Ahhh, The Beach Tavern. I’ve had many good times here over the last decade. If I could vote for the best Dive Bar-Dive Bar as a good thing-in the South Puget Sound Area, I’d vote for The Beach with no hesitation. Located across the street from Titlow Park and gorgeous views, The Beach Tavern is a unique Tacoma gem. Their Full Bar and All-American pub fare are old-school and darn satisfying. Sure, I miss the shuffleboard table, but the remodel done a few years ago helped a ton with seating. I recommend bringing in a few friends, ordering a couple of broasted chickens(be patient for them), some Jojos, and pitchers of beer. If you don’t have any friends, stop in by yourself, you’ll still have a good time. It’s a wonderful cheap-date-night spot too. You won’t be disappointed! Forget Taco Tuesday, it’s all about Taco Thursday here. Enjoy the locals and be courteous, don’t forget to tip the All-Star Staff, and save some change for the Jukebox.

Stopped in for fish n chips, after walking Chambers bay with an out town friend. OMG! We even got a green salad!!! The only thing different, I would do next time is to tell them to burn the fries. I like them crispy crunchy. Might even try one of their burgers.

Meh. Went here with my partner and we were less than impressed. Waitresses were nice but VERYSLOW. Waited at least 20 minutes for our check and had to go up to the bar and wait another five minutes just to get service. We ordered fried oysters and the prime dip. Very mediocre food. Think dennys quality. Overpriced for the quality and portions. My boyfriend also ordered a bloody mary. I didnt try it but it looked disgusting. Came in a short glass(which ive never seen before for a bloody mary) and the veggie accompaniments all looked old and wilty. I should have taken a picture because it was a sad sight. Overall not the worst thing thats ever happened to me, but the most mediocre place ive dined in a while. 1 star for sure. Would not go back.

Its a good bar a lot of locals having fun. Close to the water will be going back this summer to check it out a little more. The food was the average food and average cost for a little bar. Only had a beer and it seemed to be at a good price also. The bartenders were nice and made sure the music didn’t stop playing. It was a mix of music country, 80’s rock and a little pop.

I loved this place my friends came two weeks ago left when we were supposed to meet here they left due to shitty pour. Well my husband and I are here we love the oyster shooters and the bar but our drinks barely 1 oz in a tall. Also the bartenders tonight werent friendly and not attentive. All we taste is soda. Sorry I hate to say we won’t be back either that’s 4 customers lost :*(

I went here for the first time the other day. Pros: The bartender was nice enough and the building looked how you would expect a tavern to look. I didn’t try the food but I’ve heard it’s pretty good. Cons: It seemed like a «regulars» club. The first bartender didn’t say much to me, just asked me what I wanted to drink then walked away.(The second bartender was very nice) I feel as tho if I was a regular the first bartender would have been a little more friendly because she was very chatty and friendly to the people next to me. Another con is I wasn’t asked what type of liquor I wanted. I don’t like well liquor and like I said before bartender #1 didn’t seem to want to interact with me. All in all I would say check this place out if your going down to Titlow Beach. I just wouldn’t go out of my way.

My kind of people. A homey, polite type of vibe you want in a tavern. The waitresses aren’t some 17year old by the book gal, it’s a mom and you know it haha. Great beer, great food, great service. Almost a hidden gem if you will. If I lived closer this would be my go to bar.

This was the Best Mahi Mahi Taco I have had outside Hawaii. Fresh, a different recipe than usual.

Terrible service! Went for chicken and the last four times they were out, it was frozen, it fell on the floor, etc food is marginal at best. We will not be returning! Menus were dirty and disgusting!

Not too much of a view of the water, most people are regulars and the older crowd. Looks like they have a good menu but close the kitchen early .it’s a bar where you sit, not stand.

Fun little spot. I was in the area for work and decided to head near the water to catch a sunset and stumbled into this place. We chatted it up with the locals, had a few drinks, and got advice on where else we should go. — The food was typical bar food(mostly fried) — The service was a little slow, but friendly — The drinks and food were priced low — The atmosphere is on the dive side, mainly because of its a bit small and older I would come back if I were in the neighborhood again.

I accidentally checked in this morning when I meant to write a review. My chances of coming back to this bar are slim to none. We sat ourselves at a dirty table, ordered drinks, got our table wiped down, received our drinks, drank our drinks and then waited an additional 30 minutes before one of us decided to walk up to the bar and ask to put in a food order. We initially wanted to grab some appetizers before watching the sunset, but seeing how it took forever to even talk to someone, we weren’t able to do so. They never checked on us — a party of 4 and then when we did try to grab their attention, they were rude and snappy. The table next to us came in about 20 min after us and was served and checked on. It’s a little annoying to see. The food was good. I forgot to snap a couple of pictures. Tator tots were crispy, cheese sticks were gooey and from what I could tell, their sandwiches and salad were good as well. But man, their drinks are extremely underwhelming. I ordered a strawberry lemon drop and they filled it with syrup instead of real strawberries and cheap vodka, which you could certainly taste. My next drink was an absolute peach and sprite. The sprite was flat and only had a sugar lemon lime taste– no actual fizz. Based on service alone, I won’t be back. Food was good and reasonably priced but I’d rather not go through the hassle of flagging someone down to order when she said she’d be back shortly to take our food order. Very disappointing because it is a good location right by the water.

The staff is great, the concept and location(neighborhood tav next to the tracks and the Narrows) charming. However, I’ve soured on it and don’t plan to return. I gave it another chance after getting sick from the grilled cheese sandwich… But I regretted it. Someone picked off my iPhone after a drink with colleagues. I left it in the booth near the bar for literally a minute, realized I didn’t have it when I got to my car directly across the street, rushed back in – and it was gone. Went directly to VM when my colleagues called and showed up as «offline» when I tried FindMyIPhone… Bartender(friend of one of my colleagues) said nothing in lost and found. Nice location, great staff, but watch your back and your stuff carefully if you go there.

The sandwiches and burgers are great. The beer selection ok, could be better. The french fries… limp and greasy… go with the potato chips. Despite that, this is a great place, great specials and good happy hour.

This place was decent. It has that small town feel in Tacoma so I liked that, and the view couldn’t be beat either. Very friendly and attentive server even though the place was packed out with a local crowd that only provided a few unwelcome stares. I had the meatball sandwich and it was average, as were the happy hour tacos and tots. All food that could have easily been prepared at home in 10 minutes. The beer was reasonably priced, not a huge selection. If I go back it will be because I am in the area and want a cheap beer on the water, in one of my favorite areas of Tacoma. Ok, but nothing rave about.

This is a place that one would stumble upon. Tucked away on the water side of Tacoma near Titlow beach — it’s really a place only locals know about. The place is too nice to be a dive bar but not big enough to be much more. A jukebox blares music over the speakers while entertainment options is a small coin op pool table in one corner, a Big Game Buck hunter on the other side of the bar, a big screen TV in the middle of the floor and a couple of pull tab machines spread around. I like the home town feel of this place. But I couldn’t say I was a fan of the patrons. Maybe it was because they knew we weren’t «locals/regulars» but I can see people just looking and staring, while another was vocal enough to point and laugh and call us stupid for playing pull tabs. And another older woman mocked us by coming up to us and saying«what are you boys up to? have you won any money yet?» and then she and her two other friends just laughed as she sat back down. Obnoxious and rude we finished our beers and left. It’s a little disappointing because I wanted to like this place. I love supporting local businesses. And contrary to what these reviews say — this place had no more than 15 people on a saturday night. Not to mention out of the 5 reviews only two people have some what of credibility as the other 3 only have two reviews written. Again I want to like this place and I wouldn’t mind coming back if the other patrons weren’t so rude.

I certainly would not refer to this place as a dive bar like many others do. It has too much personality to fall into a dive category. The food is tasty, the drinks are great and the staff really makes it welcoming. The barkeep, Mark, is always quick with a joke. The smell of saltwater coming in the front door is always a plus, as well.

This place is the definition of a great local watering hole. They have the best bar food in town, and very reasonable beer and cocktail prices. You must go early on Taco Thursdays before they run out. It is a very popular night.

What a fun and cute place! The Beach Tavern is at the very end on 6th Avenue, across the street from Titlow Beach. The place is lovable and quirky. The bartender was friendly and sweet. The Tavern has an excellent view of the sound. They have a nice selection of beer on tap. Steve and I both got a Mac and Jack beer which was great! I got a meatloaf sandwich which tasted great. Really unique in flavor. I got onion rings as my side which were perfectly cooked. Steve got an awesome cheeseburger and fries! Seems like whatever you will order here it is going to taste good. The place is mellow and low key which is nice and refreshing from the crowded and noisy bars one often finds oneself in. Of course on the weekends it may be a different story.
