Like Anna below, I mostly care for the«authentic» poutine. La vie est courte, il faut faire ce qui est plaisant et amusant, et cela inclut, sans l’ombré d’un doute, manger le plus de poutine possible avant que de passer de vie à trépas. Vive la poutine ! Vive la poutine libre !

It’s authentic poutine… cheese curds and gravy on fries. They do some great options on such a simple dish. PERFECT if you are out on a first Friday.

Man! Those curds surely squeak. Disclaimer: Okay. It is what it is. Fries, cheese curds, and gravy is not a fancy schmancy delicacy. I have a hard time giving 5 stars to comfort food, but you have to taste it and review it for what it is. Poutine Mobile never claimed to be a black tie affair, after all. It is what it is. And it’s good! I feel like the secret’s in the sauce. The ‘poutine sauce’ is downright hearty and tasty. I had the hot chicken and surprised myself how quickly I gobbled it up. The peas added some great texture while I ‘squeaked’ on my cheese curds. And the gravy really holds the dish together. Dig in and go for it! My only gripe is that the chicken lacked flavor. Maybe this was intentional so that the gravy gets the savory home-run? Love that you can get a bit of education at the food truck, too. Flip through the ‘history’ pages and appreciate this dish of french fries goop.

A solid 3.5 stars. I’m hoping to try them again and perhaps bump them up to four stars. Brent’s review made me salivate. When it was noted that they would be at the Food Truck Park at Blue Slip Winery, it was a must-do for me. We ordered the Authentic($ 6) to share. He had never had poutine or cheese curds; I had had both before, and wanted to branch out, but was afraid he wasn’t going to pull his weight, and I’d be stuck eating the entire thing if we had ordered one of the fancier concoctions while jealously looking at the other options. It’s a very good sized portion. The ingredients are all plentiful with more than enough cheese curds. The cheese curds themselves were delicious… but not squeaky. Yes, I missed the squeak! It’s the best part! Still really good curds, but that freshness squeak is what I was looking for. And the gravy was really salty. I took two bites and I couldn’t eat any more. YMMV as my better half thought it was excellent. He wolfed it all down, but gave me all the cheese curds as he actually didn’t like them at all. I kind of wonder if the frenetic pace at the event played a role in the saltiness. It took us about 20 – 25 minutes to get the order, and there were about 12 orders ahead of us. So I’d like to try them again when the pace is less crazy. Also, there were a bunch of people going back up to the truck and asking for a second box so they could split the order. I couldn’t really understand that. You guys can’t share a box? And these weren’t the cheap pseudo-boxes they give you at sport events; these were really nice lined cardboard boxes. Poutine Mobile took a hit with those requests, but answered each with a smile and an extra box. That gets them brownie points. Maybe they need to think about keeping a cheaper box on hand if this becomes a regular occurrence because I sure wouldn’t want them to dilute their quality. And yes, they have Square!

The Poutinemobile has been haunting me for quite a while, and I stalked them long enough to know that during the winter, they’re going to take residency in the McKay’s parking lot 3 days a week(Fri-Sun 11 – 7), so today(a Friday), I’m going to indulge during my lunch break for their truly Canadian offerings. I spent some of my late childhood in Toronto. One of the Canadian delicacies that hasn’t caught on in the US is Poutine. It’s a mystery as to why it hasn’t caught on either. It’s french fries, gravy and cheese curds. What’s not to like? But because the potatoes are fried, somehow now it’s weird to put gravy on them? How is chili any better? I say there’s room for both. I was initially expecting them to have just the traditional Poutine, and I was totally ok with that, but upon further menu inspection, I was swayed by the sound of the Hot Chicken Poutine. It didn’t have much of a description, but I’ve enjoyed Nashville’s hot chicken to know what to expect… except it wasn’t Nashville’s version of hot chicken. That’s ok. I can deal. What it was, essentially was a chicken pot pie over fries. Scrumptious stuff that left me full and happy. A bed of french fries and cheese curds covered in gravy then topped with shredded chicken and snow peas, then once more, slathered in gravy. The portions are more than ample for the price, with the Hot Chicken being one of the pricier options at $ 9. Not a bad price for the size and quality you get. It was cold outside, so my buddy and I sat in the car and scarfed the Great White Northern vittles warm and comfortable. Since we were already sitting when we started eating, there wasn’t any need to unbutton your pants to eat the whole meal. Definitely a delicious meal, and enough to share if you’d like. The fact that the owners are French Canadian from Montréal tips its authentic flavor in the right direction. I’ll certainly be back to try lots of their other options! Beauty, eh?

I’ve visited the truck a few times now, and as a Canadian, I can attest that this poutine is delicious and definitely the real thing. The homemade fries are tasty, the gravy is pretty good, and they use real cheese curds which is always a tell-tale sign of quality poutine. I personally find the gourmet versions(ie. everything except«The Authentic») to be a bit excessive, and probably would be better with fewer additional ingredients. However, as long as the traditional poutine stays on the menu, I plan to keep visiting this truck as long as it keeps coming to Knoxville.
