Talk about a family friendly pizza joint. The Crushed Tomato is a step in to the past. Old fashioned checkered tablecloths line the tables and vintage signs hang on the brick walls of this once formidable cotton mill. The smell of the wood brick oven envelopes you as soon as you walk in to the building. Jessie, who was my server was spectacular. She took care of everything, even asking me if I was new and needed to know anything about the area. Now that is customer service. The food was wonderful. I had the garlic pieces and a pizza. Both were excellent. The crust on the pizza was awesome and you can tell there is a lot of pride that goes in to making it. I finished with strawberry cheesecake ice cream that is made in house and it was AWESOME! Besides the fact the curb appeal needs some work and perhaps a slight upgrade to the table cloths this place is a gem and I will frequent this place and refer it to everyone I can.

This is quaint little gem. Located in a former machine shop to a long gone cotton mill, The Crushed Tomato is an unexpected pleasure in the old mill town of Summerville, GA. The staff are attentive and pleasant, the décor is nostalgic, but not over the top, and the patrons are friendly and willing to talk about the good olé’ days, baseball, or their favorite place to shop for the finer things in life, whatever that may be to them. This is a pizzeria, make no mistake. Great crust, sauce, meats, and cheeses made in a brick oven visible from the dining area, at least if you are 5′ 1″. I would encourage to order heavy on the sauce. The garlic knot appetizer is a must, served in a styrofoam cereal bowl, which only endears you to the southern charms that envelopes you in this historic space. A ‘must do’ place for pizza lovers, history buffs, and those with the gift of gab, especially for the glories of Northwest Georgia and bygone World Series.

Gave them another chance, the folks there are incredibly nice and you get good service — I just wish that the food was a bit better considering the price. The chicken sandwich was bland and the spaghetti and meatballs my husband got was soupy with water.
