Very good food! I’ve been to the place twice, and both times were great. The food is delicious, the drinks are strong, and the waitstaff rocks. It’s more pricey than I would eat regularly though. And while the seafood offerings are absolutely delicious, I really wish there were more. I would also love it if they were opened for lunch. And if they delivered, I would probably support the place myself. If you haven’t been, it’s worth every penny!

Went back yesterday. Food was very good. Nice mahi. Good flounder, moist. Only complaint I have and reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that they charge $ 2.29 for ice tea and only allow one refill. I think that’s penny-pinching for a place where we’re going to spend $ 40 + on food.

Best food we’ve ever had. Went back two nights in a row, we loved the food so much. And had the best service ever with Nikki!!!

Called ahead for a reservation, but could only leave message. QM never checked message or called back. Went to restaurant and was told an hour plus wait. Staff clueless. What a huge disappointment. Might be worth trying, menu looks good and the place was cute. Just come with a lot of time(and patience).

I was skeptical of this place from the outside but once inside, very impressed. The wait staff was nice & the service was faster than I expected for what I ordered. I had shrimp & crab au gratin & it was amazing. My date ordered the coconut shrimp meal & it was impressive also. We will be back.

This place was recommended by the locals. Great choice. Wings were good and coconut shrimp was good.

Great place to dine while visiting Topsail Island. The food is wonderful — so many great seafood dishes. We usually get the coconut shrimp and the buffalo shrimp. My son had the Catch of the Day(Cajun blackened) and it was really good. Great kids meals. They do have non-seafood meals that are delicious as well. Service is always friendly. It does get crowded, so get there when they open at 5pm.

Extremely disappointed! Got my order wrong and the whole thing was so over priced. Ordered seafood platter with 4 options, it was $ 20 and just came with slaw and hush puppies… didn’t even come with taters. Not even one french fry. The food tasted okay. I thought it was a bit over cooked. Got my kids the kids shrimp, they were happy with it and it was a good price. I thought after reading the other posts that this place would be great… not anything to get excited over in my opinion.

QuarterMaster’s is underwhelming. The atmosphere is that of a pub? The servers are seasonal help and aren’t very knowledgable. My friend ordered a White Russian and the server came back asking what kind of wine that was. I asked if they had fresh oysters and the poor girl had no idea what I was talking about. I ordered Mahi and it was the blandest fish I ever had. Complete waste of $ 21! The asparagus that came on the side was the size of a pencil and was equally as taste-less. My husband ordered the prime rib and LOVED it. QuarterMaster’s must specialize in steaks, and you have a mind blowing 2 to choose from on the menu. At one point I walked up to the bar to ask them to change the tv to the horse race because American Pharoah was about to win the Triple Crown! I explained that it would be done in 3 minutes. The tv was never changed… good thing it was only 3 minutes. I’d suggest any other restaurant in Topsail/Surf City.

Always excellent food and service! They have the best Crab Dip and Zucchini Sticks. We’ve came every year for the last 4 years.

Great meal and great service. Everything was top notch. The fried seafood platter was lightly breaded so u could enjoy the seafood. Stuffed flounder was fantastic. The blackened fish sandwich rocked! Our server was very nice and helpful. Prices were very reasonable also. The browni sundae was average, besides that, a big thumbs up!

I have been here multiple times in the past with my family and had a wonderful dining experience. They accommodated a party of 10+ with ease. We would always save Quartermaster’s as our finer dining experience, until the last night of our stay because it was so good. This year I went with my husband as my birthday dinner. How could we go wrong knowing it was a consistently great restaurant? Sadly, not this time. First of all we arrived around 7 on a Friday night expecting to wait, but there were several empty tables which should have been our first red flag. Even though business was slow, the hostess was not friendly and took way too long to seat us(I’ve worked a hostess and I know the drill). All the servers including ours seemed extremely unhappy to be there and some were wearing pajama and yoga pants. The beer we ordered took ten minutes to come, but it was cold :) We ordered the hot crab dip, since the menu noted it was a must have. It came with lots of toast, but dip with no flavor. I’m easy to please, but they managed to mess up crab and cheese. We didn’t send it back because we would rarely if ever go that route. The entrees were just as bland. I think the fish was frozen, as it had no flavor. We won’t be coming back.

Food was excellent and well priced– don’t let the«strip mall» type location through you off! Opens at 5pm– inside had a nautical feel without being too kitschy. I loved the crab dip appetizer– there was plenty to share. I had the prime rib on my servers recommendation and I was not disappointed. Good food and good service, one of our three favorite vacation dining experiences. We will return!

We came here last night based off of the Unilocal reviews and recommendations from our realtors. I would have to say my experience was just ok — the service was a bit slow, our server seemed to be kind of frazzled. I ordered the french onion soup(soup was very bland and onions were under cooked) and the stuffed flounder. The fish itself was good but it was literally drenched in butter(it was served in a dish of butter). I had to add salt and pepper to everything because it all lacked any flavor. I would have to say the best thing I had all night was the stuffed potato. I don’t think I will be back for a second try after my experience yesterday.

Food was excellent and well priced. We sat in the bar section which was a mistake, too loud for a Wednesday at 8pm. Waitress was cold and unfriendly. Probably wouldn’t eat here again bc of the staff.

UPDATE: I returned to Quartermasters after telling the rest of the family about my stellar experience. I am happy to report that everything was just as good as the first time visiting. This time around I had the shrimp and scallop Boursin over cheese stuffed ravioli, and it was every bit as good as it sounds. Huge, tender scallops paired with well seasoned shrimp in a light and cheesy sauce. The ravioli were good, but nothing outstanding. Throw this over some angel hair or perhaps a mushroom stuffed lasagna for a slight change in the«cheesy» pace and I think it would be the* dish to die for! One other new menu item stamped by the family was Skully’s Dirty Pasta. A nice medley of shrimp, chicken and angel hair pasta with a zesty cream sauce was full of flavor and really established this place as my new fave dining location in the Topsail area. Do yourself a favor and check it out! ORIGINALREVIEW: While it might not look big and flashy from the outside, this place certainly has it where it counts. A nice dining area and welcoming bar add up to a great family atmosphere. Definitely appears to be a local favorite, so why not try it if you are visiting as well! We started things off with the coconut shrimp appetizer. The shrimp were crusted with coconut and fried just right! We had about 8 – 9 big shrimp on the plate that disappeared rather quickly thanks to the spicy orange marmalade they were served with. A real treat! We shared the stuffed flounder and the shrimp and crab au gratin. Both were superb. The stuffed flounder was packed with crab meat and came in a buttery sauce, making for a nice smooth, mild flavor. It came with a twice baked potato and apsaras which complimented it nicely. On to the shrimp and crab au gratin. Let me start with it’s accompaniment: some pretty epic green beans. More often than not, you get rubbery green beans as a side. Not to be found here. These had a great consistency and were cooked with bacon, making for an excellent complimentary flavor. The main course was piping hot and cheesy with a load of crab meat and whole shrimp baked into a little casserole dish. Bubbly cheese on top held everything together and provided a nice touch to the whole package. I would have loved a few more shrimp in the whole package, but the flavor was rich and satisfying. I would love to go back and get this dish again, but will probably explore other menu options!

We definitely needed a reservation. We were sat immediately. The wait staff was fantastic. I order the Carmel Apple martini and it was delicious! All of the seafood meals were really good. The hot crab dip was a hit at our table as well. Unfortunately, the prime rib was a over cooked. They offer it as a special Thursday, Friday and Saturday because it is so popular. But my FIL did not like it. All bottles of wine are $ 13 on Thursdays so it is a good night to go!

Updadated: In a word — INCONSISTENT. Returned for a second meal after being mostly pleased with the first. All 5 of us ordered the french onion soup. While it was great at on Saturday… it is not so great today. It was extremely flavorless & had uncooked onions in it. We let the server who took our plates know and she said absolutely nothing. No sorry. .nothing. Just no response. We didn’t want anything for free…(AS I NEVERACCEPTFREEMEALS !!!) just to let them know. What a terrible customer response. She is… by the way… the server from the other night. Terrible. My dad’s coleslaw had no dressing at all(blech). I did enjoy my fish and chips. Lowered to 3 stars from 4. My server tonight was good… but the food was off… I had also originally omitted that the server from sat brought the wrong order to one of us.(never came back to even ask how it was and we kept it as to not seem rude)… didn’t bring straws, even after asking… twice… And overall was not happy. Adding that back in too! Original review: It was like a monsoon outside, so we chose the closest restaurant to where we were while driving at the time. Sometimes the storm sends you to a place you wouldn’t go otherwise. Glad this storm redirected me! First. It’s in a strip mall — which sometimes means danger. But this was not the case. We got inside & were pleasantly surprised. It’s nice inside. I really enjoyed the flavors of the food. Tasted the french onion soup(different than others that I’ve had — for sure). Had blackened flounder. Delish. Came with asparagus. That was OK, too! Oh, there was also loud, live music. It was really loud — like«the server can’t hear anything I say» loud. but it was good — so why not! So, if you are really hungry — and it’s monsooning outside… don’t pass this place up!

I have been to Quartermaster minimum of 7 times and have never been disappointed. During busy summer months it is one of the few restaurants that will take reservations. They usually have a musician playing and a nightly drink special. I have had the prime rib(which is usually only served on Saturday) and it is a nice change from the seafood. You can’t go wrong with the fresh fried flounder or the weekend .25cent chicken wings. My favorite sandwich is the fresh backfin crab piled high on a toasted ciabatta roll with melted cheese. Why order crab cakes? This sandwich is will blow your mind with all the crab and no shell accidentally left in. Trust me you will love it.
