Despicable vultures who abuse the law so they can SCAM people. They are good at it too! F rating from BBB also. I read the same scams there that I write about below.
My vehicle was towed by them. No knock, even though i was at home. If they had knocked, this entire thing would have been avoided. But if they knock, they know they don’t get any money!
I call my bank, they realize the mistake and give me AIR’s number and address, and tell me there is no cost — no matter what. I call, and the stern authoritarian scam from AIR begins: I must pay a fee to pick up the vehicle. And my vehicle isn’t at that address, the actual lot is secret (posted at the end) and will only be revealed after I pay. Extremely rude and unprofessional. I call my bank back, they promise there is no fee, the bank will pay AIR’s fee. This goes back and forth over a few calls, AIR rarely answers on the first call, but almost always the second (coincidence?). I give AIR the phone number and name of my Rep at the bank (bank’s idea). The supervisor at AIR responds by screaming at me on the phone that ‘he doesn’t give a **** if my bank pays, they have the right under FL law to charge me or else no car and each day is more storage fees’. This was a Thursday. My bank isn’t able to get AIR to comprehend that there is no fee for 4 more days.
When I call on Monday and ask for the address they tell me I have to make an «appointment» the next morning, and it can only be made the SAME DAY. If for some reason I cancel the appointment, I can’t make another that day. She puts me through to the «appointments line» and it’s a recorded voice reading out the address, one time, no warning! It’s purposely designed so that you’ll miss it, and maybe the confusion means they get more storage fees. There is no reason the woman on the phone couldn’t just read the address.
When I go to pick up my vehicle, I got a callbox. After a 30 minute wait, they take me in, my vehicle is already pulled around engine running, and they tell me to sign forms, rush rush fast fast. Of course the forms are boilerplate, many many pages, that release them from any liability for anything, that I agree to never sue, my first born child, etc. I tell them I won’t sign that I’m not going to sue, that they can’t make me sign that to get my vehicle since ZERO $$ is owed to them. They have to release my vehicle. The other form is the vehicle inventory, and considering that my license plate is off my vehicle and that I haven’t been within 10 feet of the inside, I can’t agree that the inventory is correct. They tell me to look over my truck, but to hurry up because my «appointment» is over. I walk to my vehicle when the manager comes over, asks me what I ‘think I’m doing’, and tells me I have to sign the forms now. That I cannot have a copy of what I’m signing. I call my bank to explain the situation — the AIR manager becomes hyper-​aggressive (I thought he was going to charge me) and screams that I have to get off the lot. So I (literally) run off.
More calls, another «appointment», a few more days gone by, I’m back at the lot. Wait to be buzzed in, my friend is with me because I wanted a witness in case the guy got out of hand again. They won’t allow her in, just me. I instantly look for my registration, glove box is empty. I need this for lawful operation of the vehicle. I ask them where it is, they tell me it’s not their problem, that I can’t search for it and must leave now or else I’ll be kicked out. My key fob is broken (missing a button), and they created a new key (the regular kind that costs $ 1.99 at Home Depot) and charged the bank over $ 150 for it. Plus hundreds in misc. storage and towing fees.
To top it off, a few days later my friends mother gets a letter in the mail from AIR addressed to me. I’d never lived at this address, or even been there. It’s the notice that the state requires them to give under FL law that the vehicle has been towed, by who, and how to get it back! LOL. They didn’t mail it to the address they towed from, or the one on file with my bank, or drivers license lol. They «investigated» and came up with a BS address that they could later claim was connected to me. Very purposeful attempt by them to raise the odds that vehicle is never reclaimed and skirt the law.
Anyways, the bottom line with these folks is that they have obviously been scamming people for a long enough time that they have con games at EVERY step of the way. Be ready. Oh and the «secret» location is 5006 20^th Ave S, Tampa FL.
