Overall impression: the perfect student dive bar and better alternative to the rest of the Strip. Specifics: If you are one like me that grew out of the desire to spend every Friday night at the Strip or Bull’s, Poor Paul’s is there to welcome you with open arms. With the feel of a dive bar and all the history that comes with it, Poor Paul’s has an awesome drink menu to match it, featuring both the run of the mill beers as well as some tastier favorites of mine. What really makes it stand out though are the drink specials and Poor Paul’s cash up for the taking. On Thursdays and Saturdays, graduate students can get a free drink and wash away the struggles of another week of classes. And, in addition, you can try for Poor Paul’s cash by simply buying one of the draft beers and spinning the wheel. For those of us unable to shell out $ 50 for a night out at the club, it makes for the perfect hangout spot for the student on a budget!

Okay, seriously one of the best bars I went to in Tallahassee. I felt like I was in an episode of Supernatural or something. Smoky environment, inappropriate signs, rough bartenders, cheap beer and oh, free pizza. If I ever go out, it’s going to be after nine o clock on a Sunday night to Poor Pauls. They have sweet deals every night! If you need a chill place to put your feet up, carve in the tables(despite all the hilarious warning signs against it), play pool or even Cards Against Humanity, this is the place to do it.

This place is great! It is the perfect local’s dive bar. Poor Paul’s has great drink specials and friendly bartenders. It’s ideal for a relaxed easygoing atmosphere. There are wide variety of people from college kids to grandpas. Oh, they have games!!! Thanks Joel, Jeff, Woody, Pony, Jeremy, Ben, Brittany and Jeff for great drinks and the best time!

Poor Paul’s is slowly but surely becoming my favorite spot in town. After frequenting some of the bars around town, I have come to the conclusion that Poor Paul’s is the best Dive Bar in Tallahassee. With nightly drinks specials and free pool from 3 to 7, it is a great place to go and unwind after a long day at work. I have also noticed that while it is located right next to Bullwinkle’s on W Tennessee, it doesn’t seem like many college students know about Poor Paul’s. And if they do know about it, they are too interested in their AYCD whiskey sours to give it a shot. Poor Paul’s has their famous wheel where, depending on the night, you can spin for a chance to pay as little as $.50 for a beer! The bartenders are all very nice and take an interest in their customers. Pool is $ 1.25(Free 3−7pm EVERYDAY). I have never played darts there but they have more than enough dart boards to go around. Just a great Dive Bar altogether. P. S. Poor Paul’s also has a Ms. Pacman/Galaga arcade machine right by the entrance!

The air is utterly unbreathable because of the low ceilings, poor ventilation, and legions of cigarette smokers in there. Otherwise, I love this bar! I’ve been going here for over ten years for the free pizza on Sunday and Monday nights and trivia by Dawn on Thursday nights. Costume contests on Halloween, too! There’s always a fun time to be had at PP’s!

A real dive bar. This was THE spot for my friends and I in college, and for years after. Whenever I visit town, there are still a few older bartenders that remember me — it is like going home. If the bartenders are rude, there is a good chance there is a reason for it. Tip, don’t be a pain, and you won’t have a problem.

Hands down my favorite dive in Tallahassee! You can’t beat the prices and everyday there has a different deal. I love all the bartenders(they are the perfect combination of salty and sweet) and the clientele is the perfect combination of all the demographics tally has to offer. I’m a moderately skilled dart player and their steel tip boards are the best in town to play on! Between trivia, bar games, board games, friends and booze you really can’t fail. I will keep drinking at this place until my liver gives!

This is a dive bar, not a hipster bar. Cheap drinks, retro(as in they have not really changed the place in 30 years) vibe, friendly staff, and a great place to hang with friends.

hmmmm. dive bar? where are the hipsters, the pbr, the gluten free beer options… just another dirty bar with college kids and bartenders that treat u as though u want to rob their frankincense and mer.

This place is a dive. Its alright though. Grab a pitcher with friends, play darts, or cards against humanity(personal favorite). Probably the best dive around fsu campus.

Classic Tallahassee dive bar. This is not the scene for those seeking chic scenery joints, but the local darts, pool, and friends Mecca. Plenty of seating at bar as well as several booths. Four dart boards(steal tip) and four pool tables make for a fun night of gaming. Can get a bit smokey, but thank god this place hasn’t changed in over 30 years. They’ve added several TV’s as well, so you can catch games or news here too.

If you’re looking for a some sort of bar where the cocktails are«artisan» or fancy, this isn’t the bar for you. This bar is like the cheers you always wanted in your life. The bartenders are friendly and sarcastic. They know your name and drink and will always hook you up. Fantastic jukebox, great people watching, and the best happy hour specials in town. Free pool during happy hour and the famous wheel of beer. Spin for your price! Lots of character and free board games. Chips and salsa during happy hour and a variety of snacks. Trivia nights and free pizza on sunday and monday. Huge selection of whatever poison you’re looking for. Dollar jello shots are always around. I have never felt so at home in this bar. I wouldn’t even dream of going anywhere else. Smoking inside is allowed and encouraged. But despite this, it’s not at all smoky. Huge and roomy so bring a friend! You’re truly missing out on the fun if you don’t come here. Forget bullwinkles and come here where there is never a cover charge. Just don’t forget your ID!

I’m happy to see Pour Paul’s as highly ranked as it is here. It’s truly a snapshot of Tallahassee 30+ years ago. With ZERO change noticeable since my first visit back in 1987, Pour Paul’s offers a dive-bar experience with four pool tables, six(I think) dart boards, one of only three truly fantastic juke boxes in town, and a change to win big on the«pick a color» spinning wheel! Well past me are the fast days when I would come to such a place regularly — but when I have in the recent years past, it was as though time stood still. Free pizza night was alive and well. The booths lining the entrance and ultimately wrapping around, curving back past the pool tables were all still filled with the characters of yesteryear(the fresh faces, the weathered, the pre– and post– rebelling crowd, the«here for the duration lot, the occasional bellicose but the more than regular peace/funny lover types — and the emerging«tormented intelligentsia» type — all here. Thanks for the memories, Pour Paul’s!

Poor Paul’s, is one of the greatest tallahassee dive bars. Not only do they have great drink specials but they offer free pizza on Sundays and Mondays. The best part of this bar is the relaxed vibe and inexpensive drinks. The bartenders sense of humor and friendliness is also a plus.

Favorite bar in the USA. Steel tip darts, pool tables, pin ball machines, a juke box. Oh, and beer… was cash only for years but they have«modernized» and now accept plastic as well.

Definitely my favorite dive bar in Tallahassee. I love their great happy hour specials and the variety of games such as cards, trivia, darts and pool. Any day 3 to 7 they have free pool which is a plus. Also it is hard to pass up Sunday and Monday nights when they serve free pizza from gumbys!

Ummm, I love it! When I was heading out there to Poor Pauls, I was really afraid that it was going to be some stupid college bar where there are frat boys chugging beer and doing stupid things. Well, I didn’t see that, but I saw an eclectic group out enjoying their night. Very divey, which is definitely my favorite type of bars. It almost feels as though you’re in an underground basement bar with the whole set up of pool tables, booths, and dart boards. Each pitcher that you purchase, you get a spin on the wheel, which the prizes include Poor Paul cash. Or something of the sort. My friend bought drinks not me. But you can use your PP cash with more drinks. Thumbs up, man.

The only bad thing I really have to say is that the parking situation in the area is abysmal due to being on the Tennessee strip and next to other, louder establishments. I am not a barfly, and was pleasantly surprised by the bearable level of cigarette smoke and particularly the special they apparently run with some frequency of $ 2.50 top shelf liquor drinks. Digital jukebox, a handful of pool tables, and free darts all make for a bit of activity if you don’t want to sit and talk. Speaking of talking, I was here late on a Friday night and could actually TALK! Yes, there was music and also the televisions were showing athletic events, but none of it was unbearably loud as you get at a place charging cover and blaring terrible cover band music. Speaking of which, NOCOVER! It’s painted on the building, so I’m assuming that is always the case. I also really appreciated this place being 21 and up. No armband or other crap. Just check ID at the door and you are in. Parking is terrible and Bullwinkle’s is next door, so do keep that in mind. In short, for this none boozehound, Poor Paul’s made a positive impression on me and if I am looking for a spot to go out with some friends, knock back a few, and chat or watch a ballgame, this place will definitely be in the running. Editing my review to say that I see others complaining about the bartenders. Maybe I just got lucky, but all the workers were very polite and professional with me.

It’s an ok little bar. They have a lot of special nights that allow for cheap drinking, like ladies night where I think the draft beer is 1 $. The best nights are Sunday and Monday night, though. They give out free pizza from Gumby’s and it’s a mad grab for the slices. Every pizza slave for themselves, suckers.
