I have been shopping at this local store for over 20 years. However, I will never return. They sold me a $ 28.00 shovel that broke right up the center after two weeks. Upon trying to get a store credit they refused because I did not have the receipt. I was told a bank statement would work. Bank statements don’t show itemized sales. Over priced items with unacceptable return policy. Avoid this store at all costs. They can mark their items up because they are the only hardware store in town. Unfair practices.

Doesn’t cater to locals basically all for the tourists willing to pay twice what it’s actually worth, Its pretty ridiculous how high their prices are. They do get you through the register pretty quickly but that’s probably because they don’t want you to realize how much your actually paying until your driving away.

Swigard’s has saved me a lot of trips to Reno and/or shipping fees, and the more senior staff know that store inside and out and offer good practical advice as well.

Love this local mom and pop hardware shop. We go here all the time because of our never ending projects at our Lake Tahoe home away from home. They are super helpful and always try to make sure that you leave with what you need. I also like their supply of cute Tahoe items like candles and things for your kitchen, light fixtures etc. I love it when I happen to go there and Tink is working she always puts a smile on my face with her fun personality and helpful attitude.

On our first couple days in Tahoe, it was cold and we used a lot of the firewood in the cabin. It was off season, so we needed to find a place that sold good firewood. We found Swigard’s and a clerk helped us with a huge bag of Almond Wood. We were able to replace everything we used and we had extra to bring home. I was very tempted to buy a raft here, since they have some inexpensive ones but our vacation was nearly over. It would have been fun to tube down the river though.

They aren’t a huge store, but they have a pretty large section of the store dedicated to a selection of kitchen wares and not enough dedicated to actual home repairing. I was floored that they didn’t have rolled insulation on either of the trips I made this winter. There’s an Ace Hardware in Truckee that is much bigger, and of course the Home Depots in Reno. I would love to keep my business local, but this store isn’t really catering to the people who live here full time.

They are nice enough for most things. It’s great to find what you are looking for locally when you need it! I wanted a particular light fan. They were out of them, even though I had seen them on display there for months. I was told by the blonde girl they would order one for me, to write my number down, and they would call me when it came in. About two weeks or so later my husband got a call from a girl there saying: «Now, what did you want to order?» I went in the next day, looking for this cute marble light fan. They didn’t have any, not on display or in back. I gave up and ordered TWO from amazon. I really, really wanted to do business locally. Sometimes you just cannot. I gave three stars … only … because my husband is happy when he finds what he is looking for in there.

I’m somewhat less enthusiastic about this place. It has most of what you might need, but enough is missing to sometimes make a trip elsewhere necessary. Many of the guys that work there are really young and do not have any experience in the trades. They are friendly though, and they do know the store.

Just a couple city slickers head up to the snow 2⁄19 for a few days of fun and wouldn’t you know it but our car would not make it up the hill to Granlinbaken Lodge, damn two wheel drive! AAA was no help as far as service goes but they did give us Swigard’s # They generally do not deliver chains but were so kind as to come to our rescue and the nicest man, whose name I can not remeber, came to our aid and brought us some chains and even stuck around to make sure we got em on ok. Totally got our trip back on track and saved the vacation!!! Got to love good people it’s nice to know they still exist.

walked in w/my sister and Yogi the Chihuahua to find a sno-baller for my nephew ( ) and the guy at the counter immediately gave my dog a treat and a few belly rubs(scoring points with me there). then he took us to the place the sno-ballers usually were located and they were all out. SO, this guy said«hey, i have one in my locker here. you can have it. do you want it?» to which my sister said«um, yah! but we don’t want to take YOURS!» and he said«i’d totally give it to you». we were like«damn, this guy’s sweet»(scoring more and more points with us). we asked him if there was any other place in town that had them, and he told us of a place nearby but said if they didn’t have it to come back and he’d give us his. the other place DID have them, but i know the guy was serious, so either way, we would’ve had a sno-baller in our hands that day! 5 stars for not only carrying something like this, but for the over and above customer service! YOUROCK!
