good.

Well now this is a pretty nice Kroger. Not only does it seem clean and new, but there is a large selection of items, and decent prices. This puts my Kroger in Huntsville to shame. Too bad I don’t live near it.

In Atlanta, you pretty much have 3 choices for groceries. There is a Kroger on almost every block, Publix is pretty common too, and WalMart Super Centers are usually near by. And that is pretty much it for major grocery store choices in the ATL. Consequently I have been shopping at Kroger for what seems like forever, and I was stunned when I moved to Houston and saw just how many grocery store chains there were in this town. H E B, Randalls, and Fiestas, oh my, dotted the landscape as far as the eye could see. And that doesn’t even account for all the smaller local chains, Walmarts, Asian Markets and SuperTargets. Yes grocery competition is alive and well deep in the heart of Houston.
Maybe that’s why the Krogers in this town have to be the cleanest, nicest, most well stocked, and well laid out of their kind I have ever seen. This is Kroger done right, with lots of selection, friendly staff, and clean clean clean stores. You will also find excellence in the specialty sections of the stores here, which usually include a great florist, a good quality deli and bakery, and an above average meat department. And this Sugar Land location is one of the best of it’s kind, lacking only a gas station to make it complete.
And why is a gas station important? Why it’s because you can get 10 cents off per gallon on their already competitive fuel prices, per $ 100 spent on groceries in the store. With an average of $ 200 spent per month between myself and my roommate that ends up being 20 cents a gallon off on at least one full tank of gas per month. Fortunately there is another Kroger location with a filling station not too terribly far from me on Westheimer where I can use my fuel points.
To get the most out of Kroger it is imperative that you sign up for a Kroger Plus card and that you pay attention to their weekly sales. In the first place you have to have a Kroger Plus card to take advantage of the aforementioned fuel savings, and in the second you need it to qualify for many of the sales that Kroger runs. Additionally if you give them your home address they will eventually start sending you coupons that are based on your buying habits, really really good coupons. I mean like a free dozen eggs, or free can of tomato soup, or free half gallon of ice cream good. And those coupons can be combined with sales, and with manufacturer coupons as well. It’s also important to check the sales paper as well since many of the sale items at Kroger will be the lowest price you will find in town.
Now if money is no object, and you just want to shop at a really nice grocery store you can skip all of that stuff of course, but honestly, most of the work is done for you, and it is totally worth it in my opinion to put in a little effort to get extra value.
So yes, there are lots of grocery shopping choices in Houston, but after looking over the competition, comparing their sales papers, and doing some selective shopping, I’ve found the local Kroger is still my favorite choice for value, selection, and shopping experience.

Krogers is pretty nice at this location although sometimes its hard to find sales items that are in the ads. The produce is usually of good quality. The staff is very nice. I used to go more when they had better coupon deals. Beware of their electronic coupons. When you load them online, they sometimes don’t appear on your receipt and if you go to customer service, they will tell you that they are not responsible for the computer not having coupons that were functioning. That kinda sucks because you might have only bought the item because of the coupon that didn’t show up on your receipt. You don’t know what to do about it at that point because they won’t refund you or credit the coupon at the customer service counter. Randalls is not like that. I would suggest printing the e-​coupons instead of loading on your card to make sure you get them.

As with any grocery store chain, there are pros and cons to Kroger’s. That being said, when I have to drag my sorry self to the grocery store, this is a top choice for convenience and speed. Other than being the closest store to my home here are the…
Pros:
–Good layout, especially since the remodel. Makes it fast in and out unlike HEB
–Nice florist with well priced roses and good selection of flowers
–Good deli usually faster than HEB
–Good selection of produce including organic at better prices than Wholefoods
–Great wine selection with a knowledgeable manager. Andre knows his stuff and manages to get rare allocated wines, like Pahlmeyer. He even gives tastings when he has open bottles, and there are often distributers giving tastings.
–Nice cheese dept. with great tastings and pairings to educate the buyer in new unique combos of cheese, crackers, fruit and jams.
–Very nice staff that takes the time to greet customers, get to know regulars, and offer help. Fairly low turnover helps.
–Nice app where you can load coupons you want onto your Kroger card from your computer. When you swipe it at checkout, these coupons show up if you have bought the item. No more clipping and they delete when they expire so you don’t have to purge your coupons anymore.
Cons:
–Bakery is hit or miss. Their birthday cakes aren’t great but their chocolate, chocolate chip muffins (not made in house) are to die for and hard to find as they sell quickly. Their gourmet breads are boring to the taste. Whole foods has better bread and Sam’s better cakes.
–Cooked chickens are overpriced. Often the large ones for $ 7.99 are barely bigger than the smaller for $ 5.99. Both are smaller than Sam’s. Go after 9 pm and they mark them down quite a bit if any are left. Sam’s Club is the clear winner in the precooked chicken wars.
–Their meat dept. is okay, but again, lags behind HEB and Sam’s. Their fish dept. can’t hold a candle to Whole Foods or HEB.
–Makeup dept. is pricier than HEB and smaller.
–Pharmacy takes too long.
–No in store clinic like HEB
–Have to go to the customer svs. desk to get recycle tickets for the Primo water jugs vs using the machine at Loews or HEB. I can’t tell you the times I’ve waited for 10 minutes behind some lotto ticket buyer or money order buyer to redeem my empties.
–They’ve cut down on the sackers and cashiers again. It was great for a few weeks when every isle was open and sackers in orange vests awaited. No one offers to carry out or help with the heavy Primo jugs. I often sack my own.
–No cooking connection for recipe ideas like HEB. I love the help and unusual sauce selections HEB offers.
–Have to use Kroger card to get the discounts meaning your purchases are tracked and info is no doubt sold. I like one price for all like at HEB.

I rarely go shopping at Kroger now that I’m near an HEB. But every now and then, I stop by on the way home to grab a couple of things.
The self check out lines are fast and easy to use. You can find most things here at a cheap price.
It helps to have a Kroger card if you shop here often so you can take advantage on some of the savings and even gas.

What do you say about a grocery store but that this one is wonderful. I like the lay out and the lighting. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good experience.

There are many grocery stores closer to me, but I go here to shop. They have lots of organic, natural, hippie goodies. They also carry such things generally at a cheaper price than Whole Foods. They have a great produce and ready made section too. They are always running sales, and I have no problems using coupons here. Plus they are open 24 hours, and sometimes with my schedule I can’t get to the store till late at night so that is just an added plus.

I totally agree with Angel F. The Kroger team here is super friendly. The store is always clean and everything is pretty easy to find. I love that they have an indoor redbox machine which makes it so convenient when returning or renting a movie. The deli section is perfect to grab a quick lunch. There’s also a starbucks inside. The lady that works at the floral department is always so helpful when it comes to picking out anything from birthday flowers to a house warming plant. Parking can somethings be a pain but only during peak hours like… after work.
I know grocery stores are all the same… but I really like this one for their great customer service :)

They have by far the friendliest people that work here… From the guy that makes the Sushi, the guy that is over the wine dept, cashiers and managers. If you are looking for a good wine to try ask for Andre… he will definitely point you in the right direction.
