I have a new favorite here… grilled chicken! It’s juicy, flavorful, and plentiful. The supper serving comes with 2 small chicken breasts and 2 sides. If you’re looking for the healthiest dish on the menu, this is probably it. Paired with corn on the cob and a baked potato(sans butter), you’re good to go for a healthy option at a place where most things are fried, fatty, or smoked. The service here is still the best. The place was completely full but we had our food in less than 15 minutes!

Just went here today while visiting the area. We ordered the Super Combo, it was great. Best BBQ I’ve ever had. My boyfriend got the super combo with turkey, brisket and sausage. I got mine with ham, turkey and brisket. Absolutely amazing. Great service. Will definitely be back next time we visit!

Since moving back to Texas I’ve been looking for a good BBQ place and I’ve found it at Big Smiths! I ordered brisket tacos and my husband ordered chicken fried chicken — the portions were huge and the brisket tacos amazing! Friendly and fast service too!

Met some family in the SS area here for lunch today. Had the catfish basket and it was really good. The décor is antique like and the waitstaff are super nice. I look forward to coming back when I am in town. It’s so great to see SS have a good place to go for some really good food. Prices are reasonable from about 5.95 and up. And whoever said on here that it’s a chore to find this place needs to learn how to drive straight for three miles from the walmart and look to your right. :)

Big Smiths has the best chopped beef on The Planet. The location has changed in the last year or two, but it is well worth finding. The wait staff is always great. I dine there often and it has never disappointed! The french fries are special. My favorite is the chopped beef sandwich with spicy sausage. We love this place ! V Wilson

This is CLASSIC Texas roadside Barbecue! Whenever I have friends in from New York, Philadelphia, or Los Angeles I take them here. The food is decent and reasonably priced. There’s lots of parking. I wouldn’t want to eat here every day or every couple of months because it’s Extremely heavy food but on a special occasion it’s great! It’s definitely Texas country! People are friendly – Service is good

This is real good barbeque. Small place looks like someones house from the outside but the food is perfect. They have an all you can eat rib night. Not sure what night. This is Texas so I recommend the brisket.

Wow, Big Smith’s Bar-B-Q is the real deal. Very authentic and lots of smoke flavor. I normally opt for the chopped beef sandwich and an order of their onion rings. The onion rings are Texas style and Texas sized and are the best in Hopkins County. The food is great and the building is just an old shed, but has lots of character. Big Smith’s is def worth the drive.

Eats: Peanuts: on table and dump them on the ground when finished Onion Ring Appetizer: plenty of ‘em. Not gourmet style, but Texas style with plenty of crispy bits and flavor SuperCombo Plate: ordered Beef Ribs, Hot Links, and Brisket. Brisket had 5 pieces, two of them the best brisket I had ever had, great bark, moist, and flavorful. I believe these were different than the other since they were more than likely cut immediately and not prior to serving. Beef ribs are huge, good smoke ring, juicy, wish they had a more predominant rub. Hot links were very spicy, which i love, flavor was great, only issue I had is the texture(ground) resembled bologne. Atmosphere: red table cloths, tin signs, stuffed animals, perfectly Texas. I always visit when I go dear hunting in Nelta, TX

First off– the Unilocal GPS locator for this sends you to the wrong location, so finding this place is a chore. Second, there is nothing remarkable about the exterior if you do find it, in fact you might be discouraged from entering. Inside is quaint and the feel that the folks that come here have been doing it for years. I had the brisket and hot sausage plate. The brisket was a bit dry and, yet again, no where near as good as Franklin Street. The hot sausage was fair but nothing special. This is a fair local haunt but nit worth making the trek to otherwise.

I loved it! This place is oozing authenticity(and grease!). It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but you’re not here for the architecture! The pork ribs were among the best I’ve ever had. The BBQ sauce was good… not overpowering, not too sweet, not too spicy. Get an order of the tater twisters to share(feeds a large group!) — they were really good. We were there on a Wednesday night and they have fried quail. I had a bite and it was pretty good… I’d pick the ribs over the quail, but it was tasty. The batter was very unique. I’m ready to go back and try beef ribs and a brisket sandwich next time! The only thing I could ding them on was the toast served with the ribs. I’m thinking it was smeared with grease or lard instead of butter. But honestly, I don’t go to a place like this to fill up on bread!

The best onion rings ever! Really good chicken fried steak. Best BBQ in the area. Great big barrels of peanuts to snack no and you throw the shells on the floor. Interesting dead animal décor. Nice folks that run the place.

One of the more delightful BBQ joints in the area! Quite rustic with in-the-country quaintness all around. A converted old dairy barn serves as the main dining area where wall mounts and hundreds of empty Tabasco bottles line the walls. This is a true BBQ joint, nothing fancy, in the finest sense of the term! Family owned and operated, it has remained the same fun place to go on a Friday or Sat. night with a group of friends. They actually have a menu here, but we never need one. It is always the ALL-You –Can-Eat beef ribs for us! These are huge and very tasty! You never leave without having at least as many as you can handle! They are not shy about bringing more to your seat when you’re ready! The BBQ sauce is some of my very favorite. Pour it on a rib, add a bit of Tabasco, and mmm… pure heaven for the BBQ beef lover! Also try a tall pile of onion rings for an apetizer! Group sized! Or, the tater twisters are wonderful as well. Beans and slaw are very good sides here. Word of warning… don’t fill up on the peanuts before your food arrives!!! And, if you have room for the pie, you just didn’t try hard enough with those ribs! Some of the most fun interactive waitresses anywhere! For beef ribs… and lots of ‘em, this is as good as it gets!
