Being a Sunnyvale resident for 26 years, I am ECSTATIC that a wine bar like City Place finally opened up! Right off the bat, I loved the casual feel of the place. It’s not the typical dark, quiet type of bar where you feel like you have to pretend you are a world class wine connoisseur. The space is very open and bright, and they don’t cram people in, making it a great place to meet and chat with your friends(I don’t recall them playing any loud music). They offer wine flights, wine by the glass, and small bites! Our waiter was extremely patient with my group of friends as we tried to decide which flights to order, seemed to really know his stuff. You’ll notice colored dots along the side of the wine flight menu. This is to help you remember the order of your flight, as well as what you’re actually drinking. :) Along with our flights, we decided to get a 3 cheese plate, along with a 4 meat plate. It may seem a little pricey but once you taste any of it, you’ll realize the price justifies the amazing flavors in either of the plates! My favorite meat was probably the duck and my favorite cheese would have to be the sheep. Melt in your mouth! They also offer complementary«toast points» with your cheese/meat(toasted bread). The bread alone is already really good, I can’t wait to come back and try their crostinis.

New to the neighborhood and was excited to try out City Place. Attempted to go last Saturday night. The establishment was about half full. We had to seat ourselves as no one greeted us. After 5 minutes an employee acknowledged us from behind the bar saying he would bring menus. After another 10 minutes the same employee walked by to provide menus to another table that came in after us after which he proceeded to watch the Warriors game. We decided to leave at that point. Cannot speak to food or beverage selection(we didn’t have any menus or interact with the staff in 15 minutes), but the lack of service made this an unfortunate experience for our first weekend in Sunnyvale. Had a nice conversation with the pleasant folks sitting next to us though.

Decent wine, a little on the expensive side but happy to see a place like this in Sunnyvale

I was drawn into this wine bar because of my roommate. It was an amazing experience for me. sommelier helped us in ordering wine and cheese. He took enough time to figure out if he can find the right one. Excellent crostinis. I enjoyed the food and the wine. From the next day on wards, we’re going to their brunch also for the eggs benedict, eggs florentene until they recently stopped.

I meant to write a review when I first came here a few months ago, but I think this is a great addition to the new and revitalized area in downtown Sunnyvale. The prices are what you would expect from a nice little wine bar, but the portions were really great and well-presented. There’s a good amount of space on the inside and the tables are not crowded together, so you have quite a bit of privacy for you and your date, or you and your group, or just for yourself. The service here was excellent. My friend and I got great recommendations for food and wine, and they kept checking on us throughout the night to make sure we had everything we needed. I’d love to come back again to try some of their other wine selections and dishes.

I had an Argentinian Malbec described on the menu as «Jammy Blueberries and Chocolate.» How yummy does that sound? And also some Italian Taleggio cheese served with fig jam, candied walnuts, dried apricots, and crisp, warm toast points that was to die for. But best of all was the classy, soothing atmosphere and the friendliness of the owner, who was obviously knowledgeable and passionate about wine. In short, I just loved this place and look forward to my next visit.

Service was simply amazing. Theron could not have been a more welcoming host. Open cheeses were fantastic, selection was exquisite. Amazing that this is in Sunnyvale.

I am a big fan of white wine and I am still looking for my favorite local wine bar. City Place Wine Bar is at a very convenient location, plenty of shopping, dinning places. There is a huge parking lot right next to it and plenty of street parking available. However, it could be difficult to find parking if you are coming during evening. I went to Vino Vino in San Jose before and I don’t like it. I think City Place Wine Bar is much better. The gentleman works here is very knowledgeable. I told him what I feel like for the night and he gave very good recommendations. You can feel he knows what he is talking about and he has passion on wine. He even taught me some knowledge about wine :) The reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because of the price… They carry my favorite 2013 Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay and they sale it for $ 72 per bottle and $ 18 per glass. It’s about $ 40 online. So I ordered Bliss chardonnay instead which is pretty amazing as well($ 12).

Delicious wine and food! We’re in big trouble now that we live above this great wine bar. Going back soon to try out happy hour(with $ 1 oysters) and then again for what looks to be a very tasty brunch.

Hands down the best eggs florentine I’ve had in South Bay. Came with some extra salsa and pico de gallo too. Hollandaise sauce was fabulous. Mimosa was delicious and strong too. I’ll definitely be adding this to my regular brunch spots list.

I could eat this every day of my life, complete sensory satisfaction! I had three different crostinis, each amazing in their own way: House cured salmon gravlax, coriander espellette crème fraîche, pickled onion Local heirloom tomatoes, burrata, pesto, balsamic glaze & sea salt Soppresatta, local Big Rock Blue from Paso Robles, honey And you can order a flight of wine to go along with it! I recommend the Austro-Hungarian flight!

First off, let me be clear, I am NOT a wine aficionado. I know what I like and I know what I don’t like. Don’t ask me about the body, tannin or if I can taste the orange… I don’t know what you’re talking about. What I can tell you is I thoroughly enjoyed the food, the wine and the people at City Place. They take their time trying to figure out what you like and see if they can find that«right» one for you. All too often I find people in Unilocal that make it their mission to bag on restaurants that are just trying to please their customers. Come to City Place for great food, wonderful wine and even better people.

I loved this place so much I decided to have my thirty-something year bday party here yesterday. It’s a new wine bar– which I’m always a fan of visiting… New building. Modern décor in a quaint little space. Best selection of wines in downtown Sunnyvale, if you ask me… Delicious food… I’ve been here for brunch and dinner/drinks. Casual but sophisticated atmosphere. Wonderful, friendly, extremely knowledgable staff. Everyone we have met here has been awesome. Highly recommend this place if you like wine with a nice ambiance. Their wine menu changes every now and then. They have flights if you want to taste more than one wine. We usually pair the wines with cheese, oysters, paninis, crostinis, and charcuterie… Everything’s reasonably priced– not cheap, but not expensive. We’ll definitely be frequent customers and some of them know us by name which shows what down to earth and personable people they have working here. I’ve enjoyed every visit so far!!! Tell them I sent you!!!

This is one of those places that wants to be sure that every item provided is perfect. So much so that they have a focused food menu just for quality control. Some places have good dinners but not good wine. Some place have good breakfasts but mediocre coffee. The places that have good coffee have bad food. Well, you wont find the most expansive menu here, but then you can be sure every item on the list is excellent. Well chosen and very well executed. Thats just rare. I have been here multiple times and I have spoke to the manager, the owner and the sommeliers. The people here are friendly and helpful. I am not a wine expert, but the sommeliers have helped me greatly with the wine and cheese pairings. They really try to learn the palette of the customer with a few samples and make a good recommendations. The wines are curated from across the world and come with a well thought out spread to cater a variety of palettes. Some wines are pretty rare. I’ve had a 2003 Burgundy here for a pretty good price. Another french Pinot Noir was absolutely beautiful. Come in for a evening of wine/cheese or come in after dinner. I’ll gladly recommend this place.

We like this place and come pretty often. They have good wine prices and very good food. The pizzas are especially nice and the cheese plate has a lot on it for the money. Great atmosphere — except… The only downside for me, and all of our friends that go there regularly, is the acoustics inside are awful. If it’s over half full inside, the sound is extremely loud and annoying. Lively is great, but they really need to deal with the acoustics in the room. You are barely able to talk to your friends across the table without yelling. It’s a wood room with nothing to help the acoustics on the walls or ceiling. We sit outside when weather permits. I suggest the owner should invest in some sound deadening panels to help the people be able to communicate with each other easier. I say this as a guy who is used to loud events. Just hate having to talk loudly all evening and strain to hear my friends when you want to relax and have drink and conversation with your buddies.

Amazing service, very knowledgeable and quality. Such a gem in Sunnyvale. Had the perfect wine selected to pair with the awesome cheese and charcuterie. Feel like a night out or just a reliable local place to have great conversation over wine(and the bread is amazing – perfect texture)…then this is the place. Real quality and character! I have a go-to place now. Awesome and thank you! Just came in for their first brunch… excellent and perfection. I am an eggs benedict snob and the poached egg cooked to perfection with brilliant textures and sauces – amazing complimentary homemade homefries, sauces and salsa. Great portions and artistry presentation. This new local gem won’t be a secret for long… shhhhh! Top it off with a mimosa, Bellini or bacon cooked to perfect crunch. Feel guilty sharing but it’s big city flare with Sunnyvale charm… love it!

Was here the other night. City Place serves an astonishing variety of unique wines and beers. My personal favorite is their Hopless Beer, great flavor and an unique non-bitter taste. I also tried their all-organic Lager, one of the best lagers I’ve ever tried. They also serve some low-price rare wines from all over the world, including South America. Accompanied with some delicious appetizers, I enjoyed a great time. Also, the atmosphere is great, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.

Came here for the first time tonight and had an amazing experience. We went to vino vino right before and decided to pop over here afterwards. Vino vino is fun but they have a staff that does not have wine expertise. At city place, they really know their wine. They have an exceptional selection of wine that comes from all over the world. LOVED their rose. You have to try it. This is definitely stealing the spot for my favorite place to grab a drink with friends. Cheese + wine is always a winning combo. :) Highly recommend. They also have an awesome happy hour that I will have to come back for!

Sunnyvale has been lacking in a serious place to enjoy wine for a long time. City Place wine bar is the perfect answer to that and it gets things right. Their Sommelier Theron doesn’t come off as pretentious and he’s as nice as he is knowledgable. Let him know what you like to drink and he’ll graciously pin point a sample he thinks you’ll love or just pick something that sounds like it’s up your alley. Hungry? Their selection of bites is amazing and has a good range without being overwhelming(I’m looking at you $ 1HH Oysters!) The pick 3 cheese plate($ 15) comes with some of the largest servings I’ve ever seen for that kinda thing(2oz/cheese) and fresh crostini to boot. Compared to other Sunnyvale wine bars, they take things up a notch. Wine is served in beautiful glassware, food is plentiful, and the staff is friendly and oh so knowledgeable. Downtown SV was desperately in need of City Place and we didn’t even know it.

Stopped by here on Tues night during their soft opening, and was able to enjoy wine and cheese with a buddy. The goat and cow cheese actually paired nicely with my sparkling wine. The sparkling wine and red wine selection offered some more enjoyable selections, than other wine bars in Sunnyvale. The ambiance is a little more neutral than other options in downtown Sunnyvale, but their grand opening will be in a few weeks. 4 stars for the current options in the area, though price per glass is a bit pricey. Tip — 15% off for corked bottles from their menu
