Ever since the Circle K/McDonald’s closed shop some time ago(was it 2013?), the Gate station is the most proximal, and hence likeliest refueling point for us. It’s consistently clean, and it boasts of its own traffic signal(OK, it does benefit from East Call Street from the other side. That likely had something to do with it). The Air/Vacuum service isn’t consistently operational — but indigents are seldom found shaking down the patrons as they commonly were during the Circle K/McDonald’s heyday across the street — so that’s good. Anyway — if you find yourself low on the gasoline, and sputtering on Magnolia between Park and Mahan, well — just turn on in.

You know I say there is a story for every store. Well, this one is know different. The story on this store is kind of funny but maybe not so funny. Ok you guys can prove this story by walking into the bathroom and go to the urinal. While you are there look up. There is a small nail in the wall right there by the ceiling. I stopped in today on my way out of town. I ran into an old friend and the owner and founder of Gate Petroleum son Hill. We chatted and then walked into the bathroom. We both chuckled and went back to stories of this gate store. It was the first one here in Tally. It is still the old style with light grey FRP on the walls and the red n white graphic. It was one of the first to get a real beer cave with cedar walls and ceiling. The place has been kept up well and it is a gate so it is clean and well stocked. The next time I’m in there I’ll take a picture and show y’all the nail. I have been telling this story for upwards 15 years now.
