No words can express what this dojo has done for my Girls!!! I will be forever be grateful for Steve and Susanne Curran. Over the top with their attention to all the little details that make a difference. Steve Curran changed my daughters life for the better!

Forever grateful

I had put my daughter into karate at different studios in her young life.
It was not until I brought her to Steve Currens Academy in Tacoma, that I and my daughter Eleni, found out or learned what the difference between the karate studios prior, and what she is learning now at the Currens Academy .
My daughter is 8 years old. I brought her at age 7, I have seen her grow into a more caring confident disciplined, honest person. She has learned and took to school the discipline and respect into the classroom, where after a year, she has gone from a c student to student of the month.
She is not afraid to ask for help. At the academy, KAICHO, SUZANNE, and all the sensei’s have made her, learn to expect the best out of herself and others around her.
I continue to be amazed at the life skills learned, as well as athletic ability that will be with her forever.
I honestly came in thinking as others might that it was a business, more money, more attention to the student.
I was so wrong. No bought belts, nobody in the academy left behind.
Its been a blessing my daughter has had this chance. She wanted me to add it has helped her focus which no doctor, drug, or sport, had done for me or did I realize what an art to meditate and to be aware of yourself and suroundings even ment. To hear my 8 year old realize or see her self sooth has been a special aspect on its own that I prayed for years, that she would not use medication as I or many children or even adults today still use not able to understand what it is to self sooth, focus by breathing, and thinking before we speak, learning it’s not what we say we can do, it’s what we know or show we can do.
I owe a lot to the whole Curren family.

My son started at Steve Curran Karate almost 6 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I have made as his parent. When he started he was painfully shy and afraid of new situations. The instructors had patience with him but also held expectations for him. Now, he is a confident and respectful 11 year old who can defend himself, take instruction and accept criticism. In addition, the balance and agility he has gained has helped him greatly in other sports. This is a great Karate school that does not hand out black belts. Students work hard and learn perseverance.
