We ordered takeout from here and our order was ready in about 30 minutes(calling on a Saturday night). We ordered the following: Golden Teak noodle, Tom Kha soup, Pad Thai, panang curry, and the basil fried rice. Everything was delicious! The flavors were rich, the serving sizes were big and everything was cooked right. The price was good too, dishes averaged 10 – 13 $ depending on if you wanted chicken, beef, seafood, etc. I’m excited to try what else they have!

I found this place by accident w/a friend of mine after class on a sick day. I was coming down w/a fever & had a terrible cold, so naturally I wanted some phở. I didn’t want to take a drive & this restaurant was right across the street from our college so we decided to check it out. Mind you, we both had never had Thai food so we had no idea what to expect. We tried to come in at about 10:55am but the door was locked as we realized they didn’t open for five more mins. To our surprise, the host opened the door for us a little early while we started to walk away. That was a nice gesture & a great start to a wonderful experience. The outside of the restaurant does not look very special, but the interior decoration is lovely! I am originally from the islands & I must say, this place reminded me a lot of home. It was an extremely pleasant surprise on a very unpleasant day. I must say this is one of those«don’t judge the book by its cover» cases as the inside is so much prettier than the outside. As my friend & I look through the menu, we had plenty of questions regarding the food. My friend is vegan & we were both clueless on Thai food. We asked the waiter for help & we took so long to decide that he had to excuse himself to seat others, however he came right back & was so very accommodating & happy to help. I went w the Wonton soup & my friend the vegetarian pad Thai. DELICIOUS! I have to say that Golden Teak is the restaurant that got me to LOVE Thai food! The cook did accidentally put eggs in my friend’s food, but the waiter caught it before she took her first bite. We did not have to wait long for our food, but next time instead of asking for a «level 3 spicy,» I will go for«level 5.» It was an overall wonderful first time experience! I will be back & can’t wait to try more Thai food!

What a surprise! I am not a fan of most of the Thai restaurants in UP, but This one is great! The inside is quaint, the service was attentive and friendly, and the food was delicious! I tried the Fresh Garden Roll and Phad Thai(my «test» for Thai restaurants), and my friend tried one of the specials — Avocado Green Curry. Both the noodle dishes were super flavorful. The chef even came out part way through the meal and checked in with us. Thanks — we will definitely be back! — Update — I have come back a couple of more times. Increasing to 5 stars. The food is consistently really good, reasonably priced and the staff is always friendly.

I’ve been here about 5 times in one month and every meal has been delicious. Today my friend(who brought her baby along) and I had a late lunch with Crab Ragoon, Tom Yum, Singapore Noodles and rice. Omg DELICIOUS. I never order Crab Ragoon because usually they don’t have an outstanding flavor but WOW. The best I’ve ever had. Didnt even need sauce! The baby loved the food too! We mashed some jasmine rice with the Tom Yum broth and she enjoyed it!

I judge Thai restaurants by two dishes: Phad Thai and Tom Yum soup. This is hands down the best Thai place I’ve been to in a very very long time. Owners are in the back preparing the meals and come out and talk to you after your meal. I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

I’ve been here three times in one week lol it’s been difficult to find a good, authentic Thai restaurant since moving here to Tacoma and I’m so glad I was referred to this gem. So far my family and I have ordered Tom Ka soup, wonton soup, Tom Yum(with prawns), chicken satay, pad Thai, red curry, fried rice, and my favorite craving Singapore Noodles. Everything here is absolutely delicious and the employees are very sweet. The chef came out to say hi to us tonight and thanked us for our business too. When the food is delicious and the service is great your bound to have people come back and back again. See you guys next week(or in a couple of days) :-)

Came in here on a Friday night with my mom and fiancé. Virtually nobody in the place eating so we were a bit concerned that we were in for a disappointing experience. Fortunately that was not the case. We were greeted quickly by a friendly waiter who seated us at a booth and promptly brought us waters. The menu had a wide range of yummy Thai options and we settled on the spicy garlic chicken with a cup of jasmine rice, a cup of tom yum(hot and sour) soup, and an order of chicken Phad Thai. The prices were about standard for a Thai restaurant, however rice is about $ 1 — $ 1.50 extra as it is not included. The waiter explained that people would never eat the rice when they just included it, so they opted to make it an add on. While this makes sense to me as I am not a fan of white rice, and never eat mine price wise if you get the added rice, it puts this place slightly more expensive than most Thai places locally(they don’t lower the price for the fact they are not giving you rice). The food was all very good! The fiancé ordered the spicy garlic chicken with jasmine rice and enjoyed the flavor. The«cup» of rice was quite large and there was plenty left over, so unless you are sharing the rice with a party of about 4, you likely wouldn’t need a «bowl» of it. I ordered a cup of the tom yum soup, with a spice level of 4. The flavor was fantastic with large slices of fresh mushroom, large slices of chicken, onion and cilantro. The only downfall is probably that it lacked a little substance. I have had tom yum soup at a variety of places and they never all put the same veggies in it. Fortunately the broth was so flavorful the lack of veggies didn’t phase me… I could drink that broth all day every day! The size of the«cup» was much larger than I had expected. My mom and I shared the Phad Thai(spice level 2, she’s a wuss when it comes to spice lol). The flavor was very good and the portion was just right for 2 people to share. The best thing I would say is that it wasn’t drenched in sauce. My biggest pet peeve about Phad Thai is when places put so much sauce on it you have a soupy mess. This was not the case here. They know just the right ratio of sauce to noodles! I had the waiter bring an array of hot sauces(since I did have to liven up my portion of the Phad Thai) which included a red chili sauce and these chopped peppers which really gave the Phad Thai an extra kick. Overall a very good experience. Will definitely be back!

Staff were very friendly and on top of refilling drinks, food was by far the best my husband and I have had at any thai restaurant and the spice plate was very fresh and delicious!

I actually went here thinking it was still the oriental noodle, but gave them a shot. My wife and I both got pad thai and were perfectly happy with the food. Officially, there is better thai food in Tacoma, but for the price and the amount of food you get with your meal I have no complaints and I will be back to try their curry.

My boyfriend and I came to this restaurant after reading the Unilocal reviews and all the good reviews from them so we decided to try it out since it was close to us. We went in and the restaurant looked very nice inside and it was just two people, both very friendly: one woman greeted us and seated us. I believe she was the cook too. The other person, a young man, was our waiter. I ordered the appetizer sampler with the Golden Teak noodles with beef and Thai iced tea, while my boyfriend got Phad Thai with pork. Altogether, the bill came to $ 40. I gave the review 4 stars only because it was definitely pricey, but the food was delicious and the service was wonderful! I generally like to support small businesses and I would most definitely come here again.

Was driving around with an empty stomach and I remembered seeing this place the other day, so I figured I’d take a chance. I’m glad I did. I ordered the beef panang and told then to make it as spicy as they wanted to(they go to 5 here, and I was hoping to have my face melted off). I got it home and I took a couple bites. Flavor was great and I LOVED the addition of al dente green beans, it added a nice crunch and flavor component. What I didn’t experience: heat… I’ve noticed that a lot of places, if you’re of a paler complexion and you order your food super hot, you kinda get treated with kid gloves. However, that was the ONLY thing I was disappointed by, and I will definitely make this place my local spot. Great food, good prices, and super friendly staff.

I’m always in search of a good Thai restaurant in Tacoma. This place has a very nice décor, and the server was very nice and friendly. I liked their appetizer — deep fried shrimp and taro wrapped in spring roll wrapper. But not a fan of their Pad See Ew because the noodles were quite broken(yes they can be, but I’ve seen better), chicken was a bit too tough, and too much sauce. And I’m not sure if Thai coffee is supposed to have coffee ground enough to the point where you can’t stir — which means you either end up eating good amount of coffee ground or suck condensed milk on the surface to get to the coffee…

Worse Thai food I ever ate. Pad Thai had too much fish sauce and Panang did not have enough Curry taste and green beans were like rubber! Very gross. Do not recommend!

This is our new favorite thai restaurant in Tacoma. Whatever magic they’re doing back in the kitchen seems to make their dishes taste super flavorful. So far, we’ve had their Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Basil Fried Rice, and Crab Fried Rice. All of the dishes were excellent and by far the best tasting we’ve had in this area. Highly recommended.

I downloaded the Unilocal app specifically so I could write a review for this place. I’ve eaten a lot of Thai food in the Seattle area. Thai Tom and Som Tam Thai are two of my favorites. They have nothing on this place. The first time I went there was earlier this week. My dad told me about this great Thai place he had tried, and so I said, yes, let’s try it. I had the Showering Rama and my dad had pad Thai and the red curry. Everything we had was incredible. I asked for a 5 star spicy and boy was it hot. What was incredible was it was melt my mouth spicy but still maintained fantastic flavor. This week, I’ve been there three separate times. Every time i had something different and every time I was blown away. If you are ever in the mood for Thai, this is the place to go.

We spotted the balloons and«Grand Opening sign for Golden Teak Thai Restaurant on the way to the gym today, so after our workout, we decided to try it. And boy were we glad we did! There are a number of Thai restaurants in the area, but in my very honest opinion, this new upstart is simply the best. As always, Anne and I shared two dishes — this time I ordered the Spicy Ginger Combo — chicken stir fried with ginger, onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, snow peas and green onion. Anne had the Basil Combo — chicken stir fried with Thai Basil, a hint of garlic, chilies, onions, bell pepper and mushrooms Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked. The flavors all blended so well — the basil was very present in just the right amount. Both dishes were just yummy beyond words and we both ate way more than we normally do LOL! But the Phad Thai… OMG!(comes with EVERY lunch special!) I don’t know how they do it but their Phad Thai is simply the best I’ve ever had anywhere. I actually seldom even eat it — at least around here, it’s all about the same — smothered in peanuts, and overall pretty bland. Why waste high calories on food that’s not all that good, right? But not here — it was AMAZING. If you try nothing else at Golden Teak, you have GOT to try the Phad Thai! And the brown rice… yeah, usually pretty much the same. Not here. Something as mundane as brown rice takes on a new meaning — and again, no clue how they do it — but the flavor and texture were amazing. Gary(the owner) and his family were very gracious as well. He made the point to introduce himself to his patrons, and explain his wife’s wonderful cooking — it helped make for a truly 5-star experience. We will be back — SOON. And as always, I have ZERO affiliation with Golden Teak — I know that when folks read Unilocal reviews so glowing, especially on a first review, there can be skepticism — but trust me — my review is real. At least from our experience today, this was the best Thai I’ve experienced. Dave
