Very good food very authentic very much like being in grandma’s kitchen so if you have a Spanish grandmother or are into authentic Spanish fair this place is it but don’t expect anything fancy it’s a very small little place in the middle of a public shopping center if you blink you miss it to have your GPS on and get ready for some good food they do have a buffet as well a little mini buffet that you can order from the lady and she prepares it for you its not all you can eat but its very inexpensive enjoy salud

Its so HARD to find a good Dominican restaurant in or near sunrise. Found this place by mistake and I’m obsessed. I have yet to have anything that didn’t taste good from here and the prices are great!

I came in for their Mofongo, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve never had it before, so I don’t have a point of comparison, but it was really tasty. I still prefer the mangu(plain mashed plantains) I had it with pollo a la plancha, which was really good. I’ve never been to a Dominican Restaurant, but I can tell these were real Dominicans running the place. Very relaxed(borderline on indifference) and of course a large party broke out the Dominoes. Those who are familiar with the the Dominican culture will know what I’m talking about… It ain’t no stereotype. The place looked clean, our waitress was cordial, but she seemed to be the only one working, she was waitressing, running the register, taking phone orders, packaging them etc, so we had to wait for her quite a bit, she did good though, again, this is a very casual and relaxed place. 3 stars only because I came on a slow night and didn’t get the full experience. Their food didn’t wow me, but it was good, and very inexpensive. I’d come back, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get here.

I am Dominican, so my wife suggested trying out this local restaurant to try a bit of my country’s food. The place was clean, the prices were good, the portions large, and the flavors were good. The only drawback was that the person helping us, as nice as she was, was just too busy. Other than that i really enjoy it and would definitely ho back to try other dishes.

I’m married to a Dominican so it’s hard to find good Dominican restaurant when comparing to home cooking but this place is amazing! It was excellent no exaggeration. Also family owned & operated which I highly support

It has potential. I will come back as long as they read these reviews and make fix the small details that need tightening.

Really delicious food and friendly service. I’m assuming it is pretty authentic, but I am not Dominican nor have I ever had Dominican food. My boyfriend is half Dominican and he said it was pretty close to what he used to eat growing up. I had a skirt steak, which came with a salad and tostones, and my boyfriend got the chicken breast mofongo. He and I switched tostones for mofongo but we’re both very happy with our dishes. With two soda cans, the total was $ 23 plus tip. Great prices for homemade ethnic food. The waitress spoke mainly Spanish and a little English, but she was very hospitable. Will return!

Came on a whim because we wanted Latin food. Place is just ok nothing fancy. More for a casual meal than a special occasion. Prices are very reasonable based on the menu. It was not crowded at all but it took a while to get our food. First impressions on the food was that they are a nice portion. We got the steak, chicken mofongo and chicken breast plates. All were made well and we left happy. In summary good food for the price, took a little long to get it and décor and ambience casual…

Best Mofongo I’ve ever had here in the states. When the Mofongo is good, everything is usually good… and it was delicious! I mean, layers of flavors and tons of seasoning. I can’t believe we just found this place. The menu is in both Spanish and English so no worries about not knowing what something is if you don’t want to ask. Go try some Dominican food! I had the Steak with onions served with Seasoned Rice/Arroz con Gandules. Hubby had Stew Goat served with white rice and beans. For those who don’t know, the beans are pink beans that have been stewed in a deliciously seasoned tomato based sauce. You put them right over the rice. We also added a side order of Tostones… Hubby said that he liked these better than most places because they were smaller, had more flavor and were crunchy without being hard. Service was exactly what I hoped for. A smiling, welcoming person that was obviously proud and confident in everything they served… described everything in detail when we had questions. It’s a cute place– cozy atmosphere with music playing.

I was craving Dominican food and was excited to find this place on Unilocal. The vibe here is lively. It seems to be a local favorite where families visit. The staff spoke some English, enough for me to place my order. I did a carry out lunch of ox tails, beans and rice for less than $ 10. It was plenty of food! And super delicious. Great flavor and texture! I was told they hold a weekly karaōke night. Next time I’m hungry for Dominican food, I’ll make sure to swing by and dine in. Maybe I’ll sing too!

The food here is awesome so tasty and filling the prices are so reasonable for the amount of food you get, I could barely finish I was so full. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is traditional and cooked to perfection, and those sweet plantains… Mmmmmmm

It was time for another culinary adventure, so we brought out the Unilocal ap and started searching. This is where we landed. Up until I started Unilocaling, I had thought that mofongo was a Clark Gable movie. The older crowd will get this, the younger group not so much. However I have now seen the light at the end of the plantain jungle. Luckily for me, I like plantains. I’m a carb person and plantains are one of my favorites. So, when I looked up «mofongo,» I knew I had to try it. That it just happened to be the specialty at this little hidden restaurant was a nice bonus. Pollo El Cojido is a small restaurant hidden in a Tamarac shopping strip. As you walk in, you will already hear the music before you get in the building. There are two big flags in the window, the American flag and the flag of the Domenican Republic. This generally strikes me as a sign that I’m probably going to get some authentic food. The atmosphere is very pleasant. There are only about a dozen booths and tables. They have white tablecloths covered by plastic and artificial flowers. The music is pleasant, but is all in Spanish. There is a large TV, tuned to a Spanish speaking channel. We were pleasantly shown to a booth. It took about 5 min. or more to get our menus and even longer to take the drink orders. After we got our drinks, the waitress took our orders. The problem was that her English wasn’t very much better than my Spanish, which is limited to menus. We had to point to what we wanted and then she asked me a couple of questions that I really didn’t understand. I just did the American thing and nodded my head, hoping to get the right entrée. While the service is very friendly, this isn’t the place if you’re in a hurry. We were there for 40 min. before our food arrived. There were only about 8 other people there, so it wasn’t like they were overwhelmed. Then started the«Up» part of the night. The food was REALLY good! I had ordered the grilled chicken with my mofongo and that’s what I got. Two(not just one) flattened breasts, perfectly cooked to tenderness. They were bathing in a lovely sauce of broth, garlic and herbs. Next to them was a large serving of mofongo — mashed plantains with garlic and pork. I think this must be the equivalent of island comfort food. It had a consistency similar to a heavy mashed potato dish with the addition of the pork. I loved it from the first bite. The servings were easily large enough to make two meals(which is always a plus for us) at a reasonable price. While I’m not a fan of the service, the food was spot on. We’ll definitely be going back. So, enjoy your mofongo and tell them Unilocal sent you!
