As the drunk food of choice for so many FSU students, I thought that I might as well give it a try after a night out. Yet, lying in the fetal position on my bed the next morning with food poisoning did not succeed in winning me over to the charms of Guthrie’s. I only add an extra star as the 2nd time there I somehow did not get food poisoning again from the undercooked chicken. Not a fan.

Lately the prices have gone up, and portion size down – which should never happen. The chicken is one of the best on this side of town, but as a fry lover, theirs fall super flat, and limp. I’ll only get them if I’m headed home and can put them in the oven for a good bit longer to crisp them up.

All hail the guth box! Guthrie’s is the go to spot for a late night fried chicken fix after a night on the town. Late at night it can get pretty chaotic inside. Guthries gets filled with tons of drunk students. It is sometimes quite a show, but it is all worth it when the server calls your name for your freshly prepared guth box. The box comes with about 4 tenders, fries, toast, cold slaw and their famous guthrie’s sauce. Guth sauce can only be described as pure perfection. You have an option to change your cold slaw for extra fries, toast, or sauce which I always do. I usually choose the extra fries and also add an extra sauce for 23 cents. If you’re in for the show sit inside but if you want to just get your chicken and go enjoy it I suggest the drive thru. The line is sometimes long but it goes pretty fast! «You know I like my chicken fried.»

Love this place. The one, the only, the original. Not much variety and that’s the point. You know what you’re getting and it’s good.

Oh, Guthries how I adore you. You’ve been there for me on many late nights and slightly inebriated occasions. It’s almost strange seeing the renovated space clean and remodeled. It’s not quite the same seeing the space not packed to max capacity amidst chaos in the wee hours of the morning. Anyways, on my most recent visit for lunch, I noticed a) increased prices and b) smaller portions. These two things don’t sit well with me for any establishment. One should not affect the other. Regardless, the food is still cheap, around $ 7 and change for a Gut Box. The food was good. However the chicken tenders were significantly smaller than usual and the fries were more cold than hot. There’s never a proper excuse for cold fries. FYI: For those of you that don’t know, a Gut Box consists of four fried chicken tenders, French fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and Gut sauce, and when cooked properly is God’s gift to mankind. I’m honestly conflicted about my rating because I’m a fan, yet I’ve experienced better. Since I’m in the middle of «Yay!» and«Meh,» it appears like I’ll give Guthries three measly stars. However, for any college student who makes Tallahassee their home, Guthries is a right of passage.

If you are looking for chicken fingers this is the place to go. Don’t expect a wide selection. They do pretty much one thing and do it well.

What an awesome surprise to find when stopping off the interstate. The last time I ate at Guthrie’s, I lived in Tuscaloosa, and I didn’t know there were other locations. Now if you want a lot of options, don’t come to Guthrie’s. They do one thing and one thing really well: thick, juicy, beautifully golden-fried chicken fingers. They don’t serve much else besides fries, coleslaw, and Texas toast. I ordered a box with three extra fingers, which was way too much food. You might want to stick with just one extra finger. These are pretty healthy birds. Where you don’t want to skimp is with the sauce. This vinegary nectar of the Gods is the real deal. Tangy, peppery, a little hot, and good enough to slather on everything in sight, from your chicken to your fries, toast, and dinner companion. It’s seriously good stuff. The toast was a bit soggy and chewy, but that’s ok. I just used it to sop the remaining sauce anyway. Went through the drive-thru and had my food in less than five minutes. Enjoyed every bite.

This place is horrible poor customer service food taste like shyt and extremely small chicken fingers. I had nothing but issues. They got my order wrong and when I got home from work and found out I called and was told I would need to bring my food back. They should have taken my name and next time I came in gave me the whole order correctly since they were the ones who made a mistake. I would never recommend this place unless you like FRIEDRATASS!

Don’t get me wrong now, I love guthrie’s. I’ve been eating chicken fingers all my life, and I can say for sure this restaurant serves up some fine golden fried tenders and delicious sauce. But the service is atrocious. Last time I went here, I waited 40 minutes(I timed it) in the drive through before getting to the window, and then at least another ten for my order to arrive. When it did, the staff seemed surly and unhurried. Guthrie’s is famous for its chicken fingers, but notorious for its poor service. Although it pains me to do so, I must give it two stars because of this. While the tenders are divine, it is simply not worth the inevitable wait.

I honestly thought this place was a night club the first time I saw it! It was 2am and the line was wrapped around the building… after living in Tallahassee for a while I realized that Gutheries was just the place to go after a night out. Since I’ve moved I make sure to stop at any Gutheries I run across.:)

Wow. I’m speechless. Actually the worse service. Sat in the drive through for 10 minuets with no response and got our order skipped. Had to call and then get out of the car and go order next to another car.

Really great chicken. Their sauce is essentially equivalent to the second coming of Jesus. However, the service isn’t too hot. They take unreasonable amounts of time to make and serve your order.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had great service here. It was quick and efficient. They have a very small menu and the only thing to really order is the chicken box. However, it’s really, really good and the dipping sauce is great. Nomnomnom. Guthrie’s is a nice change from Chik-fil-A and I definitely think it’s way better than Zaxby’s.

So, this may be a fast food place and may not be the«nicest» place, but their fried chicken is so delicious! I love getting their box set– chicken tenders, toast, cole slaw, and crinkle fries with guthrie’s sauce! It’s so good and better yet, they open until 4am!

I’m really baffled that this place is still in business now that Zaxby’s and Chubby’s are open. The food is mediocre but what REALLY sets this place apart is the absolute worst, SH*TTIEST service on the planet. Look I know your(probably) a college student, and this is not the job you want for life. HOWEVER, customer service is something you learn at these types of jobs and carry on to your future jobs. I’m not asking for you to kiss my butt, but a smile and a thank you is not too much to ask for. If all of this sounds foreign to you, stop by any Chick Fil A in town and watch how they do it.

Why 3 stars? Because yeah it’s good, but the service… oh the service. — — — Guthrie’s on taste alone could be improved to a 4-star experience — a good choice when searching for typical, college-town comfort food that primarily acts as a hangover aid. If I return on my next visit to Tallahassee, it just might be upgraded. However my last trip consisted of painfully slow service. PAINFULLY. Yes, the sole front-of-house employee definitely could have used help… but she was comically slow. I’ve worked retail and I’ve worked in restaurants. When I am the only person working and there’s a line building up, I am overwhelmed with the need to hustle. The girl behind the counter on this day? You would have thought it was a Sunday morning at the beach resort. The least you can do is make it SEEM like you’re trying to go quickly. Am I expecting too much from a fried chicken joint in a college town? Maybe, but I’d be embarrassed to act that lazy in front of a group of people. As for the chicken — it’s pretty tasty, and the sauce definitely lives up to the hype.

Nasty it made me sick.(I probably should just leave it at that!) BUT Since I moved to Tallahassee I’m always hearing about this place. The long lines at night have kept me away for two reasons 1– I have no patience 2-drunk people think everything tastes good. The food was greasy. Not regular take out greasy(I’ll be doing 30 extra minutes at the gym) but just old greasy. Like — I think the oil used to cook the food is older then me. Coleslaw sucked. That sauce looked like ketchup and oily mayo. *Why did I keep that?* I skipped breakfast, skipped lunch, and by 6 my stomach was attacking from the inside. After it calmed down, I looked at the remains and new it was gonna be a long night. I guess this is a great way to get alcohol out of your system. So if I ever decide to start binge drinking I’ll try this again.

Worst Guthrie’s ever. I remembered Guthrie’s original location as a great meal that I experienced during college. But only now I learned that eating away from the restaurant was a virtual requirement. This place is disgusting with bad service and bad food, even for fried chicken! Never again.
