Jeff Miller should be a household name for northwest rock and roll fans. Golden Oldies is nothing short of a shrine to northwest rock history. Besides the great selection of 45s, decent selection of LPs, and odd ball curios, the walls are adorned by memorabilia to Tacoma and the PNW’s rock royalty.(I mean he is mentioned in the Sonics reissues as a provider of source material!) Jeff is a fount of information, and if you like early rock, r&b, blues, and soul Wilies Golden Oldies is your stop in Tacoma. It should be noted that the name is apt for Golden Oldies, you are less likely to find new releases here, and the stock — for the most part is second hand. There is very little in the way of cd’s and cassettes(a good thing in my opinion). So if you are looking for that Howlin Wolf 45, or a great surf comp. this is the place. If you want the new Adele, probably not the place for you. Prices are amazingly fair.

Stopped in yesterday as I had about 20 minutes to kill. True to the name of the shop, you won’t find too many titles from after the early to mid eighties. I don’t think I saw anything later than 1984. In visiting this shop, you really feel like you’re stepping back in time to a 1950’s man-cave of sorts. I did find a few great gems at very reasonable prices! Included was a pristine copy of Sandie Shaw’s 1965LP for $ 8, Lionel Hampton’s 58′ for $ 10, and Henri Rene’s «Music for Bachelors» for $ 12(with the awesome Jayne Mansfield cover!). I wasn’t able to scope out the $ 1 bargain bins for too long but saw some interesting title’s in good condition, some even still in shrink wrap. For example, a copy of Men at Work’s debut album for $ 1 in fine shape. Oddly enough, I saw this at another shop the same day for $ 8. I wanted to look through some of the 45’s in the main room but most of them were stacked in boxes and seemed to be pretty unorganized. This seemed a bit daunting since I only had a limited amount of time. There is a smaller room near the back with some 45’s that have been well-organized. The owner was kind and hospitable… greeted me as soon as I came in and thanked me for making the purchases. Just one caveat: this place smells like it was smoked in for 30 years up until about last Tuesday. If you’re sensitive to the smell of smoke, you might only last a few minutes.

I skipped this store like ~~ 3 times(I think). I kept asking myself«do I need any records from the 50’s or the 60′?» I couldn’t think of any and so never bothered going to this record store until I was looking for The Poppy Family«Which Way You Goin’ Billy?» LP. Boy was I surprised to find so many quality albums at so mucher nicer and affordable price for many 70’s and the 80’s LPs. I spent over $ 135. The guy working there is so nice and greets people when they come in how cool is that and says thanks and come again even if you just came in looked and went out the door. Also, I couldn’t believe this small store had something no other record stores including humungous store as Amoeba didn’t have for their customers,… bathroom! This store allows you to use their bathroom and oh just a pre-caution, lots of naked picture of ladies on the wall. Great joy going to this one and I will frequent this place from now on! Price is cheap and quality is awesome!

If you are looking for oldies and vinyl then you have hit the right place! This small record store is entirely devoted to the oldies. There are some CD’s for sale but this place is mainly vinyl all of the way!

Awesome shop! cheap records covering mostly everything up til the ‘80s. The guy that owns it is nice and so is the dog that roams around.

Golden Oldies is slightly hidden along the 6th Ave shopping strip, look across the street from Metronome Coffee and find this little blast from the past. I walked out with a stack of 45’s for less than $ 10 today, including a very nice picture sleeve of «Absolute Beginners» by David Bowie. Yay! A small-ish, but nice, collection of vinyl, with boxes of 45’s for only 50 cents each on the floor. Some cds. Great owner and friendly dog, Weezy, onhand to make your experience complete.
