I got the carnitas taco. It was simple and delicious. The meat with abundant and flavorful. The chips were meh, but so are the chips at most places in Tallahassee. They could work on having cold water available.

I really enjoyed my Tacos Al Pastor, as well as the Chorizo-Queso. The young women who took our order seemed to be unfamiliar with the computer system, but otherwise the service was quite good and speedy. I think the food here is better than any other taco-centric restaurant that I’ve been to in Tallahassee.

Up front: the Mexico City Sirloin Tacos are VERY good. The wife says the Popeye(she’s vegetarian) is just ok. I look at it. It appears as she suggests. The young ladies behind the counter today are doing the best with what they have — which doesn’t appear to be a lot(at least when it comes to refreshments). Both are upbeat and positive. The assembler was intently holding the ingredients list in her left hand while constructing the tacos and burritos in the right. Tell tale sign of limited hours on the job. We all have to start sometime! We came with three kids so Sprite was a welcome sight however there was only one bottle left.(No fountain service here). Wife is all about Unsweet tea. That’s not here either. Ok… How about water? Yes — there’s a tepid lime-water urn at counter’s end. Ice? Nope. A/C? Very unlikely. For the gringo palate, this all spells disaster. And, as we are«North of the border», 80% of my five-top is having a hard time with this. Naturally, I have to drop this down a bit(I’d go down to 3 stars, but I know this MUST be a fluke). Seriously, we need to focus on the whole package here. What’s more, with everyone opining on all things food related these days, it’s risky to have so many negatives in your corner — especially when they’re easily avoidable. We ordered 2 large quesadillas, the Popeye, and the Mexico City Sirloin Tacos. Pico and Guac’ to boot. Really — this could have all been avoided had ice been available. What restaurant doesn’t offer ice?

I ate here once before and loved the food and experience. I am not saying that today. We live in Florida – and its hot a lot of the year. The food is inherently spicy, and with proper doctoring, hot. I ordered my meal and a tea. Today, there was no tea whatsoever. Oops, standard staple drink choice that could easily be prepared, but okay. Mistakes happen. Okay, I’ll take a Sprite. Too bad there are five in my group and – oops – only one Sprite left on the premises, but oops – no ice. We Americans like and are accustomed to our ice. So one of us in my group gets the hot Sprite and the rest of us get little Styrofoam cups which we are to use to help ourselves to some room temp«lime water» in a countertop dispenser. It tastes like stagnant pond water. I don’t care how good the food is. It’s hot outside; it’s hot inside; and the food’s hot. I will not be back for lack of any help in the beverage dept.

I have not found anything on their menu that I did not love. The staff is always friendly and appears to enjoy working there. The food is always fresh, they do have some beers available at a decent price. If you walk in hungry you will leave well satisfied. You may also call in orders for pick up, I do that sometimes to avoid having to wait in line during peak times.

Aw man! Taco Libre! So. Damn. Good. I went there DAY1 it opened up, got the Carolina Taco(with the white sauce) and never looked back. The place may not look fancy but the flavors are strong with this one(with solid prices)! My friends are a fan of the burritos and their delicious rice. Although I’ve tried most things on the menu(if not all), I just feel weird not getting the Carolina Tacos. Just… trust me.

Greatest tacos in town. Taking away one star because they are not open on Sunday’s. You have betrayed me, Taco Libre. Where am I supposed to get tacos right now???

I wanted to like this place, but just couldn’t. First it was a dive and they were out of the beer I wanted. Second the kitchen was disgusting and in need of a good cleaning. I had ordered buffalo chicken tacos, which were so smothered in sauce I couldn’t taste anything else. I also ordered the pollo loco tacos which also fell flat. Overall I give it a D I will not be returning. If you’re looking for tacos, try a Mexican restaurant, tacospeak, or taco republik. I really wanted to like this place too when I was going in after seeing such great reviews

These tacos are probably some of the best in tally. The food does not disappoint. Atmosphere could have been better but food makes up for it. Would probably just get take out next time. I hope the Kendrick Lamar tacos become permanent because that was 10⁄10.

So some might think my next words are blasphemy but I have to say it. SOOOOMUCHBETTERTHANCHIPOTLEANDMOES. I am always skeptical about Mexican places like this but it was late at night and my friend and I were craving it. I ordered the build your own burrito. Similar prices to the aforementioned places. It was about $ 9 for the burrito and it came with chips and salsa. I got almost all the toppings that were offered but my favorite was the mango slaw. It was refreshing and really made the burrito taste phenomenal. Love this place!

This restaurant is the best in town. I wish more people knew about it. I was recommended by a friend and haven’t been able to stop coming since. I would recommend the tator tot nachos and the California burrito. Also, on the secret menu is a double decker taco and it’s amazing!

So, Stefanie wanted Mexican for lunch — specifically tacos — but Chuy’s is still 10 weeks from opening. What to do? Then I remembered recs from friends Mike Bonfanti and Diane Nichols Richerson for Taco Libre, a small locally owned place in the Winn Dixie shopping center on Tharpe near High Road. Sold. And impressed. Guided by proprietor Keith Hernandez, she ordered the Carnitas Tacos, soft flour tortillas filled with slow-cooked Mexican shredded pork. I went for Fried Shrimp tacos with a «boom-boom» sauce, lots of chopped lettuce and tomato sided with an incredible avocado-cilantro salsa. Both were excellent(especially my overflowing shrimp tacos). But the crown jewel was their Chori-Queso — a really good, thick cheese dipping sauce with a layer of oniony Mexican chorizo and cilantro. We were scraping the bottom of the styrofoam cup for the last bits. We also enjoyed their home-made, coarsely chopped guacamole and washed it all down with a Negra Modelo and a wonderful light Mexican-style blond ale on tap(with several others) from 5 Rabbit Cerveceria, a craft brewery in Chicago. Another hidden gem and happy, home-grown discovery.

I’ve been to Taco Libre a hand full of times and I’m only now reviewing it. Taco Libre opened up around a year ish or so and has done an amazing job of capturing the essence of tacos. The management is awesome and extremely accommodating. The first time I came in I had no idea what I wanted to get and decided on building my own burrito. Best decision ever. Now this time I came in I decided to order the Carolina Tacos and the Breakfast Taco(a new special that was unveiled today) and I can say that this was one of the best if not THE best taco I have ever had. The pulled pork on the Carolina was extremely sweet and tender and the breakfast taco was just as good. Definitely stop by and get some tacos and a beer when you get the chance!

After reading all the reviews for this place, I had to give them a try. I was getting tired of Chipotle. I walked in and a few people greeted me which made me feel welcomed. I built my own burrito with steak, rice, black beans, pico, sour cream and cheese. I enjoyed my burrito when I got home. It was still very warm. The onions in the pico were pretty strong so it kind of messed up my burrito, so I decided to go back and not get the pico. My burrito was amazing! Full of flavor. I enjoyed the side of salsa with the chips. It wasn’t too spicy, it was homemade and delicious. I will be back, I’ll pass on Chipotle for a while.

This was my first time here, but my wife comes all the time and convinced to have lunch with her here. I had their Surf and Turf burrito and it was different but a good different. Inside the burrito was steak and battered fried shrimp and it was really good. The burrito was well put together and had great portions of everything without being overbearing. All in all, I will be back!

Absolute love there food and it’s affordable. They have this Ranch sauce that I can’t get enough off when they first open I went several days in a row. Went today at 4 and I’ll be having it again around 8. I can’t get enough.

I’m pretty torn about my review. This place has a lot of potential and I love supporting local businesses. The menu options are fantastic and original. They also do an amazing job of cooking their meats. Way better than what you can find at any chain restaurant. Something chain restaurants have that they don’t is better salsa. Their salsas have no kick and they’re pretty skimpy with it. Also, if you order a salad, they do not offer dressing. Otherwise, there are some amazing gems on their menu and the service is great!

Well, maybe it’s the rain that have dampened my spirits some or maybe it’s the disillusionment at my disappointment. Had dinner with a group tonight with an array of dishes and most fell short of the mark. The burrito bowl looks like it gives the Chipotles and the Moes a run for their money but the rice is bland, the beans overlooked, and the chicken chewy. The breakfast burritos improperly constructed left one with a bite of ill distributed goods. A bite of beans with no other toppings, a bite of sour cream… it just leaves you feeling like a bad mash up(like maybe you should’ve stuck it out with the tried and true). The tacos. Always get the tacos. Service is still good and drinks appropriately priced. I bet you a taco the more you drink the better it all tastes.

Tacooooo… Get it? Whatever. Let’s discuss Tallahassee’s brand spanking new taco joint that leaves casual customers and foodies alike satisfied. Welcome to flavor town. All food is made to order and cooked directly before your eyes. I had the mouth watering Mexican fried chicken tacos, prepared«libre style,» which means they were smothered in creamy queso and topped with the freshest pico de gallo I’ve ever consumed. These aren’t your cookie cutter tacos, folks. Additionally, a quality selection of gourmet salsas are essential to enjoy with the side of tortilla chips. As far as the service, the cooks behind the counter were pleasant, knowledgeable and personable. I can’t wait to try the pulled pork tater tots paired with a local on tap beer during my next visit. It’s hard to remember what life was like in Florida’s capital city before the revolutionary Taco Libre, but we can save that for another time.
