Great job done by Karl and his crew. I had a new heater and A/​C unit installed in my house. Karl told me about the option of relocating my heater into my attic, which would give us a new closet, and heating the house would be that much quieter!!! I was very excited about this idea. We moved forward and things are wonderful. I am very happy with my new A/​C unit. We have already needed to use it. Have not used the heater yet, but I am sure that will be great, as well. I recommend Convec Tek.

Simply the best. Karl and his crew installed a new heater and A/​C at my house yesterday. They came on a Friday and removed the old heater and installed the new heater and A/​C. The install was beautifully done. They were very positive, pleasant, efficient and very patient — since I had a million questions. Karl worked with me on every detail and is extremely knowledgeable. Everything was left very neat and clean. The three technicians worked 6 hours straight without a break. I am so grateful that everything went very smooth. I will never go anywhere else for heating or A/​C. I received excellent customer service… I truly believe they care about the customer and take pride in their work. Highly recommend. Don’t call anyone else.

WHAT A RIP OFF. BAD COMMUNICATION. DISHONEST BUSINESS PRACTICE.
I called Convectek and talked with Joe a day or so before Thanksgiving. Our furnace was out and the weather not getting any warmer. I was told cost was $ 89 to diagnose the issue then parts and labor after that. The $ 89 was credited in the event we chose to have more work done. Sounded OK at the time.
I’m kind of a do it yourself kind of guy so I took some measurements at the transformer and saw the 24V output at around 8V. So I replaced it. No luck. I ventured a guess at the control board. Replaced it. No luck.
I booked an appt with Convectek. Two Latino gentlemen arrived on time — good start. They worked on the area of the furnace control board. After about 10 minutes, the lead asked if some parts were replaced. I said they were yesterday. He went on to tell me the entire board had to be rewired. I asked him where? He said the whole thing. I asked him to show me. He gestured around the control board. Does it sound like the old tune, Take me to the Cleaners? It felt that way about now… So I told him how much would it cost to rewire? He told me $ 280. I told him, if he rewires it and it doesn’t fix it, he owes me $ 280 and told him to go ahead.
They determined it was the transformer and asked me if I had the old one. Nope — out with recycling. So they left to get a new transformer.
I called Joe and told him I did not want the guy back, he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Joe ended up talking me into letting the tech return. I regret that…
We waited another 2 hours for him to return. No transformer with him. He proceeded to continue with the repair and spend maybe another 30 minutes. He told me at one point it wasn’t the transformer. Really?
In the end, we were charged $ 280 for a wire nut! The technician gave us some mumbo jumbo about parts and labor. The receipt noted, $ 280 for parts and labor. No parts… And Convectek must charge $ 280/​hour.
We will probably put a hold on the payment and ask for a detailed account of the transaction. I would not recommend this outfit. Their mode of operation seems intent to gouge rather than strike up a fair deal.

Karl and his team at Convectek installed a new Trane central A/​C and furnace in our home in Los Altos. From start to finish, Karl and his team were knowledgeable, professional and reliable in both their product knowledge and installation of our equipment. Karl in particular is not your typical HVAC or general contractor. He has a polished and thoughtful approach to working with clients like me who have lots of questions and appreciate lots of data in a purchase decision like ours. He was very transparent and never pushy or hard selling. Even after our equipment was installed, he took the time to follow up and ensure that we were comfortable in our home given the heat wave that gripped the Bay Are this summer.
I would highly recommend Karl and Convectek for any work around HVAC systems. We had a great experience with him and would use him again.
