I came here before and since I liked one of their stylists, I have decided to make this salon my regular haircut place. However, the management at this place doesn’t take appointments seriously and has no respect for their customer’s time. I had an appointment at 11:15am with one of their stylists. However at about 11:10am they called me saying that the stylist is running late, and to come at 11:30am. Since I was already in front of the salon, I have decided to wait. However, about 10 min after, the salon manager said they can’t make it at 11:30 am either and that I will have to wait until at least 12 pm. I reminded her that I had an appointment, but she said — ‘Well I tried to squeeze you in, but we are very busy because of this and that…’(she went on and on about someone’s hair). I told her that someone’s hair is none of my concern and the reason why I made the appointment was so I don’t have to wait almost 1 hour to get a haircut. She responded with ‘Well, we all make appointments.‘ Wow. That’s when I got up and left. I definitely won’t be coming back due to their poor customer service.

I’ve been a customer here for 2 years. My hairstylist is Nadia and she’s amazing because she pays attention to my needs. Give her scissors and brush, she turns me into a hair model. Give me spoon and folk and you’ll never see your meal again! Anyway, the location of this salon is in a busy area of Sunnyside. Location matters in selecting your Spa or salon. When the salon is on a busy street, it’s easier to find and easier to introduce to the neighborhood. They have a great location. Their salon is also very inviting, the setup and design is modern and contemporary. I try to do something different each time I’m here, not that I perm or anything like that but the way my hair is styled can change. Nadia has prepared my hair with different styles: bangs, layers, straight, curls, and treatments. My profile photo here is one of my hair bangs that Nadia styled for me. She gave good tips about the shampoo and conditioner because I have allergies. I also buy some of the products they carry at the salon and they’re great. I think I’m lucky to have given Nadia on my first day here because she’s an experienced hairstylist. I tried mani-pedi from this salon, just to try but I thought the amount of time spent on mani-pedi was way too long than other places. So I decided not to make another appointment for that here unless I have lots of extra time. The price is what you pay for the location too. As I said, the salon is in a busy area. It’s true KMIA salon is in Queens but some parts of Queens are more expensive than Manhattan in case many people are not aware what gentrification does to a neighborhood. The demand is there!

Saori is the best! I went to this salon to change my hair color went from blonde to red and I fell in love. Everyone is super friendly and treat you with special care. The salon is extremely well kept with very cute modern chic décor, and they play great music. The environment is relaxing and the girls are very professional.

Dear KMIA Salon, I am 27 years old. I know I kinda look younger and maybe that is why you quoted me 130 $ to do half and inch of root grow out. And yes, I know you said that«Your hair is too dark, the stylist will have to re-aply the bleach twice»…But here is the thing… I am a European Caucasian with Brown hair. I don’t even need to use a 30 developer… I’ve done this more than once.(Thats irony btw I’ve done this MANY times over the course of 7 years that I have been dying my hair platinum Blonde). And then you were like… then another 55 $ to apply toner… Yo seriously? Then another 35 $ for blowout. Like…c’ommon. Be normal. Don’t try to rip people off cause it drives people away. I am not a cheap person, but I feel offended when businesses try to sell me lies. I was given the exact same pricing in a much bigger salon in Manhattan where I work, and I understand the rent there is higher blah blah blah. LOOKAROUNDYOU, YOUARELOCATEDINQUEENS. I literally walked across the street got my roots done for 55 $. Cause they looked at my hair, saw that it was literally HALF an inch and I was out the door in an hour. Thats how easy it was to apply bleach, once, on my roots wait for 40 minutes and boom. Ready. And I decided to write this because when I was in the salon I asked you many times«Are you sure that is the right price?» Oh yeah dear Unilocalers. On the Bright Side, I have to give it to you. You are a clean salon with a very nice design and probably a lot of potential, given the good reviews.

I’m giving this salon two stars because I saw the staff trying, however I do not recommend. The prices are high, as if we’re in Manhattan and a famous stylist is doing your hair. Not only that, I made an appointment and even though I was on time, I had to wait for the stylist to arrive. If I’m going to pay $ 400 for a balayage then I want at least my appointment to be respected. BTW, when they told me to go sit at the last station, I had to clean it myself, they has towels and magazines all over the chair.

First discovered this spot because it’s an eNeighbr host & I went in to pick up a package — but it looked super cute, so I decided to come back for a cut & color… and glad I did! Saori did a fantastic job. Will definitely be coming back.

This is the WOOOORST experience I’ve ever had with a hair dresser. I’ve never seen somebody with that much attitude before. I wanted highlights and she adds toner for $ 45 without even telling me. I felt like I was in the way and I was trying to please her, not the other way around. She highlighted my hair and did not even bother to finish blow drying it. She asked me if I wanted a blow and I said I could not afford it, but you don’t let your customer out the door with completely wet hair… !!! I did not even know she was done. At least let me out the door with dry hair, so I ask her can I borrow your blow drier? The worst part is I paid almost $ 300 for nothing, I’ve could bought my own color at the CVS store and made my friend do it. She kept on pushing me with a cut almost 5 times when I specifically told her ONLY highlights. Do not be fooled by their«cute place». It is overpriced, not good products and save yourself for bad attitude. I even had to ask for a mirror to see my highlights in the back…

I have tried a bazillion hair salons and I must say this is by far my favorite. Everything about this salon is amazing. The staff is super nice and attentive. They never make you feel like your just another client. They take the time out to give you the look you are looking for. Saori is my stylist and she’s amazing. She’s cut, trimmed and blow dried my hair several times. My friends always compliment me when I get my hair done at Kmia. Most recently I went in for bangs and I came out in love. Saori did an outstanding job and I have gotten compliments nonstop. This will forever be my go to Salon.

This is the best hair salon so far that i have been into Sunnyside… Saori is the best hair stylist I ever met and a super kind person. I have been getting my hair done by Saori for almost 6 months now. She really knows what she’s doing when it comes to haircut… it can be pricey for Sunnyside residents but if you want to have a nice haircut, 30 $ is really reasonable price for 60 minutes scissor cut…((btw i am talking about men’s hair))

I love this salon. It opened around the same time that I moved into the neighborhood. And I am so happy! I love supporting local businesses and love not having to go into the city to get my hair cut(as well as pay Manhattan prices). At first, I would get my nails done, and they were always excellent. Let me just say that Sandra really knows how to shape a stiletto nail. The pointer the better! I now go for regular bang trims and cuts with Saori. She is super nice and pays attention to what I want and asks me along the way. I just had my hair cut quite a few inches into a bob and I could not be happier! And her blowout is one of the best I’ve had. They also give you a birthday discount which is sweet. The receptionist is also always super sweet and welcoming. Overall, a great neighborhood salon!

Disappointing is an understatement. I was very pleased with how my hair turned out, until I was advised that my very basic wash & blow dry cost me $ 47. It was no better than the salon across the street that charges me $ 25. Prices like that should be advised in advance, but I suppose it’s my mistake for not asking. We’re still in Queens, not Manhattan. My stylist did a great job, but I’ve left feeling robbed. Such a shame.

I’m very nervous when it comes to getting a haircut, because majority of the time I never get the haircut I want. But when KMIA opened right by my house, it was so convenient that I decided to risk it and get a haircut there. Mind you, I’ve been looking for a good hairstylist for 3 years prior to that. Well, I never regretted my choice after all. Nadia is the best! In the last year and a half I got three haircuts, all of them from Nadia and she managed to give me more than I wanted. I just vaguely would tell here what I had in mind and each time she ended up blowing me away with the results. Have yet to try their mani/pedi services.

I had an appointment with Nadia. I was there in time just to be told that she runs behind a little bit. I didn’t think too much of it and waited. For 45 minutes! Maybe they could have called me and told me that they run behind to give me the option to come in later or reschedule my appointment. I booked a balayage and haircut. I told Nadia before she started and applied the color that a had dyed my hair a half a year ago so there must be some color left in my hair-ends and that my roots are uncolored. The balayage turned out the diametrically opposite! I had deep yellowish roots, a darker yellowish middle part and dark brown ends after the process. Really nothing of a sun-kissed natural look with soft, less noticeable regrowth lines. The look couldn’t even be considered«simple highlights» as the color wasn’t even equally processed on the entire length of my hair. I asked her if she sees what I see and she admitted she did. She proposed to apply more color on my hair-ends in a to lighten them up and to darken my roots in a second process but after sitting there for already THREEHOURS I couldn’t any more and asked for a single process color to just go back to my original hair color. She did it and after finally cutting my hair and a fast and simple blow dry she was finished… FOURHOURS after I walked into the salon. They charged me $ 120 for the cut and a single process color. Well I ask myself if they couldn’t have offered me the single process color for free as I don’t consider it my fault that Nadia didn’t get the job done with the balayage. I felt kinda forced to get a single process color because I couldn’t walk out of the salon with yellow roots and dark hair-ends and I didn’t want to risk another disaster and try to «repair» the balayage in a second attempt and sit there for who knows how much longer… And also no compensation for the 45 minute wait in the beginning of my appointment. I don’t know. In my opinion these are really poor business manners. I’m sad cause I liked the idea of supporting a local business in Sunnyside so much. Sadly this wasn’t a smart choice.

I went in for a wash and blow dry and I got sat with Sarahgy. She did such a fantastic job on creating beautiful waves on my hair. She is truly great at creating big hair. I received endless compliments that day and a few days after too!

I went to KMIA for the first time today and I’m very pleased. I went in for a haircut and wanted a short, new look. Based on the reviews I read here and on other sites I asked for Nadia. She was great and did not disappoint! She’s a great stylist, she listens to you and she checks in with you as the cut progresses. The salon is clean, stylish and comfortable. I was very pleased and will absolutely be going back to KMIA.

Always friendly and smiling as soon as you walk in the door. Very clean, professional and modern looking salon. I’ve been getting my haircut here for over a year now, and will continue to. They do a great haircut and are always willing to work with your schedule when making an appointment. You cannot beat the prices either. I highly recommend going here, it can’t be beat.

I went in for a cut in hopes of salvaging my hair after a bad dye job(through ) left it broken and badly damaged. It was my first time going to this salon and they happened to be close to home and have an opening for an appointment last minute. The stylist was very friendly and explained a lot about what had happened with my hair and why it was so damaged, as well as how it could be repaired. She did a great job, the atmosphere was nice and so were the people. I will definitely visit Kmia Salon again.

I’m always looking for an affordable and clean nail salon that is close to my apartment. I’ve found that with KMIA salon. I made an appointment via their website for a mani/pedi(appointments for nail services are required). The cost was $ 25. Instead of choosing my nail color from the bottles, they gave me a few different pieces of plastic that had painted artificial nails on them. This was overwhelming, only because I kept holding up the artificial nail to my own to see how it looked! The pedicure tub was relatively clean and the nail technician was kind and friendly. At one point during my manicure, I smudged it and she had no issue fixing it and was very nice about it. I’ve been to other nail salons who will give you the death stare if you accidentally mess up your manicure! My only issues with the manicure was that she didn’t use a hot towel at any point(and I did see that they had them) and she didn’t give me a chance to put my rings back on before she started putting on the polish. I also had to pay after my nails were done, which was tricky since I had to get my credit card out but the receptionist actually helped me with that :) All in all, KMIA is a relatively clean salon that feels like a spa at times. I was pleased with their staff and prices. I may return for a haircut at some point.

Can’t remember the last time I got a haircut. I have very unruly wavy hair. Got a cut by Saori. I have to say this is one of the BEST haircuts I’ve ever had. She also got it to stay straight on a very humid day.
