When you’re down on your luck, these guys will put salt on your wounds! Got distracted and closed the door behind me without grabbing my keys because of a notice to enter on my door and I was bring out the garbage. I was shocked when my door closed because it was 6pm and the office is closed. I had to track down maintenance, just to find out that the office has the wrong keys for my apt. So I had to call a locksmith, knowing I only have around $ 75 on the table. Got quoted $ 69.98 on the phone, in my mind that is overcharging already for less than 15 min of work .When the locksmith got here he was asking $ 150+tax before even trying to open my apt door. He said that my lock is 6 pin and not 5. Might have to drill the lock to get in and replace the lock. I told him to leave if he has to do all that, because I don’t have the money to pay him. He was making excuses to charge over double the quoting price! I keep telling him to leave and I will call another locksmith. He then said that he will call the office and ask for a lower rate but never did call and started haggling with me saying he will accept $ 100 cash and I told him $ 80 cash, I might can afford that. He said anything lower than $ 100 is not worth calling the main office to ask for a lower rate because they will say no. Wasting 10 minutes arguing with me because I said I will only pay $ 75 cash which is over the quoting price. I keep telling him to leave for overcharging. He told me I have to give him $ 30 to leave. I told him my money and keys are in my apt. I was getting pressured for money heavily. He only started picking the lock after I agreed to pay $ 100 cash… I told him if you can’t open it in 5 mins, just forget it. I will call another locksmith. Only took 1 min to open my door and still wanted $ 100. I gave him $ 76 all the cash I had on the table, I told him if he wanted more I might have $ 5 or so in pennies and nickels. Now I keep a spare key hidden outside somewhere.
