Unethical billing practices. They are charging us a $ 772 bill for services they are completely unable to substantiate. An «out-​of-​network» nurse purportedly rendered «neonatal care» to our healthy child following a normal delivery, and they can’t explain why the bill is so high. Their customer service rep simply tried to explain to me that a neonatal nurse generally «checks the heartbeat.» Yes, I’m aware, but that does not cost nearly $ 800…
The hospital was surprised the cost was so high, as was our doctor, but Sheridan is still unwilling to work with us, or tell us how they can justify the charge. This, of course, is after they waited 5 months to tender the claim to our insurance (which, after a «successful» appeal, still maintains that the proper cost for services rendered should be about $ 50). The customer service agents have been rude and uneducated concerning their line of business. What can be done when a company charges whatever it feels like and is not accountable to anyone to justify the cost? I just hope they’re happy — the amount they say we have to pay is almost exactly the amount we saved up for our baby’s first Christmas. So Merry Christmas, little one. Sheridan Healthcare is acting the Grinch.

As a breast cancer patient I underwent two revision surgeries at Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, FL. My plastic surgeon assured me that insurance covers all costs, as per the 1998 Women’s Health and Cancer Right Act.
Several months later I began receiving calls and letters from National Recovery Service, a collection agency, claiming I owe Sheridan $ 4,220. This was after Sheridan collected $ 3,783 from my insurance company Emblem Health.
Last month I underwent laparoscopic surgery for removal of my gall bladder at Aventura Hospital. I was billed $ 916 from my surgeon, which Emblem Health covered in full. Last week I received a statement from Sheriden, showing a bill of $ 2,743 for anesthesia service. That is THREE TIMES the amount of the surgeon’s bill.
I never requested Sheridan’s services, and elect to choose doctors in-​network. Never was I informed that Sheridan is out-​of-​network, or told I would be billed for their services, over and above what Emblem Health allows. The nurse anesthetist at Aventura Hospital introduced herself, as if she were part of the hospital’s nursing staff. Had I known anesthesia services were performed by an outside, out-​of-​network contractor I never would have agreed to use them.

Horrendous! How is this company not being sued or investigated for INSURANCE FRAUD?! The bad thing is you can’t choose them, your hospital does!
I have to echo the stories of the others before me. Within 90-​days of a hospital stay, I got a call this morning from a collecting agency saying my bill of $ 54.58 was sent to collections for not being paid and has been placed on my credit report. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?! My insurance, which covers me 100% has not even processed the claim yet because these ding dongs didn’t send it to them even though the hospital had my insurance information. Why is this even allowed? Not for long you crooked thieves. There will be hell to pay if this actually winds up on my credit report. Besides that, the lady was SSSOOOO NASTY. I pay my bills on time, and it really disturbs me to have to be berated by trailer trash Patty the telephon gangster at 930AM in the morning over $ 60 that I don’t even owe. Ugh!
UPDATE: I just called the collections agency back and spoke to another representative who was more kind than trailer trash Patty (not her real name, just what her attitude and voice reflected). Her ext 4207, Jacqueline Felder. Anyway, Jacqueline basically told me that trailer trash Patty is a liar and it’s not on my credit report, but that was just a warning that it will be, they have a grace period blah blah blah blah ha. No Ms Felder, that’s not what meth head Patty told me, she said verbatim and very nasty-​like «Well, it’s on your credit report». Anyway, so basically, this scam company Sheridan treats you like a gambler, they operate like an underground gambling house, and almost immediately send your information (debt) to National Debt Recovery Service (the Suge Knight of debt collectors) so they can collect a debt you probably don’t really owe (like me). And THEN if you don’t pay up within their grace period, however many days that is, despite your insurance not being processed, despite the fact that Sheridan shouldn’t have ever sent them your information, you either pay or they put it on your credit report for 7 years. Monsters.

The billing department here is an absolute ripoff. I saw Dr. Ely Brand, who I had no issue with; he is a wonderful doctor. However, I wish I could say the same thing about the people who handle the billing. At one point, they tried to charge me $ 1, 800 when my insurance was paying in full. I ended up paying $ 500 and arranged a payment plan for the rest. When my insurance informed me that Dr. Brand’s office had incorrectly collected from me, it took them about 3 months to return the money rightfully owed to me.
Then, eights months after a service they sent me a phantom bill. I paid in full without using insurance on the date in question and received a discount. They sent a bill eight months later saying that I owe them the amount discounted. Let’s get this straight — I have it in writing that I was receiving a discount, then they tried to collect the amount they discounted nearly a year later. To make matters worse, no one could give me an answer as to why this was happening. Avoid Sheridan Healthcorp and affiliates at all costs.

Horrible horrible service, terrible/​rude and abusive doctors, and even worse Gestapo billing department.
AVOID THESE JOKERS AS MUCH AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!
I’m serious. You WILL regret it if you let these people touch your children, and then you’ll regret it even more when you have to start dealing with their insane billing department.
Unfortunately for me, I had no choice in letting their awful doctor/​nurses come in contact with my kid and perform services because they were subbing in at my in-​network hospital for when my in-​network doctors weren’t available.
My wife had an emergency C-​section done, and once my kid went into the NICU, it was pretty much out of my hands who touched him, but I was there daily and I saw at least 2 nurses abuse my newborn, and one of their nurses dropped a bottle of water on my kid’s head right in front of me. I complained and requested that the Sheridan nurses not be allowed to touch my kid, but they couldn’t always guarantee that since the hospital itself was short-​staffed. The doctor (Franklin) was a complete jerk and incompetent at best, and he actually refused to do things we asked and argued with us. Without getting into the details; after a 30 day near-​nightmare we finally got our kid out of the hospital.
NOTE: The hospital itself had always been good, and all of the in network people were always great. These substitute doctors and nurses though, from Sheradon are malpractice suits just waiting to happen. There’s a reason why Sheradon has a BBB rating of F.
And then 8 month later, these incompetents finally sent their billing statements, and they didn’t even bill it correctly, sent it to the wrong insurance company, and sent my bill off to some low-​rent debt collection agency BEFORE THE DUE DATE ON THE BILL! The short version of the billing nightmare is that they were unhelpful, won’t let you speak to management, rude, and not only did they send my account over to collections almost a week early, they refused to accept my payments on a payment plan (even though it says right on their bill that they offer payment plans). They expected me to pay over $ 20,000 within 60 days! Seriously.
I’ve spent the last month arguing with these idiots in billing, and finally I just called Blue Cross and asked them to talk to the Sheradon billing department; turns out everything their billing was doing was pretty much illegal: refusing payment, not working out a payment plan, and insisting on me sending checks instead of using credit, etc.
AGAIN, I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH… DO WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO DO IN YOUR POWER TO AVOID THESE GUYS.
