La Madeleine French Bakery & Cafe

My family’s favorite place. Food is good and the place is very cozy. We enjoy spending time there, specially with a cup of coffee.

Worst service ever. They have one person working the Togo line taking orders, taking money, filling soup and bagging the food. Horrible!

As much as I love the food here, the service can be off putting because they really show it when giving you your food. Not an ounce of politeness, and they try and rush you, even when it’s not busy (no one was behind me when I was getting food.). The bussers are more polite than the counter service people. That’s not something that should happen in the restaurant industry. Luckily, the pastries and food are worth coming back for. (It saved them from being a two star establishment). Hopefully, the service can improve so that I can change the ratings.

Food is ok but this place is not managed well. The workers are always very slow, creating looooong lines. Why so slow? & WHY do they insist on refilling the French onion soup from a giant plastic bag?!? So unappetizing. Bring out a fresh pot & replace the other. Simple. Unappealing to see it’s just been heated in an industrial size bag. Definitely no soup being made fresh daily! :(l always assumed the ‘cooks’ in the back were actually cooking but now I’m thinking they are opening boxes & bags & just hearing frozen food. Sad.
Also there are times where the silverware caddy is empty or very low. & recently it was so hot/​stuffy that we couldn’t wait to finish & leave.
It could be so much better if someone took charge & reorganized.
That being said, I like the tomato basil soup. Daughter likes the spinach quiche & potato soup. The French ham & cheese sandwich was ok. Salads look good, too.

The breakfast and pastries are delicious. However the customer service is poor. Yesterday my coworker and I went to get the free pastry promotion and the lady at the counter was extremely rude. She would not give us the promo until we said «Tis the season!» Even though the promo said you could mention gingerbread tart. It wasn’t that we didn’t say it that got us upset but the rudeness and smirk she gave my coworker.
La Madeleine should not put people to serve In the front if they do not have people or service skills. It will deter customers from coming in the future.
I am a regular customer, often coming on for breakfast. It was really sad to see this. I will think twice before coming back here again.

La Madeleine has always been a family favorite, and I’ve been frequenting this location for 10+ years. This was my first La Madeleine, and I’ve since come to love all the other La Madeleine’s in Houston, Austin, and Dallas.
Originally, this location was a nice homey atmosphere with warm wooden tables/​chairs, blazing fireplace, & wine glasses for water/​beverages with classy yummy casual French foods. It’s a great place for a peaceful morning by the windows, leisurely drinking coffee and munching on free bread and jams. It’s in a great location by the mall and Town Center. I was excited whenever we went to eat at La Madeleine’s or bought cakes to-​go for parties.
However, over the past ten years, the wooden tones were switched with cheap flimsy plastic-​y tables/​chairs. Early on, the sophisticated wine glasses were swapped (understandably) to the normal glasses that didn’t break so easily. The wonderful cozy image of La Madeleine slowly became tainted with some bad impressions.
I used to love the country potato soup, but then one day I saw an employee pour hot steaming soup out of a plastic bag into the soup container in the serving/​ordering line area. I understand la Madeleine is a chain and they may not make the soup in-​house fresh. I understand bags are an effective way to store soup. What irked me was that the soup was boiling hot in a plastic bag and possibly microwaved. The idea of plastic chemicals leeching into the soup is a huge turnoff for me. I don’t know what other restaurants may do behind the counter in the kitchen, but this was just eye-​opening to me.
On my last visit, there were flies in the pastry fridge. The other customers and I were eyeing the dance of the flies, and I brought it up to the employee. She threw up her hands in exasperation and said «again?!» to the other employee who was in charge of the (apparently reoccurring) problem. Well I have no clue now whether there are major pest and sanitation issues in the kitchen where the rest of the food is handled if their display case had flies frolicking about.
Now the food is still fine, but I personally think the Rice Village location tastes more fresh and better.
As a fun side note, I once compared the portion difference between a cup and a bowl of soup, by pouring a bowl of soup into a cup. Bowl is obviously larger, but actually the additional volume was not by much… so one would conclude it is more economical to get a cup instead.
It’s a decent place to grab some food with friends or get some cakes/​pastries for a party, but there’s much to be desired & improved at its current state.

Can’t beat the eggs Benedict here, the best I’ve had. The atmosphere is like sitting in a pleasant French cabin, nice for reading a book and relaxing while drinking an ice cold tea. They play classical music which I love and even teach you French words, you can hear it over the speakers on the bathroom while you oui oui.

The basil pesto pasta is my all time favorite. Definitely recommend it! Along with that, basil tomato soup or country potato is a creamy and well worth it pairing with a side of strawberry romanoff.
Sometimes their bread is a little old/​stale and it needs to be changed every few hours but other than that, definitely recommend la Madeline. Their desserts are delish. Try the fruit tart or the Sacher torte. Or their Madeline cookies with chocolate almond croissants.

It’s a nice little cozy spot to come for a bite to eat. They even have a fireplace inside.
I typically come here for the dessert. They have the best cheesecake and coconut cake and all their desserts are pretty cheap compared to other restaurants.
Tried their famous tomato basil soup. It just tasted like spaghetti sauce.
Had to go back to the counter because they forgot my sister’s food, and the worker was too busy texting. Didn’t even put his phone away when I approached him.

The best breakfast I have ever had in Sugar land ever since! I absolutely love this place. Recommend it to anyone who loves french pastries and macaroons!

I was underwhelmed by the food and service at this restaurant. I had the tomato basil soup which tasted a lot like a marinara sauce for a pasta. It was not hardy there were no chunks of tomatoes. The soup was a purée and literally could be poured over noodles. The service was very lackluster. This is my first time visiting this restaurant and I am not from Houston Texas. The people there all acted like I should know what to do I was actually given advice on how to get my food from a patron and not an employee. When I asked the servers for a to go box they looked at me as I shouldn’t have said anything to them. The whole experience was very odd and uncomfortable. I don’t think I’ll be back. The tomato soup at Panera Bread is far better and Panera Bread is not a French bakery, but the baguette is better and the service is much better.

Decant food but a bit over priced for what it is. There are many other places to eat that have better tasting food for the price. I.e.:egg and I

I really enjoy la Madeleine but this location was not enjoyable.
— Dirty tables everywhere
— The service (from employees from behind the cart line and manager) was not like the other many locations I’ve been to.
— ordered a cappuccino, requesting it in a to go cup; got a latte in a regular cup. I nicely returned it and told them this was a latte and not a cappuccino but she insisted it wasn’t a latte. And still gave me a latte. I should have just gotten it at Starbucks.

This is a great location. I’ve had breakfast, lunch and dinner here and the service has always been great. The food is good and I can always get a latte. Also their 7 grain bread is something that I will go out of my way for!

Great place for some good fresh food and small group. My favorite items are the chicken cesar sandwich, chicken salad sandwich and tomato basil soup. So glad my kids enjoy the food too. Love coming here to have a nice quick bite instead of any fast food greasy food.

Sometimes it can get super busy with a line, but nonetheless it moves pretty quick to order at the counter. I love La Madeline & it’s always a delicious and quick lunch meal to have
Me and my boyfriend come all the time. I always get the duet chicken parisien. It’s so good. I get mines with a cup of soup topped with bacon and cheese. And a side of strawberries
Their desserts are fresh and delicious. The cheesecake is a really good choice, and so are the cute littl parfaits in a cup.
Overall nice location, good service, and good food. Always find myself coming back.

Location is in the midst of the Sugar Land town center. Should be relatively easy to locate. However, it is located in a collection of restaurants that are clustered together and it may be confusing at first where to enter that parking lot area.
There is adequate amounts of parking around the restaurant. If you can’t find one, there should be some in front of the bigger clothing stores that are in walking distance to the restaurants.
The interior is clean and well-​decorated. There are a variety of tables that can seat 2 – 8 people. There isn’t much of a waiting area. Upon entering the establishment, you will see a place to order. Right before that is the «bakery/​dessert» area where they show-​case their delicious fare (Fruit tarts and parfaits are particularly good!)
Service is friendly and helpful. Apart from the ordering, everything else is self-​serve. If you order anything that is takes time to cook, they’ll give you a number and bring it out to you once you find a seat on your own.
The food is pretty good. I would recommend their breakfast foods! Lunch isn’t bad, but breakfast is the bomb.
The atmosphere would be a perfect place to study (not during meal-​times), except they don’t have Wifi. However, if you want to just spend some time with friends or a nice book and some dessert/​coffee, this is the place!
Bonus: There is some complementary cut bread by all the drinks with jam and butter, don’t forget to grab some!

Friend and I mainly frequent this place for their dessert/​baked goods, and we highly recommend the fruit tarts, croissants with chocolate, and croissants with almond & chocolate. Definitely the best chocolate croissants I have had.

From walking in the door to ordering I would have to give this place a 1 star. The female workers were gossiping, we were just in the line waiting for someone and just looking at them. One was pulling on the other girls long braided ponytail. Finally they giggled.. turnt around, asked us what can I get for you? Right when we said our order midway she cut us off and said. one sec I need to get something. wouldn’t it been better if you would of got what you needed before asking for our order and cutting us off?!
Finally came back and asked for his order, then we moved to the salad section, and then she just let the line behind us build up. nearly 5 minutes pass and I had to tell her we are still ordering why did you jump to the 4^th person behind me? Did you think we were just standing in front of the salad section to look? She said ** excuse me? So I repeated myself and said we weren’t done ordering ma’am. Among all this, finally sat down with our food, there were little gnats flying and landing on our dessert.
I don’t want to give this place a bad rating but after sitting there and eating and seeing other customers standing there waiting on the line with there arms crossed and some even saying ** excuse me… I guess today was just a bad day to be here.
On another note, please fix the soap dispenser in the ladies bathroom. The toilet is also filthy with black and gray rings around the toilet bowl. The bathroom sink also had gray dirt scum spots. Kind of dissapointing since this isn’t any typical fast food place.
I’ve always loved your food, I frequent here and other locations quite often. But this location today was a bad idea.

La Madeleine is VERY popular, so don’t be surprised if there’s a line and you have to struggle to find a table. The food is decent. Some of my family’s favorites include the breakfast croissant sandwich, the yogurt parfait, and the chicken friand.
The fruit tart is delicious. Didn’t like the chocolate sacher torte very much — it was kind of blah (which is shocking! because how can you mess up a chocolate cake?)
Before you throw your receipt away, check the bottom — sometimes they have offers where you fill out an online survey and get a free pastry in return — you can redeem this the day of your visit.

Terrible servicio en la noche, entre por un par de cafés algunos panes y estaban tres empleados y estuve parado por algunos minutos y ninguno me atendió, como si ni hubiera entrado nadie

Muy rico café, lleno de cosas ricas pata elegir, patelería exquisita, excelente ambiente, muy buena atención, super recomendable para una tarde lluviosa y fría como hoy!
Reencuentro de primos al calor de hogar!
