Small portions, over priced menu. Steak and fish comes bare without sides. Will not make it.

My girlfriend and I made an 8:00 reservation on a Saturday night, for which we arrived 5 – 10 minutes early. The restaurant didn’t seem all that busy, but the bar was filled with waiting parties, who also had made reservations. We got sat at 8:40, which I wasn’t thrilled about, as we were starving. We soon realized that there were only 2 waiters working the entire dining room, which could have been the reason for the back up. Even so, service was good and our waiter was attentive. We started with oysters that were fresh and delicious, and a salad that was also very good. My girlfriend ordered the Filet Mignon, cooked rare, which came out closer to medium, and I ordered the Montauk Swordfish. Both were overcooked, but still delicious and the steak was very tender. All in all, it’s a pretty good spot; a bit over-priced and understaffed, but the food has the potential to make up for it. Don’t know if I’d return, but it’s worth a try.

Let me start off by saying I always have liked Coolfish, we go a few times a year. I still do, but our recent visit, there was something off. The food was delicious with only a couple of comments and the extensive seafood menu is a primary reason we go. Here is what was«off». We get there on time for a 7:30 reservation on a Saturday night and it was not crowded at all. No one was sitting at the bar, no one greeted us and half the tables were empty. It felt like we walked in at 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon! We sat and received a basket of delicious looking rolls. They were warm but stale. Tasted like they tried to freshen up yesterdays rolls and when we asked our waiter if they had fresh in the back he said that’s all we have. Not being satisfied with that response, I handed the bus boy our basket and asked for some fresh ones. They came out just fine so 1 strike for the waiter. Next it took the waiter a little too long for my liking to get a drink/wine order in. When he delivered my martini there were 2 identical on his tray. I asked how he knew which was mine… he mumbled something and the other was for another table. Mine did not taste like the vodka I requested. I could be wrong but I handed him strike 2. He had a bit of an arrogant attitude too. Maybe too many tables and not enough help, not sure. Time now to order. Even though we usually go for their seafood, I felt like one of their aged steaks. It was absolutely delicious but when I ordered it I told the waiter Pittsburgh/rare. Pittsburgh is charred on the outside. He did not know that term. strike 3! It was delicious, but this guy was not the best. My only other food comment is that my salad came bathing in dressing. You may say I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and wrote this review, but I did not and am being kind. We plan to go back again as usual hopefully it will be better all around.

$ 16 for 3 shrimp. 1990s décor. Completely empty on a Friday night. The service was good but the food was overly priced and the ambiance was lacking. Should change the name to Stool Fish.

Unfortunately they were out of the soft shell crab appetizer special and my halibut entrée was slightly overcooked. My friend did enjoy her skirt steak, at least. Good thing we purchased a livingsocial deal and didn’t pay full price. I used to dine hear years ago when I worked in the area and remember it being better than it was tonight.

Made a noon reservation today for brunch on Open Table after purchasing a Living Social certificate the same day. Got there for 12 and the place was closed. Waited 15 minutes and a few other patrons came and left. Called two times with no answer. Not acceptable. To be fair, had dinner at Cool Fish 2x in the last 3 months. The food was well prepared and the service was solid. The portions were fine. The pricing is a bit high but in range. Both times the restaurant was very quiet. This once proud restaurant is a shadow of it’s former self. It used to be a hot spot. Shame.

Used to be our favorite restaurant. Shaudel left, and so did the exceptional quality. TINY portions at HIGH prices. Desserts are still good, which is appreciated since you are still hungry! Surprisingly slow service on a Tuesday night.

Tuna tartar was okay but salmon was over cooked and they only put 4 clams in linguini with clams entre. Service was not good either. But on a high note creamed spinach was good. Not going back

Place is secretly located in a office building. It was beautifully decorated for the holiday. They do have reasonably priced lunch menu but it was limited. I had a cobb salad which was very good. Dumpling appetizer was just ok and didnt get much for the price of the dish. Location and limited options had a negative effect, but the food and service were good

I don’t think I will be going back. The food was actually quite good. tastefully prepared and fresh. It’s unfortunate because the atmosphere of the restaurant doesn’t match the food. Made a reservation on Opentable an despite that we waited 30 mins for a table. The tables were cramped and the constant interruption of a chair being knocked by a patron or waitstaff was annoying. The service was slow, and inattentive I think because of understaffing. The poor manager kept clearing tables to deal with the problem. It’s too bad because with food that is actually good the place could have potential.

Great Food ! When u get it!!! The service is the worst, our waiter was not only rude, but incompetent ! The manager was not only a liar, he was arrogant ! I personally go out to eat for the food, service and ambiance. 2 out of 3 doesn’t get a return trip! Service was better at Mickey«Ds»!

I hadn’t been to this restaurant in several years and I went back last week with a friend of mine. The place was still very much the same decorated nice and seem to have attracted many corporate people that work locally. The people who work here are very nice and the manager set us and he was lovely. The food here is tasty and the service is pretty good. Only gripe is that I wish the menu was larger. When I went this place many years ago the menu seem to be bigger and have more choices. They even had sushi. The bar area is very large and it is a good place to do happy hour and drinks. It’s a fairly decent size and its cozy I would say.

Came here with a living social saved me like half off it was great. It was basically empty around 7pm .Had the lamp lollipops for a appetizer it was amazing, highly recommend it. The halibut dish was delicious but unfortunately they did not have the steak or second choice of red snapper available for my date. The martinis were delicious just in very small martini glasses and again my date was served a beer in a warm mug. The service was good, food came out fast. So overall I liked the place but for my date there were a few hiccups.

Absolutely Amazing! Our pary of three had very different entrees and salads; each and every one was outstanding! Fish was fresh and the accompanying sauces were perfect without being overpowering. Portions were huge, which means I have an amazing lunch for tomorrow! We stumbled upon this place and we were all more than pleasantly surprised by the experience.

Loved it here. It’s in a weird location we actually thought we were lost for a moment but once we walked in it was great. Quiet, spacious and great service. Recommend the Halibut.

One of the worst restaurant experiences in my life… Went to Cool Fish recently for a private party and it was horrendous. I was at a table with several young children and it took them over 2 hours to serve the children pasta. How is that possible? How can they let young children sit there for hours without feeding them? Our party complained and complained that food wasn’t being served to anyone… The majority of the food finally came out 2.5 hours after the start of the party. Cool Fish was disorganized and mismanaged. I would never recommend it to anyone.

If you don’t mind paying a big premium for atmosphere and being in a «The Scene» kind of a place then this place is certainly for you. I’m no executive chef but the fish I cook would stand up to any dishes they served. My portion of Striped bass was so small I was still hungry after the meal. This place has a solid reputation and runs on the hype and atmosphere. I’ve eaten here a a few times and was not impressed either time– but I don’t need fancy décor and high prices to enjoy a meal– some do. So I do think it is a high quality establishment– but an overpriced one at that.

Just yummy! Went here on Sunday evening 7:45 reservation. Place was pretty busy for a Sunday before labor day and we were asked if we wouldn’t mind grabbing a drink at the bar before being seated(which in the end they said was on them!) The bartender was great, really sociable and helpful in ordering drinks. I went with the blood orange margarita, strong and delish!, and my boyfriend had a punch he loved. Sat down pretty quick so we brought our drinks to the table. The bread basket was warm and had pumpernickel, very good. We decided we really wanted to try a lot on the menu so we ordered 3 courses of appetizers. Started with the Lobster Bisque and the raw oyster platter(½ dozen). The bisque was very very good, fresh and not overly creamy. The raw oysters were perfect and fresh. Next, went with tuna tartar and the chicken teriyaki dumplings over quinoa. I loved the tuna tartar. I am not a big pan seared person but my bf said the dumplings were delicious. The quinoa was absolutely amazing. Next a buffalo mozz arugula salad and my bf tried the grilled lamb lollipops. The buffalo mozzarella was very creamy and the salad a nice portion. He really enjoyed the lamb lollipops. We also ordered two glasses of wine with the food, very good. Not one complaint about anything!

I came here years ago for«Happy Hour» when I worked next door but never had the privilege of eating dinner. Today, was my anniversary so we decided to try something different. The ambiance was refined & classy without being elitist or pretentious. After being seated, I was very impressed with the prompt, attentive & friendly service. The young Asian American waitress was refreshing, knowledgeable & patient with my slow decision making. She was also really attentive throughout and AFTER the dinner(without making me feel like I had to leave) which is not as common among waitstaff as it should be. When I left my seat to use the men’s room, one of the male wait staff noticed, gestured for me to follow, and led me to destination. When I thanked him for the assist, he replied with«It’s a guy thing»… THAT is a service win for«dudes». As for the food… I decided to go with the Chilean Sea Bass which was one of the best decisions I’ve made as of late. The Sea Bass was seared and showcased on an amazingly creamy & delicious bed of what appeared to be potato mash & sauteed Spinach. If that wasn’t awesome enough, all of THAT was covered by a Lobster fricassee(ie «Bisque» to me” with some chunks of creamy lobster for good measure. If it were legal, I would marry this dish. I was feeling full but, what the Hell, I HAD to try dessert. My wife had the Chocolate«TeePee» while I relished over this amazing«Jack Daniels Chocolate Pecan Pie». This thing was Rich & tasty and was plated on chocolate syrup & covered by some Vanilla Bean Ice Cream(there was a little more love in the form of a dollop of whipped cream but I don’t want to brag. All in all, this was a «pricey dinner» but the staff, the ambiance and the awesome frickin Sea Bass was worth every penny. We will be back. Well done!

What a disappointment! We were a party of 6 and it was Restaurant Week and we all walked away less than enthused. Service was slow & unresponsive and even though the sever displayed a pleasant personality, we had to beg for our beverages and then flag her down to adjust a number of complaints once we were served. You would think they would want to get the liquor served before the food! Anyway, the worst part was that for a venerable place like this, the fish would be Devine. Not so! We had a majority order the salmon special and all concurred that it was disappointing, and in one case, tasted«fishy» Sad for a normally reliable place. Desserts were Devine, but they had no offerings for the diabetic patron. You would think having berries available would be easy in the Springtime when all the stores offer them. Sorry to say, I have to rethink my returning here.

Went here on Saturday, March 15 for the first time as a Newsday article about Tom Schaudel’s daughter sparked an interest. Wifey and I split a taco appetizer, ordered a bottle wine, each ordered an entrée and I had a cup of coffee. All in all, spent a total of 53 minutes in the restaurant(I checked my watch). Not sure who the blame lies with as we kept asking for a few minutes when the waiter came by to take order and when courses were delivered, however food was continuously brought out top of each other — we didn’t even get a chance to try the bread because the appetizer was brought out so quickly. Food was good — I got the porcini rub tuna, wife got salmon and the taco appetizer was fair. But feeling like I was at a chain restaurant and they just wanted to turn over the table tarnished the evening. And there wasn’t even people waiting for the table by the time we left.
