The olive cream cheese has become my favorite food item. We take out of town guests for the bagels/cream cheese and half-moon cookies. Next up to try: The Breads!

Great bakery. Owners and staff are incredibly friendly. When we first moved to Swampscott they said welcome to the neighborhood and they even gave us a book about the area. We made it a routine every weekend to get salt bagels with amazing homemade Chive cream cheese. We just moved back to the area and can’t wait the start that routine again.

Newman’s Bakery is awesome! The food is really delicious, and the owners/staff are incredibly friendly. You can tell this is likely a family business and they put a lot of pride into their shop. We love walking up to Newman’s Bakery to grab bagels and coffee on the weekends.

I hope that Newman’s is happy that they’ve lost a loyal customer. There’s an older woman that works there that is usually very surly and rude. She always acts completely unhappy that I’m there and giving her business, but the other day was the last straw. I walked in for my breakfast, and placed my order. I then went to use my phone because I had relatives coming in for Thanksgiving and wanted an update on their whereabouts. I didn’t hear the woman ask me how I wanted my coffee, and I had already told her how I wanted it anyway. She asks me EVERYTIME to repeat how I want my coffee, so that shows how well she listens to her customers anyway. When I didn’t answer, because I was looking at my family’s flight itinerary, she shouted out«god damn phones!» I stop in at least once a week, so I’m steady business for them, but that woman is dreaming if she thinks I’ll ever support her business again after treating me that way. You lost a loyal customer lady. Great job. There’s a younger woman there that is very sweet and nice and I feel bad and it’s not her fault because she’s great, but some people ruin it for everyone else, don’t they?

this is a fantastic bakery… one of the best on the North Shore. I do think the prices are a shade high but they still get five stars. A friendly, family business.

My husband and I love this place for noodle pudding and bagel spreads. I have never experienced any rudeness and find the owners very pleasant. I read a review, on another site, by a disgruntled lady wanting lemon squares for her Ill father with no teeth. She claimed he died shortly after her visit to Newman’s without getting his lemon square without ends, because the lady would not sell them to her. We had a good laugh over that review. Hey lady, why didn’t you buy the square and cut the end off??? OMG, people can be so stupid!

I love Newman’s. I’ve been going here since I was a kid. The pastries are delicious I recommend the frozen dough or my fave the half moons. The bagels are phenomenal with fresh delicious cream cheese you cannot go wrong. The coffee is average but does the trick. Did I say I LOVENEWMAN’s? I love Newman’s.

My husband and I visited this clean and charming bakery this morning. I had the yummy onion bagel with fresh chive cream cheese and coffee. Hubby had an onion bagel and lox with coffee. Great assortment of fresh baked goods. We are visiting from San Diego and were treated extremely well by the friendly staff. This place has been around for over thirty years, they must be doing something right.

I wouldn’t go here if you want to be treated as a human being. The owner is rude, hates young people, might be racist, and will call the cops on you. My love and I ordered two eggs sandwiches. We had brought our own tea bags and I asked the man, the owner, if we could have hot water for them. He stared at me and told me «what type of place would ever do that? What place would give you hot water?». We do this everywhere that we go for breakfast meals and no one has ever had a problem. Sometimes they’ll charge you for hot water, and I don’t disagree with that. But the owner decided he had to insult me. After he made that comment, he walked away, came back in a minute later and saw me standing there. Repeated the same thing saying«Who do you people think you are?». This used to be a Jewish bakery, not sure if me being german was being brought into it. Certainly my age was, though, since he pointed out how young and stupid I apparently am. After this, we said that after going here for 5 years we would never come again, and that we would not like our egg sandwiches anymore and that we wouldn’t pay for rude service as this. He then followed us to our car and THREATENEDTOCALLTHEPOLICE for theft of service.

I have been going to Newman’s for years now. Newman’s has become a special place in my life. Every Saturday, I drive up from Cambridge for the bagels and coffee. If I don’t get there for some reason, it’s a disappointment for me to have missed the good food and hospitality of Bernard and Jess. The bagels are the best in the Boston area. The bagels and breads are fresh everyday. It’s a real local bakery, in the old time sense. I think they have been there nearly 50 years. I have to commute 100 miles each workday and I eat out most meals. So, I really welcome the opportunity to see a traditional family business, to sit down among friends, and just relax. Just sitting there, and looking out the windows on North Shore, I breathe a sigh of relief. Often, I look around and think it’s too bad I have to drive back to Cambridge! Two years ago, I had a friend visit from New Zealand. I took him to North Shore and we stopped into Newman’s. Recently, I wrote him to ask what he was doing back in New Zealand? He said that he walks around Wellington and goes to little family places like Newman’s! Well, he will be back in the area next weekend and said he would meet me at Newman’s…

Not sure how this place is still in business. I am not sure they make their pastry there, looks like they buy it at Costco in bulk. I’ve ordered coffee there a few times, it was luke warm. Cant say anything good about baked goods either.

Easily the best bagels around, Bagel World should be pretty nervous. The pastries are excellent too and the general service and environment are very friendly and inviting.

Would never step foot inside this dump again. Filthy and rude service. I was being generous with my original post, but they don’t deserve it! Haven’t been in there for more than 3yrs(review update was in my draft folder for that long!) GOTOTHECUTELITTLECAFETHREE-DOORS-DOWNINSTEAD!

Small and friendly staffed local bakery with the best«real» bagels to be found for miles. Have to get there early as they do run out. Not your run of the mill franchise bagel that some folks think are what a bagel is suppose to be. When I bring them into town folks always want to know where they are from as they are the most similiar to NY bagels as you can find.

Saturday bagel/breakfast sandwich. I was attracted to the sign on the curb blaring breakfast sandwiches. It sounded tasty. Unfortunately, their idea of a sandwich doesn’t involve meat of any kind. Is this a Jewish thing because it was a Saturday? I got a bagel toasted with butter and it was warmed up and not ‘toasty’. The bagel was OK but nothing great. Limited selection of flavors. Come on — do it right. Bagel World FTW.
