Hanson’s Chimney Service

Hanson’s is the preferred contractor for my HOA, and having had them work on my chimney both last winter and this, I am thoroughly confused as to how they got that gig. Last year I had no fireplace for the coldest, snowiest 3 weeks of the year, because Hanson’s was «waiting for parts to come in,» to fix the issue with smoke from my fireplace downdrafting into my neighbor’s unit.
So I wasn’t thrilled to have to have them back out for an inspection again in mid-​December when smoke suddenly started downdrafting into MY unit. Dan, the owner, was 30 minutes late to our appointment, despite my emphasis on the phone that they must be on time so that I could get to work on time. Not only did he not call to tell me he was running late — he didn’t even acknowledge he WAS late upon his arrival. He told me they had several repairs to complete in our complex and would lump mine in eith throse repairs. Fine, when will it be done? «A week if you’re lucky.» Charming. I told him to call me and let me know.
So this Saturday it’s cold & I’m annoyed I can’t use my fireplace. So I call & leave a voicemail requesting an update on the repairs. No return call, so I call again on Tuesday. I leave a second, less polite voicemail. He instantly calls me back and asks for Sarah. I say this is not Sarah. He says am I the one waiting on the new flue & tiles on the furnace stack? I say I don’t have a furnace, just a fireplace. He says wait wait are you at such & such address & I say no, that’s not me, I JUST called & left a voicemail. Then he realizes I’m NOT the person whose invce he has in his hand, who am I again? I start telling him about the problem they had been out for, he FINALLY figures out who he is speaking to, & says, «I think that one’s fixed already.» You think? You don’t have an invoice or any other record? He says he’s pretty sure it’s done, could I go outside & look at the stack to see if it looks different at all. I say absolutely NOT it’s pouring down rain. SERIOUSLY?! No work orders, no invoices? No wonder he was late — probably doesn’t write down appointment times either! I was pissed. I told him I would have appreciated a phone call letting me know it was done since I’ve been avoiding using my fireplace. He says he’s sure he tried to call me. I said I had zero record of calls from him on either of my phone lines & definitely no voicemails. His response, «Well I’m sure I tried.»
Whatever. My HOA can bite me, I am NEVER using them again!
