I travel to Syracuse a couple times a year. This used to be one of my favorites. No longer, the service is more than just slow. The food quality has gone down, the lemon chicken soup was devoid of chicken and rice.

This was the first time I’ve ever walked out after already seated. The place was pretty dead, with only 1 waitress. Our drinks were brought over pretty quick, but 30m later we still hadn’t been seen to even order. Needless to say, my kids were restless and ready to go. We flagged the waitress down one last time and was told she’d be right with us, but 10m later and still nothing. We payed for our drinks and left. The waitress was semi apologetic and informed us that she always gets stuck as the only waitress. That said, the place was virtually empty! I expected at least that they would try to get us to stay.

We visited today for lunch. Waitstaff was attentive, but kitchen was slow due to a large party in the back room of 70 ppl. Salads/soups were on the table quickly, but entrees were another story. The house salad was nothing inspired, tired iceberg lettuce, white onion, tomato slice. I ordered stuffed manicotti which came covered in melted mozzarella which was momentarily exciting — the actual manicotti was cardboardish in texture, and hard around the edges. I’m assuming it had been frozen previously, and maybe in the freezer a little too long. It was not burnt, just hard. There wasn’t a lot of sauce on the dish either. I didn’t finish it. So, not impressed. This is not the Steak and Sunday of 25⁄30 years ago which is kind of sad…

Been there many times over the years. Good steaks. Never tried their sundae. The menu on Unilocal is not complete. They have many types of steak to offer. Big cuts of meat. Half the customers are elderly, so it’s quiet. Friendly staff.

I eat here at least once a week. It’s very convenient to where I live. Okay, it’s a bit laid back but the food and portions are good. I get the chicken Caesar salad, the open steak sirloin or cheeseburger. I’m fussy and I never leave there hungry.

the last time that i was there i had 2 poached eggs on corned beef hash with wheat toast and ice water. the bill was $ 8.60, so your at $ 10.00 or more with tip depending on the service or your generosity. that seems very high to me. service is mediocre and you often have to chase someone for the check. it’s convenient to my house, but often not that convenient after i get there…

Wowza. Get the chicken, it’s not on the menu, but it’s so insanely moist, delicious and heaven sent. Even the sausage that’s in the chicken dish is mouth-watering. The greek salad is also equally impressive. The ziti? Not so much. But yes, back to the best chicken I’ve ever eaten. Order this while you’re there, or for catering(like we did).

This place is the definition of foul. The only reason it looks crowded is because it is with really old people due to the cheap prices. It’s gross though don’t do it

Ate here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The lemon chicken rice soup is very good! The portions are huge and everyone was very happy with what they got. The Greek salad is delicious, great feta! I will ask for dressing on the side next time they do go a little heavy on it. They have a ton of homemade desserts. All look delicious so hard to choose! The brownie cheesecake was very good. Will be going back and recommending it to others!

Several people in my office ordered breakfast(to go) today. I ordered medium rare steak & scrambled eggs and home fries. The menu said $ 9.95 for the meal. I gave my manager,(who was nice enough to go pick up our meals) $ 20 for my breakfast. She gave me back $ 6. She said when she was paying the bill, the waitress told her the prices are different for«to go» AND the home fries cost extra. Show me that on the menu on line. Now for the meal… the home fries were ok, but were overpowered by a ton of onions. The scrambled eggs were good… hard to screw them up. The steak was over done and tougher than a boiled owl. We’ll never order again.

This place was a mess. We sat down and were surrounded by those little fruit flies. It was so bad one of my friends commented to the waitress on the fly problem. The server came back and told my mother in law that what she ordered wasn’t available to she had to get something else. Maybe it was an off day. I may or may not go back again.

We love Steak and Sundae! I have never had the breakfast so I can’t comment on that but my husband and I go for dinner frequently. It’s high-quality diner food — everything is homemade and delicious. The Lemon Chicken Rice soup is to die for.

Neither overwhelmingly good nor bad. They let me order off the breakfast menu for lunch which I appreciate. I got scrambled eggs, toast and hash browns. The eggs were good. The toast was a little on the burned side, but unremarkable, and the hash browns were totally flavorless. My dining companions each got chicken kabobs, which looked appealing, but they agreed were also unremarkable and processed tasting. The restaurant is rather large, and the wait staff seemed friendly enough. If you’re into diner-style eating, and enjoy bland food, this place may be for you.

In my quest to discover Syracuse’s best breakfasts, Steak and Sundae was my latest option. I’ve known of the restaurant but hadn’t been until Sunday, mid-morning. The place was pretty crowded but we were seated immediately. After settling into our booth, it occured to me that Steak and Sundae would be a great candidate for Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible. Its appearance is severly outdated and lacks ambiance. The service was hurried and impersonal. The menu options were typical of a diner: I settled on homefries and a feta cheese omelet. My dining partner also chose homefries, as well as a spinach, feta, and tomato omelet and pancakes. The portion sizes were enough to share; unfortunately, the quantity could not make up for the quality of the food. The toast that came with my omelet was a little burnt, the omelet itself didn’t actually have anything in it(what happened to my feta?!), and my fellow patron found a hair in the homefries. I am almost always willing to give new places a second try if the initial experience is disappointing; however, in the instance of Steak and Sundae, it’s just not worth it.

Came back here and had the steak and eggs. Every once in a while I crave a shitty diner steak covered in A-1, so I came here, since steak is in the name and I wanted to try the place again. I have extremely low expectations for diner steaks, but this one was pretty goddamn bad even based on those expectations. It was a huge steak but it wasn’t trimmed at all so it was just covered in gristle and fat. It was actually cooked properly, to medium rare, but the entire thing tasted super charred, and not in a good way, and even the bites of steak that weren’t fatty or gristly were super chewy. Just noticed the guy who claims I was wrong that they don’t serve breakfast all day, but then says they serve it until 2 pm. That’s not all day, dude, what the hell? Anyway, like most places in Syracuse that are primarily frequented by old people, this restaurant is not good. Greek diner with steak in the name that does not serve good gyros or steak, and stops serving breakfast at two? Steak and Sundae, you serve no purpose in my life.

With its huge menu and great service, this really nice diner attracts large crowds of Syracusans. One Unilocaler claims that they don’t serve breakfast all day, but they do serve breakfast until two in the afternoon – you just have to ask for the breakfast menu. The fried fish(haddock) served on Fridays is worth traveling for. You get a huge, delicious piece of fish whether you order the platter or the sandwich. On a whim I recently got a side of mac & cheese with my fish sandwich, instead of the usual fries. To sum up, this meal left me licking my grinning chops for the rest of the day. Good food, reasonable prices, nice people. One of my favorite spots in Syracuse.

The best way to describe Steak and Sundae is like a glorified diner. The food is above average, but is not to be confused with anything from a fine dining establishment. The menu features many items ranging from typical breakfast fare to Americanized Greek. One of the most popular items that many people get is the fried haddock. If you like fried haddock, Steak and Sundae serves up large portions(just look around, you will know who the regulars are!). If getting the sandwich only, get an order of fries instead of the potato chips. The fries are crispy and delicious. Another item ordered by our party was the Gyro. The wait staff is obviously not trained on true Greek pronunciation of this classic Greek staple. Other than that, the Gyro was fair. It was not shaved lamb meat like I was expecting, but rather patties that ressembled the textures and flavors of Mcdonald’s breakfast sausage. I would not recommend. Overall, the experience that you will receive from Steak and Sundae will be pleasing. If you are looking for a casual restaurant that is family friendly, this hits the spot.

This place is great! I’ve had breakfast and lunch here. Breakfast(western omlette, added cheese) was very tasty and huge. It must’ve been at least a 3-egg omlette.(No I wasn’t thinking about my cholesterol level). I did forget to order a side of hashbrowns, which made me sad. Good coffee, too. Lunch I had the fried fish. Sorry, I don’t remember which type of fish. It was also huge! I had to take the rest home with me. It was good as a cold sandwich.(Yeah, I know there are some of you going«eewww» right now). The service was great! Two different waitresses and they were both outgoing, friendly, and helpful. I didn’t have any dessert(shocking!). I was too full. I would definitely come back to this place again!

I cannot believe that nobody has reviewed this Syracuse gem yet! I LOVE the Steak & Sundae! L-O-V-E. When I was a kid, they were located in a run down old building on James Street, but in the past few years they moved to a nice building of their own on Teall Ave. The back room is great for large groups. The move was an upgrade for sure. But the food and the service are what really shine. On Fridays, in addition to their regular options, they usually have homemade macaroni and cheese(if you don’t want it as an entrée, ask for it as your pasta side), New England clam chowder, and a fried seafood special. Their pork chops and prime rib are also favorites of my family. Desert is a MUST. But you’ll know that when you walk in and come face to face with the desert case. It is drool-worthy. They always have several varieties of cakes, pies, and cookies, but I usually stick to my favorites: their cannolis and cream pies. The prices are moderate, but because the portions are so large, there is always enough for another meal with the leftovers. On top of all that, the staff is super friendly. What more can you ask for in a family friendly diner?
