we have used Mrs Higashi for most of our plants in our yard. if you are looking for fancy that is not here, but she is very knowledgeable. They are very upfront and will work with yiou and your needs. BESTPLACE I have ever been to.

First, the map directions directly linked Unilocal are so wrong. It leads you to some random place off a highway. Manually enter into google maps or your gps so you don’t get majorly loss. Leading me to my second point, SMALL sign. If you’re on the right street, you see this nursery at the corner of the street– that’s not it. Keep driving a little further and you will see it. Most important point, BESTPLACE for so many different types of Japanese Maples. Forget Home Depot, Lowes, MacLendon, every other random nursery out there in the WA state if you’re looking for the highest quality Japanese Maple. I promise you, just cut to the chase, cut the driving around and looking for a maple, go straight to the source. This nursery is run by a husband and wife team. Every single one of their maples looks healthy, with fresh, vibrant leaves, and the prices are definitely comparable to all the places I listed above. Surely, they’ll be a little more expensive than a $ 40 one at Home Depot, but quality and health of a plant is very important. We bought ours, a Dragon variety, $ 85 but for the size(roughly medium sized), it’s quite a steal in my humble opinion. They have at least 12 different types and even bonsai maples(priced at 25+). A somewhat«larger» bonsai runs $ 100. That’s an absolute steal. The wife will spend time tons of time with you, showing you every maple you want to see, she’ll tell you how to plant them(with bark NOT miracle grow), give you a pruning lesson(which you only do in the spring time), and will tell you if the plant you’re getting will be too large for the space you plan on planting them in. We drove 45 mins to get to this place– got lost for 30 per Unilocal direction links– but 100000%, worth the drive, worth the experience, and they are open: Monday-Saturday 8−5pm. Honk 3 times for help as the sign says. I bought a dragon today along with a bonsai and am going back on Saturday to get coral wood and something of the green variety. They even gave me humungous cucumbers, zucchini, and tomatoes– for free– straight from their garden. Nice, caring, wonderful couple. You will definitely go home with the japanese maple that’s perfect for you. I’ve attached pictures that do them no justice… but I hope you can see the lushness of all their maples!

Higashi Nursery specializes in Japanese Maples, Rhododendrons, and Azeleas. These are not the cheap every day varieties that you will find at Home Depot or Lowes. These are high quality plants that are grown from cuttings or grafted right here on site by Mr and Mrs Higashi. That being said, the prices are also higher than you find at said stores. The Higashi’s are mostly wholesale but, also sell to retail customers. They are open to the public Tues — Saturday from 10am — 4pm. If you have ever bought a Japanese Maple at Maclendon’s, odds are pretty good you might have a Higashi Nursery Maple. Come down to Sumner and check them out and post your own reviews.
