I am very fond of biriyanis… I tried different biriyanis in different places… theirs are different in taste and texture… good food and good people too…

After the very underrated Thai Origin( ) closed its doors, I was hopeful something great would be in it’s place. BBQ Hut’s insertion into the world of Greenpoint Ave meant the hood had another Pakistani /Indian option, which is a wonderful thing. After several extremely disappointing experiences, I hate to say this one might be a bust. One thing is for sure, they’re more delivery oriented than they are a destination restaurant. Most of the time, the place seems empty — devoid completely of customers and sometimes staff. I’ve come in here and have had to walk out for the simple fact no one was around. Literally.(Always call ahead of time) So the service isn’t up to stuff, how is the food? In short, it’s hard to eat. In fact, as a supreme fan of all cuisines from this region, it pains me to say I couldn’t stomach much of anything I order. I have deliberately tried a variety of items to see where their strong points are, but I’ve yet to find anything I deem worthy of broadcasting to the masses. In case anyone is wondering the things i’ve sampled, I might as well list them here: goat biriyani, chicken tikka masala, palak chicken, karahi chicken, all the seekh kebabs, chana masala, eggplant potato, bhindi fry, beef vindaloo, both the fish and potato cutlets, and an assortment of their samosas and pakoras. Again, nothing stood out and was terribly mediocre. I’m hopeful their chef has some new tricks up his sleeve because BBQ Hut might literally be the least appealing of any indo-pak option in Sunnyside. Their delivery is a whole ‘nother story, but it can be summed up as a «long wait.» Fingers crossed we don’t have to wait long before they improve.

We ordered 2 mains(chicken karahi and Behari kebab) with naan. Being a Pakistani– Indian couple, we expected this to be really delicious. Chicken was dark, tasteless meat but curry was ok. Behari was definitely not Behari kebab as I know it. More like seekh kebab and made as if someone took 2 packets of shaan masala and dumped them on meat. Naan was doughy and wet. Really disappointed. Wanted so badly to love this place :(

After waiting 1 hour and 20 minutes for delivery i called and was informed that my order was canceled. They did not have the courtesy to call me when they received the order. I will never order from this place again.

After seeing the menu, and always in search for good Indian food… I thought YES! What a selection… Then I convinced my wife to go… First problem, the owner is a castoff from another restuarant down the street. Ok, I respect ambition, but this guy has his head up his ass sad to say… Before my wife arrived, I introduced myself, shook hands, wished him well then ordered 3 appetizers. THREE! My wife arrived, and about twenty minutes too long, he brought out one dish… We literally waited 45 minutes for the other two. Meanwhile, he’s babbling on the phone coming in and out of the kitchen. My wife noticed his delivery boy tasting food in the kitchen he was about to deliver… More waiting. Finally I asked him where’s the other two appetizers…“I was waiting for you to order” was his response. I blew a gasket! I cursed him out so bad I felt guilty… but not for long. Avoid this place at all costs unless you’re stuck without transportation and you’re ordering out… The man is obviously a dumb rookie. Why not ask us «Are you ready to order?» No water ws given either! He just let us sit… I hate this ^%&#! Don’t go! The Curry House down the street is better and more reasonable… Also, delivery men should not be in the kitchen touching food!!! It’s sad because we really try to support places around here… Also NEVER eat at a place named BBQHUT or any other HUT! NOSTARS!

Decent Indian food and decent prices… I got samosas, garlic naan, chicken korma, and a kabab. The samosas were good, as was the kabab, which reminded of the ones at Pakastani Tea House, made from minced beef and spicy. The naan was a little too thin, outside of the crust it was basically a cracker, so it was kinda useless in sopping up the sauce in the korma which was pretty watery. It wasn’t like any korma I’d ever had, it wasn’t as creamy as korma usually is. That said, it was good. I’d order from them again, curious to try more of the BBQ items…

Ordered takeout from them and it was great. I was early so the order was ready in 5 minutes. The goat karahi taste great and the prices are very reasonable. Will definitely order from them again!

There are long waits to get simple food. There isn’t a reason to wait 40 min for a tea and samosa chaat! I understand it is only a week old, but come on. The 4 stars is bc the food is really good. The chaat was authentic desi food. Flavorful, full bodied, and just right in terms of spice. Tea was also really good. Guys if you want to get a 5 please hire a wait staff.

This review is for the two dishes we tried for take out the other night. The food was quite tasty, the meat was tender and flavorful. The curry was authentic tasting and we are looking forward to try other dishes from here. That being said the restaurant’s interior gets zero star from me, I cant see anyone wanting to dine here in its current state, its not inviting at all. Perhaps the owner wants it to be a take out only place, but seems to be a waste of good real estate, and food is definitely good enough to be a nice neighborhood restaurant.
