Horrible experience! Proceed with caution! Not only did they double charge me on a return, they salso sold me a defective magazine. These gripes are minimal, however, when compared to the real reason I am giving a one star review.
I went in planning to drop over $ 1000 on a rifle. I inspected the gun that I wanted and found it to be satisfactory. It was used, however it seemed to be in superb condition. Before I made my purchase, I requested a demo mag to try on the gun. It would not fit… I tried another mag, much to the employees disliking. It also did not fit. after pointing out that it was clearly a defective gun, the employee shook his shoulders and said «well, I guess that’s going back on the shelf». And proceeded to hang the gun back up on the wall! I will never go back!!!

This store tried to sell a defective used ak rifle to me, wasn’t concerned it was defective, and put it back on the next chump. Intentionally pushing defective guns is bad practice. Avoid this shop.

Called in this morning AS SOON AS STORE OPENED to check and see if they had a barrel for my RUGER SR 556 Takedown. And Immediately the person who answered was rushing me off, telling me «I have a store full of customers right now» as I asked questions about pricing and availability. He just seemed to give me the good ol «I don’t know» answer to everything I asked. Mind you I called at 1001 exactly. And they open at 1000. I Would never recommend calling to inquire about anything since you will not be treated as a customer. I ended up going to Federal Way discount guns today and picking up the barrel. Thankfully their staff was nice over the phone. Didn’t mind answering any questions. And guess what, when I arrived at Federal discount. THEY HAD A STORE FULL OF CUSTOMERS. Still didn’t stop them from giving quality service over the phone.
Based on the the customer service over the phone, I would never recommend going to this place to buy. In person service is probably worse since they are so «full of customers»

Just picked up my new AR lower from these guys. Very happy with the price and service. Went in last Wednesday and my wife and I where immediately greeted by T.J. very helpful and nice guy. Showed us some pistols and got my paperwork started on the lower. This place was a zoo, no doubt due to the Xmas rush. We waited awhile to do the BATF check but there are plenty of items to look at in the store. Took more than a few days for my check to go through (no fault of the store I am always flagged by BATF.) I’ll continue to make the drive from King County to shop with these guys. Didn’t catch the other employee’s name (bald guy) but him, T.J. and the female cashier where all very nice. Thanks guys!

Great deal on Gold dots! I picked up a 1000 round bulk ammo can for I think like $ 239! Factory new stuff too! I will be back for sure. I am so far really liking the few employees I have talked to. (Other than one guy who told me I would need to spend $ 1400 for a piston upper?) I paid $ 650 for my Adams piston upper and I have had zero issues with it. Of course you could spend that much… but it is not necessary. At least not for my intended use.

i came in with my ar15 bought pretty much a whole new upper and wanted them to put it together I was only goanna have them do it if it was goanna be done with in 2 days they said no problem it will be done tomorrow so wait around all day the next day no call a hour before the close I called and they made up an excuse as to why it was not done and said it would be done Monday so now it is 5 days later and what do you know its still not done now there saying it will be done tomorrow its bs now I half to pro long my trip and not leave cause they don’t do what they say I, m not happy at all with the situation and I will not go back.

If you need a gunsmith or just some top talent to sort out an issue they are top notch. They have a wide range of supplies and have them in stock. Talented staff that knows what they are doing. If they had a range built in they would be perfect.

Great store and have been going to them for the last 2 years. Their prices are highly competitive if not cheaper (Glock, AR, AK mags, ammo, Surefire lights) than some of their competitors. Chuck, Mason et al are friendly, knowledgeable and have a no pressure sales technique which I like. I can’t stand condescending know it all mall ninjas, good olé’ boys who look suspiciously at anyone of color or grumpy old men who work in a lot of stores I’ve visited over 20 years of shooting. The type of employees that don’t care til you pull the wallet out. These guys are not that. I would have no problem recommending my girlfriend, novice friends go there for their shooting needs.
Caveats: Parking kinda sucks. Very limited free parking. The big lot under the overpass is not free and you risk ticketing or towing if you don’t pay on the far side of the lot. Also, they specialize in tacticool guns and gear. If you’re looking for hunting, cowboy action or skeet related guns and gear, selection is very limited.

I purchased one black MagPul MS4 sling for my Colt 6920 with free-​float hand guard from Surplus Ammo & Arms although it was way overpriced ($ 60+Tax!), because I needed a two-​point sling for my tomorrow’s day at the range.
When I brought a sling home and mounted it on my carbine I found that sling is horribly heavy, poorely designed and does not work for me at all. BTW, here is a video (not mine) that shows why MS4 does not meet shooter’s needs:
Therefore, I took it back next day, first thing in the morning, but was told that Surplus Ammo & Arms does not do any returns — only exchanges or store credit.
Nowhere at the front door or in their store, nor on a receipt it is indicated that they do not do returns. In addition sales clerk never mentioned this policy of no return to me either at any time when I was making a purchase.
I do not steal, I work hard for my money and now I am stuck with an item that does not work for me. I believe their «silent» of no return policy makes their business unfair.
I would not recommend this store. If I could give zero stars, I would. In fact, Federal Way Discount Guns has a competitive selection of firearms and accessories, better prices and outstanding customer service.

My boyfriend and I came in here and had the best experience looking at handguns! We both had an idea of what we wanted when we walked in, and the gentleman who helped us (I should have asked his name — white guy with glasses) was nothing but helpful! I never felt like I was asking a dumb question or asking too many questions, nor did I feel I was being judged for being a beginner. He even taught me everything I need to look for when purchasing a quality used gun!
All in all, it was a great experience. We will definitely be giving them our business when we are ready to purchase!

This is the best & my favorite Gun Shop in the Tacoma area. In a lot of ways it’s really tough to not just outright declare it as my favorite shop. The only reason I can’t is they are very low on reloading supplies.
I have purchased 2 firearms and 1 NFA item from this store. I picked up and FNX-​45 Tactical on the day I filled out the Form 4 for my NFA Item. I purchased my Silencerco SAKER 762 from this store, they were $ 250 dollars less money then my next favorite store. By not gouging me on price for the SAKER I ended up buying the FNX Tactical from them (they just plain had a better price also on the 45). Price is important, however it’s not the most important.
I really like how all but 1 employee I have ever interacted with has treated any questions even if they seem simple or they have answered it 1000 times before like it’s important. They don’t talk down to you. They are very respectful and helpful, I don’t need not want a stores employees to pretend to be my friend, I just need them to treat me with respect. SAA is very good at balancing friendly without being fake.
I love the selection of Oakley SI products, 5.11 Tactical, Troy, Trijicon™, EoTech, Magpul, FNH, COLT, Sig Saurer, Block I meant Glock (each trigger has unique mix of gravel in it), and hundreds of other great brands & products.
Maybe someday I will make this a more coherent review, I just wanted to get my review up finally. I have been meaning to for over a year.
They are great go there. Oh and their Lower Receivers & Upper Receivers are extremely well made for such a bargain price!

I can’t quit you Surplus Arms and Ammo! My overall experience here has been great. It’s a pissing contest here, but with competitive pricing on guns, easy location, and a bigger store. This place is hard to beat. Only gripe it does get a little chaotic here so try to avoid coming on a weekend and they need to streamline the check out process. I had to wait for quite some time to purchase items because all the other associates were assisting other customers with gun sales.
I also did have an issue on my last gun purchase. I don’t know if the sales associate who was helping me was a FNG but he had a confused look on his face. My issue is when I say I want to buy the gun don’t leave the guaranteed sale and run off to assist and spend more time with a guy whose balls haven’t dropped yet to put his virgin hands on a rifle that’s more than likely he’s not going to buy. I was left in the dark a good 15 minutes and it took a lot longer to process my paperwork because it was not done properly. In the end I still came out a happy customer.
My advice is check these guys out before going anywhere else.

Superior customer service, knowledgeable personnel. Respectful and prompt salesperson were able to help me with every question I had. No push-​no stress atmosphere was there.

I like my guns… What can I say. The guys here are squared away and are my go-​to people for questions and purchases. I just recently bought another firearm from them and dealt with Andy and Mason. Top notch service and that’s what keeps me coming back. Nicely done!

I was going to trade a shotgun for a lower AR that retails for less than $ 300, I called a few weeks later to see if the lower came in to be told it was never ordered. I was willing to give it another chance at this point and was assured the lower would be ordered that day. Luckily for me it wasn’t once again, after doing some research on gunbroker and waguns I found out the make and model shotgun was selling for between 600 $ and 900 $. I sold privately for $ 650 in less than a week. Long story short, in my opinion this was all around bad customer service as well as an unfair deal. I will not do business with this company and would not advise anyone to go here. I was supposed to be called back by someone that handles orders over a month ago now… Doubt I ever get that call.

TL;DR — 5 Stars. Excellent service, competitive pricing, even open on Sunday (most gun shops don’t)!
I was in the market for night sights for my M&P shield that I just purchased from a different shop (Ben’s in Renton) couple days ago. I looked online and have a good idea on pricing. However most of the shops close to me either do not have it (Outdoor Emporium), over-​priced (Wade’s) or have to order (Westcoast).
I was driving thru Tacoma for some other things on Sunday (3÷1÷15), I remembered Surplus moved to Tacoma. I purchased from them before when they were in Lakewood, but I never been to the new shop, so I decided to stop by and check it out.
Location is easy to get to (right off I-​5), and parking isn’t a problem (plenty on street parking). I walked in, to my surprise, they have a bunch of different night sights in stock, Trijicon and Ameriglo, It was stocked behind the counter.
Store was busy at that moment, a younger clerk did walked up and ask if I needed help. He seems new to me, which is fine, he was very helpful otherwise. He digged thru the pile and found the exact one I was looking for. I asked if they can install it for me right then, he didn’t know and pass me on to Chuck? (Bigger build African American gentlemen) whom was just freed up. Chuck went to work and got it installed. In the meantime, I found a holster for it as well (Blade-​tech).
Whole process took about 30 minutes and service was excellent. Price was very competitive, same as what I found online. When you consider that they installed it for me, it is actually cheaper.

Ive been going to them sporadically off and on over the years, many times I have left feeling «meh» about the service.
Today however instead of the counter guy telling me what I need he actually listened and helped me find what I had asked for, this is truly the first for this store.
I plan on going back in the future and only dealing with the same person.

Bottom line up front: Trust these guys with your business. May sometimes be callous, but knowledgable and helpful, with the BEST stock and variety in town. Support the local guys.
Prices are good, and selection is the BEST around. The staff is generally helpful, and are usually willing to talk with you, show you want you want, and offer you help on the floor and at the counters.
I’ve shopped here many times, nearly a dozen. Spent hundreds on ammo; my advice is know the market value because they may get you with some randomly inflated prices, but 70% of the time they are competitive.
One firearm purchase, and the process was efficient and the team work they employed to finish the sale, to the background check, to the final register work, had 3 employees involved, was a smooth process; maybe like a well oiled gun. These guys all were part of the same simple transaction, which was irregular, but it went Quickly and smoothly, which I was impressed with.
There is one employee who I have some choice words for due to his abrupt and short behavior, but maybe I just caught him on a bad day. If he catches my attention again then I’ll knock a star or two, but for now, I’ll pass it off as an irregular interaction.
I will continue to give these guys my business, but it is surely not blind business, and I do monitor market rates for ammo, accessories and guns. They earn their profit from me through customer service and good selection!

I’ve been going to these folks for most of my firearms needs for years. They always offer a better trade-​in value for your firearms and their prices are a ton more competitive than most of their competitors. Great selection of ammunition, even some harder to find stuff like 8 mm Mauser.
Lots of tactical accessories and a nice selection of pistols and rifles in all sorts of calibers. Sales staff is always cordial and polite, and seemingly enthusiasts in firearms as they are always knowledgeable and excited to offer their opinion.
The new store is a huge upgrade from their old location, and feels fresh, clean, and much better. Also easier to find!
I’ll definitely continue to come here so long as I am able.

If your in need of ammo for anything, this is the place to come to, fair prices and service has always been great!
The staff here is very knowledgeable on firearms issues, so always feel like can ask them a question if I have one, and they always seem to get you in and out fast no matter how busy they are.
