Orphaned CDs

Found an amazing record here and the guy said, «Oh. That’s a collector. I’m not going to sell that actually. I’m going to frame it and sell it for more.» He wouldn’t even tell me the price. Don’t shop here! I found one of the only good things they have and they wouldn’t sell it. You spend so much time looking for something good and if it’s too good, they don’t sell it. They also have all the good stuff in the back and put all the crap vinyls out.

Store is Ok. Hard to find things quickly, since CDs aren’t in alpha order, just grouped by letter. Prices are a little higher than other used places and selection is mediocre. They have DVDs as well.

Came in here randomly last week, they have some cool stuff but i could not for the life of me find anything i wanted, mainly because of how unorganized the CD’s were lol. I am a fan of indie/​alternative rock stuff and they have some good artists, (Muse, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stoneage, etc.) Just wish they had things more organized. I wanted to look for Silversun Pickups and they either didn’t have them or i could just not find them. But i’ll definitely come back if i’m in the neighborhood.

I always passed by this store on Reseda, so I thought it was finally time to take a look inside. It was 3:00 in the middle of summer and the doors were locked (both the front and back). So yesterday I decided to give it another chance.
Upon entering, I got the same vibe someone gets when they enter a library. I didn’t know what music was in what section because they removed all the signs. I looked at the hip hop section first. The selection was disappointing. It consisted of early to mid 2000s artist that were not popular back then and still not popular now. I decided to check the rock section and was even more disappointed. Probably will never come back here.

While the selection is good the girls that run the store. always close it up to one hour early by locking the doors at 4 to 430 pm and shutting off the lights and acting as if no one is there when I am knocking on the windows and I can see that they can see me. Very unprofessional and childish conduct. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone.

This is the best rating I can give it. It’s a very crammed store. The cd section is all over the place and very disorganized, nothing is in order. I asked to see the Reggae section, guess what? There was one Reggae cd mixed with electronic music, classical etc! Why put Genre labels on the shelves when in reality you have everything mixed up? This store has potential, it just needs better organizing. I will give it one more try next week, before I start work in the Afternoon…

Didn’t meet my expectations. I always mean to go in and half the time I have tried it has been closed. Not a ton of stuff and the good stuff seems to all be I. The back where you cannot even look, like it might only be sold on line? It always smells kinda weird inside and the lighting gave me a head ache…

I stopped by this morning and the store was closed. It’s still filled with merchandise so maybe they will reopen

This place is great it I’m speaking from the movies stand point I brought in 6 movies I didn’t want anymore expecting to get .50 for them a piece and when I got there the person at the desk just said take 6 DVDs u want and leave those that’s a great deal! Would def recommend! And going back soon with more!

I went to this store in hopes of purchasing some Dvds, as I walked in I noticed there was a separate aisle with Blu-​rays and Dvds. I had asked the owner if I can take a look, the owner rudely said «no» with no explanation as to why no one could go there. Once he left, I asked one of the other associates as to why that aisle was separated only to find out that what they have in that aisle is to sell online. Well done, not only did they lose my business, but alienated a good portion of potential buyers in-​store. If the owner wasn’t busy being an absolute creep to his employees (giving himself a good sexual harassment suit in the near future) then maybe he would have the common sense to keep his online items elsewhere and not get upset when customers are asking to make some purchases.

The owner of this establishment is a full on pig. He has no respect for women and we’ll make dirty, filthy, rude comments indirectly about women. Although from the looks of it he only hires females which says a lot about his character as being a sexist perverted pig. He clears objectifies woman and if you are a woman working there be sure to keep your mouth shut as he stands over you watching you work, if he makes you feel uncomfortable be sure not to say anything unless your prepared to lose your job. On another note if your there to sell CDs, movies, or vinyls your better off selling them on amazon yourself. Orphaned CDs will rip you off.

Saw reviews and didn’t go to this place as I chose to go to another record store. This place was awesome. I regret over looking this place. I went to CSUN and I constantly saw it on my way to other places in the area, but this place has the goods. They do their best to alphabetize and put records in spaces where its easy to access. I was able to get many gems. 3 records for 10 dollars is a great deal as well. I went twice in one week to pick up the ones I skipped out on. Big selection, but you have to dig to find the goods, the staff was very friendly as well. Definitely going back.

There are several record shops I occasionally visit throughout LA, however this one still remains my top choice. The main reason being is the price. They not only have a great deal on records (3x$ 10), but as well on other types of music and movies.
Considering that records stores are gaining a sort of popularity, several stores have raised prices and some are even ridiculous. Purchasing a couple items at Amoeba can add up very quickly to almost $ 60-​$ 80. Yet these places, unlike Orphaned CD’s, have their items in practically pristine condition.
Finding items is difficult and as stated in previous reviews, this place is disorganized and dusty. All of their vinyls are kept in the original cover they came in which is tattered at times. For those concerned, they tell you to notify them if you find anything wrong with your purchase. I don’t mind spending hours here though it certainly isn’t something pleasurable for everyone. Regardless of this, this store is still one of my top recommendations. The deal here is unbeatable and it applies to every vinyl. I’ve found several that would’ve cost more than twice the price I bought them for at other stores. Especially considering that they buy from local sellers that are selling their original collections. Definitely a place that one should stop by and invest time in.

I have no idea why I have not reviewed this shop because we used to come here when I lived in Northridge.
Recently my husband and I have been collecting vinyl fir a while now and we went crazy and bought about 10 records there today on our day off.
Nat King Cole, Willy Nelson, Aretha, Lionel Hampton and more. (³⁄₁₀ dollars or 3.99 each.
I liked that I used to buy the movies in here too. Staff is nice and they have a parking lot. You can get all kinds of genres in vinyl. Go for it!

You can sell or buy used and or new DVD’s to this store. $ 10.00 buys you 3 used DVD’s. Not bad and their good movies. First come first serve. A big selection on a lot of movies and CD’s and even Records.
Gary the store looks a lot better now. Keep it clean.

I came on a day where they were practically giving away the store. So keep in mind, my experience is on a once a year event. This was 6 DVDs for $ 10. If you can do better on the ‘net, then I applaud you and the truck that the items fell from.
That said, the place is a brick and mortar garage sale of hard to find items and vinyl. I love me some vinyl. but was seriously blinded by the DVDs. I bought some real shitty titles. And unfortunately, that is all they have there. Incidentally, they probably should not re-​sell screener copies of items. Not sure if industry people travel that far north (perhaps for back alley crack), but it could be an issue. Especially if Gary Busey has a bender and a hard-​on for analog tune-​skis.
Whatever. I dig this place. I think it’s worth the trip for hard to find vinyl. Or if you miss the good ol’ days of flipping thru albums. Then you should browse away here.
Yes, Amoeba trumps them in: title/​selection, location, smells, customer service. But what Orphaned have is that they are still standing. And standing proud. Let me correct that and say, standing proud with a water fountain inside the store (way dope!).
I say, as far as the Valley is concerned (listen up you CSUN hipsters), this place is a great find.
just a note to the store: I ask a lot of stupid questions, but I feel my stupidest question of testing a DVD to see if it works, isn’t THAT stupid. I feel they should probably get one, so you feel more confident of your purchases. Again, for the price I was paying, I’m not going to sweat whether I can make out a pre-​Stamos Rebecca Romijn boob in a Brian DePalma schlock flick.

This is my second time coming into this place. I love to support independent businesses, especially music shops, however I wish this would have been a more pleasant visit.
When you first walk in, you notice that they pack their space with vinyl, dvds, cds, and whatever else you can imagine, including a turtle pond. I was in there for probably 25 minutes and not one person asked if I needed help. The employees were just sitting behind the counter laughing and doing nothing. This place is pretty messy, and dirty, I wish they would be cleaning or organizing, rather than wasting the employers money. They do have fair deals and fair prices, but my music preference is Hip Hop, which they have a very limited amount of. After finding no success through their CD selection for Hip Hop, I then asked the owner of the store if there were any Hip Hop vinyl, to which he responded «O yes, we have a ton, just ask the guys behind the counter!». I proceed to go to the help counter where the employees are chatting away, and none of them greet me. I ask them where their Hip Hop records are and then one man responded «We don’t carry Hip Hop records». And that was it! There was no sorry, or empathetic response, just a jerky response with no care. By the way, as I was leaving I saw a couple Hip Hop titles, but did not care to waste my time any longer in that place.
If you are looking for other genres such as country, rock, jazz, etc. then you should visit, otherwise avoid this place! Also, be prepared to deal with a staff that is not familiar with where their music is. You will have to look for it all on your own!

I use to buy CDs there and now I’ve moved on to vinyl. There is no order there. There are some shelves with labeled genres but not always accurate. You are buying used music and movies. I find it funny people complain about disorder of used music shops and yet want a $ 1 bin. If you want a bargain, look for the hole in the wall shop and start digging for music! If you want order and cleanliness, go to Amoeba in Hollywood but expect to pay more.
I like the no nonsense pricing there. My kid likes the turtle pond. I’ve returned skipping CDs without any issues.
Here’s a tip, if you can’t find something just ask because they may have cataloged it behind the counter.
I’m glad this place exists and will continue to support them!

What can you get with ten dollars and zero expectations? At Orphaned CDs, quite a bit more than you’d generally hope for.
Here, $ 10 translates into
* Three CDs or DVDs
* One or two CD or DVD box sets
* Ten one dollar DVDs or CDs
* Twenty or more VHS tapes
* If you shop like me, two DVD copies of Homie Spumoni and Lloyd Price’s greatest hits on CD
The selection is limited by the floorspace and variety of trade-​ins but, between the aisles of stacks and packed shelves, there are enough outliers to keep the search interesting. Better still, their trade-​in system means that new-​used films and albums are added regularly.
And, best yet, there is a big turtle tank in the middle of the store. Amoeba this isn’t, but never has Amoeba had a big turtle tank.

My first impression was, «When you look at the outside of this little hidden gem, you know you’ve at least gotta check it out.»
I was visiting Joyce’s Coffee Shop (
) for breakfast and stumbled across Orphaned CD’s which was right next door. I walk in and this place already catches my attention because there are oldies playing in the background. There is a Hawaiian/​Tropical theme going on, and you see stacks, boxes, and bookshelves of CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records.
If you dig going through piles and piles of oldies that are re-​priced for your budget, this place is very impressive. Not quite the Ameoba Music (
) but still, a local place to hit up. It’s cool place to find that something or two you’ve been looking for. The owner of the store is very friendly, also a local, and has a great sense of humor. Used music and movies at a do-​able price, and I’m satisfied!
The lasting impression? «Hidden gem of it’s own, I love having to dig to find something good.»
(+) My Tip: You can go on their website (they have computers at the store too) to go through their selections before you buy. If you prefer doing the search quicker electronically, you can do that on the site. I personally prefer doing the hands on search!
