BLUF: BEER! TLDR: what a lovely place, I said to myself as I walked through the door. It was late and the weather outside had turned foul, the room inside seeming cozy against the weather. The light in the room was low which only deepened the feeling of enchantment. and the few customers remained at the bar, though food service had long stopped. They conversed among them selves in a low whispers each with tree own story. I took a seat at the bar, a solitary candle before me casting a soft glow that seemed to dance off the the collectable stiens on the shelf behind. The whole bar are glowed, a warm friendly feeling sank me in to a place of calm. An older woman stood behind the bar, she tended to customers with all the precision of a well oiled machine and it wasn’t long before she asked me what I would like. I informed her I would like a half liter of the martzen, which was delivered in a short span of time and with the perfect amount of head on top. My attention turned to the other customers, a man talking with another patron about his time in Bavaria, two men conversing about automobiles. Slowly my attention wavered as my friends began to arrive one by one. I ordered another half liter, as the mood turned jovial. The weather worsened but the mood did not, especially as I began my liter of Wies. I chatted with the older lady behind the bar, she seemed like the kind of lady everyone wanted as their grandmother. Allass the hour grew late, and my partner and I had to depart for the night. I called a lyft, paid, and said my good byes. I said to my partner as our lyft arived, «what a lovely place».

If you want fast service because you’re in a hurry, this place is not for you. If you want to take the time and have an experience then come here! The food, the atmosphere and the service is all an experience. I wanted to take home the Omi with me! She’s adorable!

I like this place a lot. A little on the pricey side, but the atmosphere is pretty fun, with a nice little bar to grab some beers at. Also nice to come here and practice German ;)

It is unfortunate that a place with decent food can have such appalling service. We had to wait over 10 mins at the door without anybody coming to the front to even greet us, let alone get seated. After sitting down we had to wait another 15 mins before they came to get our order. When the drinks arrived, the beer was over flowing with foam and pretty much got the entire table wet. After that the waitress spilled my wife’s wine when trying to put a plate down on the table, and she didn’t even offer to refill her glass. Food arrived a while later and it was pretty good, but we had to wait another 15 mins before somebody came to collect the plates and bring the check. And of course, at no point throughout dinner were we offered any water. Over all, extremely poor service. Will not visit again and would never recommend it to anybody.

We did not have reservations and we were still politely seated. The restaurant was full and there are only two adorable old ladies serving patrons so we were patient with the slower than normal service. All our orders were amazingly delicious and authentic. The menu has many options even vegetarian. We tried the sauerbraten, absolutely perfect. Lots of variety. And best of all, all three deserts were great. The chocolate cake tastes just like my grandmothers. The décor reminded of my German grandmothers house, I loved it. And the place was really clean. We will definitely be back. Great date spot.

Slow service, but excellent food. We had sampler sausage, lamb chops and veal schnitzel. They also serve very tasty lentil soup before meal. Be patient, you are in for a treat.

I love this food! Just like when I was in Germany. It is a cozy little place with the sweetest little german ladies serving classic german dishes. You may have a little wait if it gets busy, but it is most defintly worth it.

Was told the food was great and a great place for a group of us to go to. Had reservations for 15 – 20 people but in all honestly maybe 30 showed up. The extras were sat outside and as some were trickling in the lady said they could not accommodate anymore people because our reservation was above 20 and the rest would have to leave. They went down the street and the rest of us were told our orders were cancelled and we would have to leave as well. Service was slow. It’s only one old lady and her husband but the place wasn’t packed so yeah. I’ll never go back but it wouldn’t be bad to try in a small group on a non busy night.

This was such a cute and quaint little place. Food seemed pretty authentic — according to my Dad(I’ve never been to Germany)! The two little old ladies running the joint are super slow but definitely worth the wait. The food was really good. I had the sauerbraten and it was Divine. The potato pancakes were yummy. The sausage platter for an appetizer was pretty good as well. They had a great selection of German beers. However this was a family dinner so we steered clear. I’ll be going back — just clear my calendar for the evening! ;)

This place is so much fun. They have great food, good beers, and they really care about their customers having a good time and a good meal. The women that work in this place do not move fast, they are a bit aged but they give the best service they can. They want you to enjoy your food and have good drinks and they move as fast as they can and do as much as they can possibly do. Go here to relax and have a good time, not for a quick bite. The food is good, the sausages and sauerkraut are really good, the soup is good and I had the lamb once that was really yummy. It’s a cool little place and a fun experience.

We came back to this restaurant after a wonderful dining experience on our last visit about six years ago. Upon entering at 5 pm we found the appearance and barkeep had not changed which led us to believe we were in for a treat. We were the only two in the restaurant aside from one man at the bar. We sat at the bar and was greeted by the barkeep and older woman who served us last time. We ordered drinks and began looking at the menu. We waited for about 10 minutes to order once we were ready because the woman was engaged in idle chit chat with the man. Finally she took our order and before she put it into the kitchen talked again with the man for a long time period! Again with the idle chit chat before putting our order in! She finally went to the kitchen and put in our order. She returned about five minutes later with some delicious cabbage soup for us and went back to speaking with the man. We finish and patiently waited as we needed drink refills but, again, she was conversing. This is a rinse and repeat story which I am sure you can guess it involving her preferring to converse with the man over serving us or the new customers that arrived. The food was excellent but the serve horrible.

Food is very good. The only reason I gave a 4 and not 5 is because the place is run by a few old ladies and its a bit slow(but also very adorable at the same time). I went with my office teammates and we wanted to get out of there soon after eating, but it took them a while to get back my credit card. if I had gone here for dinner, time might not have been an issue and I would have given it 5 stars.

While walking around downtown we stumbled upon Hardy’s Bavaria, all this time living within walking distance and never noticed. I’m not sure how to feel about this place. Food is good but not great. There’s an authentic German feel to the restaurant but the place has not been updated since it opened and it’s supper cluttered. Service is a bit slow but the serves are extremely friendly. Oh and there’s the cutest German-Grandma looking ladies as waitresses. Don’t come with expectations of an upscale restaurant, more of a family style 50s diner, with great beer and some cool food options. As some others pointed out the meat plates are great. They have it nailed down but other than that I can’t think of anything memorable. We tend to stick to what we know, Beer, oven baked brie with some bread for appetizer & pork chops and/or Schnitzel as out main entrée. A few times the beer has been stale, a few other times the breed had gone bad. So you see it’s a hit or miss, would love some consistency.

I’ve noticed a few bad reviews here based on service. I just want to say, that you should never go to a german restaurant and expect speedy service, thats just not how it works and if you don’t get that, then maybe you should go somewhere else. So lets get down to the food. The food here is spot on. It tastes like a home cooked german meal. It doesn’t get much better than that. The woman running the place are charming and attentive. Take a few hours out of your day, relax and enjoy this special dining experience.

Hardy’s Bavaria is a cozy restaurant I never realized existed despite constantly being on Murphy Avenue. The food here averages at about $ 20 for the menu entrée items. Service is great. Slow-paced, but understandable. The place is about the experience, the ambiance, and the great German food. As another reviewer put it, «if you are in a hurry to eat and run, this isn’t the place for you.» Meat eaters will enjoy this restaurant, which features a pretty extensive menu of various meat-based dishes. To note, there are some vegetarian dishes, but a meat lover will definitely find this place very enjoyable. This is a great restaurant for date-night. The restaurant is very quaint, and the area is gorgeous. Parking is easy, as Hardy’s has an adjacent lot open to patrons of the plaza.

I thought food and beer was excellent. Very cozy restaurant and nice, relaxed, course-by-course service. That kind of thing is how I prefer to eat; I could see where some may not be into it. The food is not inexpensive, but I wouldn’t call it overpriced at all given the size of the portions and the fact that almost everything comes with its soup, salad, and delicious dessert. Definitely a place I love to return to, especially for a special little occasion.

Came here after Oktoberfest with some friends who wanted German food. Their food seems pretty authentic according to my German friend though I can’t judge for myself. The entrees come with some creamy soup and a salad. The entrée itself is generously portioned(I tried the weiner schnitzel and sausage sampler) and tasted pretty good. The sausage sampler was not that hot which kind of seemed off to me… my friend said it tasted like it was microwaved. The beer is good though! The service is pretty slow but I’m not sure if that’s just because we had a bigger party.
