When I think of a gym I think of a place where I’m going to put in work. I’m looking for functionality and ease of access — I’m not looking for excessive pampering, guest service and all of that other nonsense. That’s why I love and swear by JB Fitness. It feels just like your old high school basement weight room. You know which one I’m talking about — the one where you could find the wrestlers and football players at after school let out. The place that all the kids who didn’t care for gym class in high school cringed as they entered. J.B’s is mostly a self-service gym. Although the owner Joey does offer personal training sessions and can be found there a few hours out of the week, JB Fitness is a bare bones do it yourself facility. You can buy water, but there are no snack and beverage bars. There are no silly new age classes designed to get you motivated and keep you coming back. Your motivation at J.B. is knowing that you have the power and facilities necessary to accomplish your goals. I’m very satisfied with the amount of equipment available in comparison to the cost of membership, which is significantly lower than most fancy gyms with high overhead costs. The gym is always clean, the members are friendly and the amenities are satisfactory. Free weights, elliptical, tread mills, presses, and all of the standard equipment you’d expect to find are all present and accounted for. Locker rooms and a sauna are also available. Throw in a couple of TV’s and a stereo system and you’ve got all the makings of a place where champions are born.
