I really don’t know what to say Just not the same at all ! My girlfriend’s Dad ordered the cowgirl med rare the cook was fine but the steak was so tuff he couldn’t even cut it After getting another knife and giving it another go still no luck So we asked for the server she takes it back and returns a few minutes later with the same steak She placed it back in front of him and tells him that the«chef said to just eat the center of it «You have to be kidding right Oh no after sitting there for a second he tells her to just keep it At least BK does it my way Needless to say we will never be back !

What the heck happened to this place??? 10 years ago it was da-bomb! Always packed with patrons and they had the best steaks period, yes it was a bit of a dump but the food was out of this world. Today we went to celebrate my daughters accomplishment and had truly the worst meal. My one child had burger that resembled a frozen hockey puck that had been thawed and cooked to death. The rest of us ate steaks. I had a cowgirl steak and my husband had a sirloin, both were chewy, tough, poor quality, overcooked and over salted. My husbands sweet potato was completely undercooked and inedible. My other child ordered a $ 15 steak… Hers was about ¼″ thick, overcooked, under seasoned and had so much grizzle she couldn’t eat it. So, she nibbled on cold french fries. Our steaks ranged in price for $ 15-$ 30 each and our bill came to about $ 100 for three steaks, and a burger, 3 waters and a sweet tea. Both my husband and I were so sick that we hardly made it home. Its truly sad that such a wonderful mom & pops place has gone downhill. We were really looking forward to eating at this place and drove almost 1 hour each way. We will never ever return. The only positive thing I can write is that out waitress was pleasant.

Don’t let the exterior fool you, or the fact that it may not be busy. This place has great steaks at reasonable prices. Nothing fancy about this place, and it looks like it’s still 1975, but the food and service were both great! I’m glad I took the advice of other Unilocal reviewers and gave this place a chance! If I’m ever back in the area I would return and I would ask for Misty, a down home gal who knows how to provide excellent service!

This was at one point a 5 star joint in my opinion! It has changed ownership it seems like a lot over the decade. It is your local steakhouse when you do not want a chain steakhouse which is my favorite type! They used to have a guy come in and play music at least 15yrs ago and it was nice. Their cuts of meat were always mouth watering! I mean they have cows in the damn pasture right next to the place. You can wave to what will soon be on your plate! I did try the 6lb challenge here! Ya I got about 4lbs down. So I fell way short. However i did have left overs for the next week. Their steak has always been cooked perfectly for me. The Cowboy is usually what I get. The last few times though I have not been as happy with it as I have in the past. It has been a long while so I am due back real soon. I hope it can put the huge smile on my face it once did!

My coworkers and myself pulled up to this restaurant on a Wednesday evening and there were about 2 cars in the huge parking lot. We got seated and noticed how big the restaurant is. The server was courteous. Food came out quickly. It was decent but had a little too much seasoning on the vegetables. Nothing special about this place but the 6lb steak which none of us ordered.

Was hoping for the kind of experience I had from eating here many years ago. On a Friday night 7pm the place was almost empty. We were acknowledged after standing at the hostess station for a few minutes with«How many?», no smile. The next surprise was the prices! It was priced like an upscale steakhouse. It’s outdated with low ceilings like a mobile home, even smells old. I was hoping to overlook the initial disappointment by being served great food by a great server. Not so, chose the cheaper menu items: $ 17 Chopped Sirloin with a buttery sweet potato and a wilted salad. My wife had a $ 20 top sirloin with a baked potato that had black rotted spots, the top sirloin was dry. The most unnerving experience were the poor servers sprinting around the dining area and thru the kitchen doors so fast that I was sure there would be a collision. I’ve never seen servers work at such a non-stop feverish pace, makes for a very uncomfortable experience. We only mentioned the dry steak when we were asked at the end, but no apology or concern expressed. Being old, overpriced and having lackluster service gives us no reason to want to come back.

Definitely an old school steak house. The décor is a throwback to the 1970s. It a spacious dining room and you can definitely have a nice quiet conversation here. The wait staff is very accommodating, extremely helpful and prompt. I just really wish the food matched the prices. I had the 14oz Ribeye, and while it was not a bad steak, it wasn’t a $ 27 steak. Slightly over cooked for my liking and just lacked a good beef steak flavor(that goodness for A1 sauce). I ordered sautéed mushrooms with my steak too, what I got appeared and tasted like canned mushrooms that spent a minute in some type of flavorless oil, not cooked long enough to bring out that flavor you’re looking for in sautéed mushrooms. My wife had the half rack of ribs. They were good but not great, a bit in the fatty side. All in all, not a bad experience, but not a $ 65 dinner. LongHorn Steakhouse is better and I’ve discussed my issues with them previously. I’ll go back again, but only if it’s someone’s birthday and they insist.

I ordered the filet and veggies. The meat has the best smokey flavor! It’s a down home restaurant with minimal frills but wonderful southern food!

Was in the area and stop in first time in 20 years. Still ad I remembered steaks are very tasty and service is very good. The only thing I can say that they might improve on would be the choice of salad dressings maybe something to make them more original to the region. Possibly a citrus type to compliment the steaks being cooked over the Orange wood.

$$$$. Ordered cheapest, smallest steak on menu 7 oz for $ 17 received wilted house salad one warm dinner roll and a bake potatoes. Anything else like mushroom or Onions are extra. Unsweetened ice tea came like water so I sent it back for water. No sense paying for tea. Someone else at other table said the same thing. Food came fast. Steak was great Bake potato came with a yellowish butter like stuff on it even as it was ordered on the side as I do butter only. But as I said the steak was very good. Nice smokey flavor. I would give the steaks 5 stars if rest was better.

We just got back from there, this is my first time writing a review. The service here was terrible, we got there around 7 pm and waited to be seated for more than 10 minutes there was no greeter there,(since it’s getting late so we decided to wait.) after seated it took about 15 mins until somebody to come take order, after ordered we waited more than 30 mins for food! The only time that fast was when i asked for bill! That was my first time and last time here. By the way the food was ok. Nothing fancy.

Great steaks, perfectly cooked! Vegetable medley was a bit soft, but a good mix of vegetables; besides, it’s a steakhouse not a vegetable house. I had the ribeye, covered in butter and sauteed mushrooms. Dinner came with a salad and some delicious, crusty rolls. Baked potato was also perfectly done. I’ll definitely come back again on my next Tampa trip. I forgot to take a picture because I was too busy devouring my steak!

Today was my birthday we had a party of 14. The waiter was a great young guy. However, this management is HORRIFIC. We were served improperly cooked steaks. And then ridiculed by the owner when we requested it corrected. We were spoke to condescendingly when we told the owner that it was incorrect. In this place the customer was never right. They served me a sirloin and insisted it was a ribeye as if I was a moron and did not know the difference. We had our steaks taken back to be cooked to a medium rare after being served a well-done steak only to be sarcastically given a refrigerator cold so called medium rare steak that was basically placed on the grill for 2 – 3 minutes just to color the outside of the steak. This owner was argumentative and sat and smiled in my face as she shook her head no to everything I said. They served us a sweet potato with butter, sour cream and bacon because my husband said loaded. Which in Sweet potato land means butter, cinnamon and Brown sugar the answer from the owner was people eat sweet potatos that way simply to justify their wrong and not agree that they screwed up. The baked potato was hard in the middle. So through all this they never offered to discount our meal or accept accountability for their crappy food and piss poor management\owners. They ruined my birthday dinner. In my opinion to be spoken to with the level of sarcasm we were tonight and just plain lack of consideration for the customer is the worst thing an establishment can do. Because your food can be amazing(BUTITWASNASTY) but when you try and rip people off by serving them sirloins and claiming they are ribeyes and treat your customers like idiots you basically write your restaurant a ticket to bankruptcy because I will make it my goal to post a review on every social site there is so others avoid this catastrophe called a steakhouse. Its dirty, run down, tacky poorly decorated and just quite honestly disgusting in every capacity. And if I were not a true lady this owner woman from Argentina would have gotten some not lady like words from me, but i maintained my composure. Trust me DOYOURSELF A FAVORANDDONOTEATHERE. #BIRTHDAYDINNERFROMHELL #DIRTYDINING #POORMANAGEMENT

This place didn’t look like much from the sign advertising it on 301, but I’m really happy that I went here. The prices are reasonable, the steak was absolutely fantastic, and the staff was nice. The dinner comes with a salad and bread as well as a side, so portions quickly fill you up. The waitress said they use some sort of citrus wood to cook the steak in the fire with, and it added a really good flavor to the steak– no steak sauce needed. I can’t wait to go back

One of my favorite places to go in town for steaks. The food is great and service is awesome. It tastes great and the meat is always mouthwateringly juicy. I usually order their NY strip and baked sweet potatoes, and I never get disappointed. This place is a MUSTTRY. A little out of the way but definitely worth the drive, prices are also very reasonable!

Had an awful experience not just the food but the owner. We ordered a ribeye and a newyork strip. The ribeye was tough and undercooked. When we asked the waitress to take it back and give us another strip the owner rudely came to the table he argued that we had no idea what we were talking about. I finally had to tell him to make the strip and leave the table. I am amazed at the manner of a owner. The waitress was awesome and very good at her job and was as amazed as we were. We will never come back to this place ever again!!!

Great, awesome, incredible steak! Salad was fresh and served on a cold plate. Bread was warm and the baked potato was perfect. The meal was so good it’s hard to say whether the service or the food was better. Every staff member greeted me with a smile and had my requests to me in seconds! Unfortunately, the bar area is being remodeled. There is a fine line to keeping with the times and maintaining rustic value. I tend to lean more toward rustic for a cowboy steak house. I love this place! Only downfalls I can see: Lights are too bright. Décor seems like a rustic place attempting to keep with the time s. I’d like to see an old saddle, more wood, relic old school stuff. This place should stay away from the norm and be rustic. The crowd here is older, which is no problem. Howe be r the attempt to appeal to a younger crowd is a fail. The food speaks for itself. I’ll be back tomorrow! Highly reccomended to visit this place and share your thoughts. I’m sure you’ll feel the same

Were visiting our daughter at USF, and she requested a steak dinner. We came across this place and decided to try it. It is off the beaten path and when we walked in there were only a few other diners. We didn’t have the best feeling but we went ahead anyhow. So glad we did. The staff were just lovely and it turns out the steaks are terrific. The orange wood smoke flavor was delicious! Daughter said it was the best steak she’s ever eaten. We finished with a yummy chocolate cake. I love it when we try an unexpected place and it turns out to be fantastic.

We have been going to this place for close to 30 years through several owners and it seemed to always serve a good steak at a reasonable price. However the new prices were as much if not more than Outback, Longhorn, etc., etc. and not near the quality, we come during the Quarter Horse Shows and numerous people later warned us to stay away, too much $$$ and not the quality we had been accustomed too. My wife had the Cowgirl and it was grizzly and overcooked for the medium rare as ordered I had the rib-eye and the steak seemed awfully small compared to the same size steak at other steak houses for less $$ and again was grizzly but a least cooked rare as ordered. They must have there own employees and family posting these great results or the individuals posting have never had a quality steak, YOUWILLNOTFINDITHEAR. This area of Tampa has some of the best restaurants found anywhere, this is not one of them, dig a little deeper and enjoy your night out. Bill Senick

We tried this place, using Unilocal to find something close by the Tampa Hardrock that might be a hidden jewel. The prices were as much as Longhorn and other steakhouses. The décor is something I haven’t seen since the 70’s or 80’s; definitely an old building. My father and brother had the ribs and they looked good and they said they tasted fine. They seemed the best bang for the book. The wife and I had the rib-eyes and the steaks seemed awfully small compared to the same size steak at other steak houses. The wife complained that is was quite plain. Service was terribly slow and they weren’t that busy. We almost walked out at the beginning. They did apologize but it didn’t get any better for the most part. We wouldn’t ever consider going back.

We were excited to dine at The Frontier which is a little known gem of a restaurant. We were used to the dated western looking décor with servers who wore cowboy hats. We were surprised to find, when we arrived, that the restaurant had a re-model including the menu with a few additional items & increased prices. The waitress explained the restaurant has new owners. We were apprehensive at first because we depended on quality food that was prepared perfectly from the steaks to the chops to the chicken. We were relieved & delighted with the same delicious food cooked over orangewood.

Frontier served up a damn good steak. In fact, it was one of the best Ribeye steaks I’ve had in years. It was cooked to absolute perfection and the taste of the orange wood was pronounced in every bite. It was also seasoned perfectly and I will be back just for that. With that said, the steak and the service were the only highlights of the meal. The décor is so tacky and gaudy that it almost works in a weird, ironical way. To be frank though, everything else I ate there just sucked. The appetizers are obviously frozen, store bough crap. The salads are prepackaged and the dressings are poured from a bottle into a plastic cup. Nothing I ate, besides the steak and baked potato, was made in house. And in regards to the potato, it was cooked to hell. It was very dry and tough to eat. Thankfully the steak was as good as any steak at any top steakhouse in Tampa, and it’s also a great value. I just say, skip the salad, the rolls, the apps and the potatoes, and just go for the steak. You won’t regret that.

A repeat visit as part of a birthday party. Our party of 8 was more than 50% of the diners on a Tuesday night. We got great service from the bartender, and had the bar to ourselves. The main dining room was dark and only a few couples elsewhere. I had ribs this time and they were excellent for a very reasonably price. I am just amazed they can stay in business with this level of patronage, even if it gets busier on the weekend. On the bright side, the high volume noise level of the main dining room when busy is not a problem.

Why 3 stars? Because there is no half star option to accurately give a 3 and a half. — — — This was definitely a «good» 3-star restaurant. I can always appreciate a good steakhouse, especially an old-fashioned one like Frontier. The interior was very unique and made you feel like you were out in the old west. I’m from Texas, and I would imagine that Frontier is exactly the type of place people inaccurately imagine the entire state of Texas is like. Midland? Maybe. Houston, not so much. I found it pretty amazing that I had never even heard of Frontier, until I got a tip from a friend of a friend. It is truly the definition of a «hidden gem.» Now…you may be asking yourself(because I know my reviews set your inner-dialogue in motion) «Is it really a gem if you only gave them 3-stars?» I think it has«gem» potential. Again, my review is more of a 3.5 star, with plenty of room to go up in the future. I enjoyed my steak very much, I just wasn’t overwhelmed with joy while eating it. I’ll be back, and hope I can upgrade a star.
