Thank you Alex for your fantastic service and great attitude. We came in as a party of 7 and had a wonderful time. Food was fantastic, and we enjoyed the elegant, rustic atmosphere. Kudos to a job well done!

This was by far the rudest experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The waitress looked at me with contempt the moment my husband and I sat down. I asked some basic questions about the menu(specials, etc.) and she seemed offended. I asked if it was possible to sub the wine that came with the steak for a soda since I don’t drink… she cut me off with a downturned frown and kept saying«no substitutions.» She became uglier second by second. After ordering I must have looked at my husband as if I had been sucker punched and he said, «Do you want to go?» At first I thought about staying and then I decided I would not lay down 1 nickel in an establishment that tries to demean people the way she did. We rarely have a moment free to relax and unwind and how dare she try to steal it from us… just didn’t need the abuse. We. Walked. Out. Shame on them!

Went here after Tough Mudder for a great meal and was not disappointed. Host/guy working the bar was really friendly and accommodating. Love the atmosphere, it reminded me of the movie Goodfellas. Haha Loved the food. Highly recommend the salmon, filet and crab legs.

I must say, Tahoe has the friendliest wait staff of anywhere I’ve ever been. This food at this place is plentiful! The butter lettuce salad and gnocchi were delicious! The steaks were average. The rib eye didn’t have any flavor while the filet had a strange flavor. Mashed taters & Mushrooms were good. Beers cold.

EXCELLENT. And I’ve never found a steakhouse that I’ve thought was excellent until now! This place is absolutely worth a visit. My husband wasn’t hungry for dinner from a big lunch we had earlier but when he saw the prime rib at the table next to us, he was sold. Thickest cut of prime rib for the best price — high quality & cooked perfectly. Everything was delicious, even the warm bread! Caesar Salad was perfect, shrimp cocktail was an added bonus, & I got the braised lamb with gnocchi and it was so good! — fell off the bone & the flavors were unique and delicious. Huge portions! Stiff drinks! Excellent wait staff. Alex was our server and he was so welcoming and accommodating. Everything tastes homemade too. We wish we had this steakhouse in the Bay Area. The ambiance is fun too, dark & oldschool romantic, but with a full bar so great for solo dinners. We will absolutely be back every time we are in town. Thanks for a great experience Alex! Ba

Located in Tahoe Vista across from the lake. And yes almost every seat here is lake view dining. The ambience is old school speak easy style. Dim lights, leather button tuck seating at the bar. The menu is set up as a two course meal. All dinners come with garlic mashed potatoes, the veggies are 9.00 extra. You start off with hot bread and soft butter. I chose a special 3 course meal of petite filet minion, salad and shrimp cocktail, 29.99. My daughter ordered the king crab legs, 54.00 and my son ordered the rib eye at 34.00. Okay. The filet was by far the best I have ever experienced. Dark mushroom gravy and mushrooms surround the petite filet minion. The steak was medium rare, just right. I started to cut it with my knife and realized it was soooooo tender that I put the knife down and cut the filet with my fork… seriously. the steak basically melted in your mouth. The view of the lake at dusk is breathtaking. Couple that view with the perfect meal and… well. I highly recommend Old Range Steakhouse. Be prepared to spend $$$$ for your meal. But you get what you pay for. And worth every penny.

Love this place we seem to end up eating here every time we come up. The filet the lamb and the ribeye all have been very delicious. Their dinner specials are well worth it. They’re a great way to get a full meal.

I was blown away by this exceptional steak house. Everything from my Cosmopolitan cocktail to out peppermint stick ice cream exceeded our every expectation. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Creamed spinach was clearly made with fresh spinach and the sautéed mushrooms were prepared perfectly. Service was spot on. We will definitely be back the next time we come to Tahoe.

Cool restaurant with classic steakhouse interior. The staff is friendly, and the menu has exactly what you’d expect from a steakhouse. I got the king crab legs, while my boyfriend got the *massive* cowboy cut… I mean like, HUGE! Give this place a try if you find yourself in the North Lake Tahoe area.

Our favorite restaurant in Tahoe. Intimate little steakhouse that my wife and I frequent. Prime rib is fantastic. Recommend medium or medium well for prime rib, medium rare for filet. If you go before 6pm M-F, they hace early bird specials for $ 29 that include steak, salad, and potatoes. The warm bread tastes like a cupcake. Try not to fill up on it.

This place was a half mile from our hotel and our last dinner out before leaving after a weeklong ski trip. We skipped going out for New Years Eve and opted for pizza delivery. So to treat ourselves after a very long last day of skiing, we decided on a steak dinner out. From the moment we sat down, my husband was extremely relaxed. No fussy airs, very comfortable booth with a sat and cozy ambience. We had the kids with us, but the little one was what I was really concerned with, as there is no good option for a semi-picky eater. So a slight downgrade for that. I called the morning of for a reservation and didn’t check voicemail until later in the day that«there was an opening for us but no need to call back unless you can’t make it»…I loved that relaxed family-type vibe. Walked in at 5:30 for a 5:45 reservation but they sat us right away. I ordered the buckaroo cut prime rib early bird special that came with a salad and a glass of house burgundy that was smooth and just what the doctor ordered. My husband ordered the cowboy cut with the sautéed mushrooms that were unbelievable! Our son ordered the ribs and counted the bones after each once was picked clean. The mashed potatoes were smooth and not dry, as I had feared. Service was friendly, personable and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It even looked like some locals were enjoying their Friday night, based on the good cheer as several people walked by so I can’t say this is a super-touristy spot. Just good food and service that will make us want to go back again.

I went here with a bunch of friends during a weekend at the lake. The waitress was really nice and the bread was good, but that was about it. I had a chicken dish that was really dry, despite swimming in a pool of butter/oil. All of my friends’ dishes were equally greasy and mediocre. Even though most people had leftovers, nobody found the food appetizing enough to eat later. It was definitely not the higher price tag of the dishes.

So glad we had dinner here on Saturday night. The shrimp coctail, bread and prime rib were all delicious. We also loved the decorating! The fish, the bears, the deer and the Indians. Friendly staff too. We hope to be back someday!

We dined here on August 10, 2015 for an early dinner. We arrived at 545PM without reservations and were greeted and seated right away. The descriptions of the restaurant referring to a 70’s era décor are pretty accurate. However, I found the staff and the décor comfy and inviting. I ordered the buckaroo cut of prime rib and my wife had the ½ rack of sweet and smoky pork ribs. There were many tasty looking options on the menu and pricing was moderate for the area, in my limited experience. I opted for the early bird dinner which included a glass of house burgundy and a house salad. The wine was smooth and tasty and the salad was fresh with crunchy croutons. Note– I was fine with the amount of dressing but if you prefer a light to moderate amount, you would probably want to ask for dressing on the side. Our server was helpful and attentive as well as being sociable. She genuinely seemed to care about us enjoying our meal and she was happy to be there. A welcome and often rare trait these days. My prime rib was very good, a solid four stars. It was accompanied by moist, fluffy mashed potatoes. The pork ribs were also good, but not quite special enough. They were about three and ½ stars. They were also served with mashed potatoes. Overall, this place is definitely worth return visits and more exploring of the menu. I would give them four stars if the ribs had been just a notch better. But, I am certainly looking forward to returning.

Stepping into this restaurant was like being transported back to the 1970’s complete with very dim lighting, kitschy metal decore, and huge vinyl booths. The restaurant boasts magnificent views of Lake Tahoe from a wrap-around window, and during an early evening dinner, the lighting outside really makes the darkness of the restaurant more pronounced. But this is a steak house, not a vista point, so let’s talk food! My party of 4 all ordered cuts of steak and we all agreed that while the steak was cooked very well(medium rare, no other way to eat a steak!), the meat could have used some more seasoning. I had the petite fillet, which comes with a bed of mushroom sauce. I’m really glad I opted to have the sauce on the side because while the sauce itself was tasty and reminiscent of a rich au jus, the mushrooms themselves were WAY too salty. They were, however, delicious eaten with the mashed potatoes. My boyfriend had the Cattlebaron’s cut of ribeeye and it was HUGE! I would wager the darn thing was at least 12 oz. Despite having lovely grill marks, the steak wasn’t well seasoned and needed a little salt to kick it up a notch. The grill marks were also burnt and had to be scraped off the meat. Oh, we also got the carafe of Burgundy which was a great deal had about 6 glasses worth of that vino vino. I spend a lot of weekends in Tahoe and I don’t think I’ll be coming back to this establishment mostly because I don’t think the price was worth the food and view. I’m sure this place gets lots of visitors because of its location on Lake Blvd, but aside from the view and the fact that they serve big hulkin’ slabs of meat, there isn’t that much appeal that could warrant a repeat visit.

I really wanted to take a second and write a review because of our experience here and how it went from worst to best. Several years ago we had a pretty bad experience in which we were seated and promptly ignored for more almost 30 minutes. After numerous pleas were ignored by a waitress that walked by us a dozen times, we finally got up and left. I read the Unilocal reviews and many others had written similar experiences so we decided to write it off even though its within walking distance from our cabin. Last year a friend of ours insisted on trying it, and I am so glad he did! I think the owner must have read the same reviews and the place has really turned around. Even now looking at the reviews I see that others are also having better experiences. Decent service and excellent food! The prime rib is my favorite with excellent flavors and decent portions. A little pricey but over all a great place.

We tried this restaurant last night, and just loved it. I had the short ribs and they were fork tender. Our friends had the chicken and loved it, eat very bit. My husband had the ribs, they were good, but not the very best we have had. The service was excellent, the bread fantastic. The carafe of burgundy for 17 dollars, was enough for all four of us and was very good. Our butter lettuce salad was great, enough for the 4 of us. Would most definitely return. The view of the Tahoe beach across the street was awesome. Great place to try!!! The staff there was fantastic, and you can make reservations. Really neat all pewter plates.
