Body wash can only do so much. Sometimes instead of squeezing out the last drop of soap, it’s nice to be able to scrub it straight on. Monkey Barsoaps caught my eye at a recent pop up market, featuring one of the most colorful(and fragrant) l tables in the room. The soaps are pretty, all natural, homemade, and incredibly unique. Soap inventor and Monkey Barsoaps owner, John was one of the coolest dudes ever and was incredibly knowledgeable on the makeup of his own bars. Owners without a clue would just talk about how cool and interesting they are, but John was breaking down the process with fervor, explaining the ins and outs of his naturally assembled soaps. After marveling(and sniffing) various bars from beer to fruit, I knew I just had to have one. I ended up walking home with a peppermint bar, one of the most popular in his set. It smelled nice, but it was completely aromatic when wet. A little bit of vicks vapor rub and the pores were tingling like mad. I can only imagine what the justice bar is like or the eucalyptus mint. The bath bombs make for great children’s gift, with an added bonus: there is a toy inside the bar once it’s fully dissolved. The story behind the bars is a sad one. John was started making and selling these soups out of his home to help a loved one with legal trouble. And with that, the birth of MonkeyBars has culminated into something much more. With his diligence in soapmaking, combined with his initial intentions to help family out, it’s hard not to be impressed with the quality of this local product.
