I just wanted to add that the one bad review this place got was for a totally different stylist than Mark. Ask for the owner, Mark, he’s amazing!

Mark is the best! I’ve been getting my extensions done with him for about 3 years now. His prices are very reasonable. So glad I found him!

I am very fortunate to have met Mark. I met Mark by accident. Before i met Mark, I had a woman who rents a chair from Mark at this salon, but primarily runs her business out of Castro Valley, doing my hair extensions. At first, my extensions looked beautiful. But in less than 2 months, I found myself dealing with a hair nightmare, which i was not expecting at all. I had spent almost 3K in less than 2 months for her to do extensions including the hair. The extensions itched like crazy, they hurt my scalp and i developed a serious rash. I was miserable. When I raised my concerns to her, she responded with, «Well, you must be doing something wrong, and what do you expect me to do?». When she was vacationing in Hawaii, I was desperate to get help, so she told me to see Mark. It was at this time that I noticed the difference in the service and his compassion towards the problems I was having. The difference was like night and day. I saw the woman in Castro Valley one more time (to justify the upfront expense) and had even more serious problems with my scalp. I told her about it, and again, she blamed me for the problems. I finally emailed her and told her I was no longer going to be needing her services and made an appointment with Mark. He took my extensions down, my hair was completely damaged and dreaded. I was in a panic, I wanted to break down and cry. I could not believe i spent 3K and my hair was ruined. But Mark assured me that he would fix it somehow and over 2 days he made sure he would bring my hair back to life. I was so happy, I could cry. I have my next appointment with him soon. It’s been a month, and I haven’t had one single issue, and my hair doesn’t itch anymore and my scalp is healthy again. I am completely grateful to Mark, without him, I would have probably been looking at shaving my hair at some point. Thank you.

I love my extensions! Mark did a great job! I had researched other places to do extensions and they are expensive and only care about getting a credit card over the phone before you even meet for a consultation. I met with Mark and he helped me match the color at the hair shop next door. People cannot even tell that I have extensions. They feel light and i can wear my hair up or down and it looks great! It didn’t even take long to put them in. My hair will not get damaged from putting them in and I will be able to grow my own hair out while they are in. He is very reasonably priced for and excellent job! I would reccomened Mark to anyone looking to get extensions!

Mark is amazing! I damaged my own hair by bleaching it myself, it was short and awful! I was about to get married and was desperate, I found Shear Magic and Mark. My extensions looked amazing for my wedding and lasted a long time without damaging my hair! I work over seas and returned home for thanksgiving and had Mark do them again! He fit me in even though it was a day before thanksgiving! I will keep returning to Mark for my extensions every time I am home!

If your are looking for a TRUE EXPERT look no further. Mark the owner of Shear Magic is a remarkable hair extension specialist. Plus he’s fully licensed and provides excellent cut and color to complete the overall look.
I was very lucky to find Mark. I had my original hair extensions done by a competitor that charged me three times as much as Mark and the hair is the same. The process he uses is a no-​glue application that provides the most natural look with no damage to your hair, and the lock’s he uses with his own method DO NOT FALL OUT. When he does the lock touch-​ups he take the time to take them out and comb through the hair.
Shear Magic has been in business for at least 20+ years and is very comfortable with easy parking. Most of all Mark is extremely reliable and will always find a way to get you into his schedule.
I wanted to write this recommendation to anyone looking for hair extensions. Do your homework, visit Mark for a consultation and only go to a fully board licensed cosmetologist. Enjoy!

Mark, the owner is great! As another reviewer mentioned, some customers have been going here for decades. It’s got a small town shop feel to it. He is also VERY reasonably priced. I don’t know anything about hair extension work. But for the usual hair cuts, coloring, etc, he does a nice job.

Please avoid this place for hair extensions if you are a cancer patient. The stylist we dealt with was very nice but obviously in way over her head (despite conferring with her colleagues who did nothing to warn her or us, that this procedure was obviously inappropriate). We paid $ 1,800 for less than two hours of work, plus very nice human hair. By day two, the tape started to slip off badly and the hair felt uncomfortable. It turns out that the tape is really just glue. Not sure how new hair is meant to grow under the glue.
Cancer hits you hard in the wallet (and harder in the heart). There are more ethical and cheaper places that can help you.

Outstanding customer service and amazing affordable prices! I’m so glad I found this place because I had been looking for a place to get my hair extensions for my wedding for a very long time and finally found it. This salon is not the snobby type so you will feel comfortable every time. Shear Magic provides every type of service from gorgeous hair color to amazing extensions. I recommend Mark because he really listens to what’s important with your hair — looking natural, easy to fix, being edgy, etc. He goes the extra mile to make you feel comfortable at the salon and happy with your final product. I’ve walked out each and every time feeling 100% satisfied with my hair — and I’m VERY particular. THANK YOU MARK!!!

This place is a real gem where you get excellent service and personalized service. Most of the customers have been going there for decades. The owner, Mark, is a real gem. He has been doing my extensions for many years and is extremely knowledgeable as well as detailed and personable. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere else because he does such a good job that no one even realizes I have extensions. He is reasonably priced too. In this case the service is much more important than the décor.
