This is an excellent place for barbecue, and their lunch special is a great deal. For $ 9 at lunchtime, you get any single meat, a side, and a drink. I had the ribs, and they were 3 meaty, substantial ribs that the cook chopped fresh from the smoker for me. The ribs were tender but still substantial to the bite. I love the orange colored sauce. I also had the excellent collard greens. They were perfect. And my fellow Unilocalers led me right with the pineapple iced tea recommendation. The neighborhood is a little rough. I probably wouldn’t go here after dark. And seating is limited. But the food is good, and I’d happily return.

Let me start by stating that I consider myself to be an EXCELLENT grill man and as a result, a BBQ snob. With that being said, this is some dang good BBQ. I went and got a rib sandwich and a pork sandwich. The staff was polite and efficient and I did not mind them not being overly friendly… I’m there for good BBQ not a smile fest. They bagged it up for me and I went home to chill, drink a cold beer, watch the playoffs and have some BBQ. My expectations weren’t all that high as I am usually disappointed when I purchase BBQ instead of hooking it up myself. I opened the Rib sandwich and immediately wanted to go back and hug the BBQ man. He had put a good deal of the chop pork that wouldn’t fit in the pork sandwich container on top of my ribs. I mean alot. So my first experience is eating through this mound of pork to get to my ribs… WINNING. The pork was moist, smoky, juicy with just the right amount of crispy bark here and there. The ribs very very good. Not tough, nice smoke, great flavor and texture. I’m not big on sauce but this sauce they have is excellent as well. You will rarely see me rate 5 stars but they get it.

I was in Tampa visiting and looking for good BBQ food. I came across this place. Rating looked good and so did the feedback. I have been to many mom and pop places believe me many of them have the best food. I didn’t even eat this food because when I was paying for it and I saw them putting it in my to go container the food was being taken out of storage bins, nasty dirty ass looking bins. I said to myself wtf I get the place is not presentable being it is in a ghetto area but damn I swear health codes were invalidation. Idk food might of been good like I said it had good reviews but I damn sure was not eating anything that was stored in nasty bins.

This BBQ place is busy event is 3 pm in the afternoon. A lot of people are here to pickup. If you don’t want to wait, you can call ahead. They have chop pork, rib, chicken and sausage. The best is their special sauce on the BBQ. Their sauce is orange tangy taste. It got some flavor on it. I have the four meat special for $ 16. The pack all the meat at on box almost cannot close the lid. Plenty of food. This is neighborhood BBQ. They only have a few table. Many come to have the take out. The also serve pineapple ice tea. It something different than most of the BBQ place.

This place offers delicious barbecue. We had 4 meats combo– ribs, chicken, pork and sausage. The two side dishes were baked beans and green beans. 2 piece of toast came with the box. The meat portion was generous and the smoky flavor was excellent. The orange color BBQ sauce was good, too. The pineapple tea was too sweet for me. After I added it with more water, it became a tasty drink. Super value we got from Konan BBQ for the taste and the amount of meat.

The place is in a sketchy neighborhood, but the food is AMAZING. I found out about them at the state fair and visited the following week. If I’m ever on this side of Tampa, this is where I’ll get lunch. The Taste of Carolina sandwich is my favorite! Highly recommend

The food here is excellent. I had the pulled pork dinner with macaroni and cheese. The pork was perfect, bbq sauce is awesome, and the mac and cheese was phenomenal. Washed it down with the pineapple iced tea and I was on cloud nine. Konans is run by good people as well, don’t judge a book by its cover because you will be missing out on some great food.

Hole in the wall with a capital H. The credit card machine crashed and we had to run to get cash. But they were going to give us the food and let us come back and pay another day. But we told them we were from out of town and not coming back the next day. That being said the food was great. It did set there for little bit so it got kind of lukewarm but it still taste great. I had to meet platter sausage chopped pork mac & cheese and baked beans. Stop by and check it out and again don’t be scared of the looks go in and get that food.

The first time I came by they were actually closed(don’t trust the Unilocal hours!) — the owner was there shutting down shop and said they typically close up around 7PM. He was very generous though and gave me a free order of BBQ chicken. He refused payment, so I left something for them in the tip jar. The chicken was quite tasty, and the sauce even better. Just like how my grandpa makes it. I came back the next day during normal business hours and got a rib dinner with mac & cheese and baked beans. The ribs were delicious! There were hearty portions of everything, and it all tasted made from scratch(i.e., not out of a box). Definitely plan on going back… it’s a little place but packs a big punch!

Yes, this is the real deal. I walked over from my hotel to try it out. When you walk up and see the wood piled up and smell the smoke you know you are in the right place. I went straight for the ribs which, besides brisket, is the best measure for barbecue. As someone else posted here, these are not«fall off the bone,» but rather tender and chewy – which is how I believe true barbecue should be. I guess you could say it is a peppery NC/Memphis style with a NC style sauce(if you want it). They use spare ribs including the tips which I like. The sides are not just an afterthought, but are solid, home cooking. I had the potato salad(yellow/egg) which is made just like my mom makes. I also had the baked beans which have some sausage in them. Yes, it is a hole in the wall, but that is what true barbecue connoisseurs appreciate. Everyone was very friendly and polite. I’ll definitely check them out again when I’m back in Tampa. Oh, and be sure your intestines have the fortitude to handle this food. But isn’t that also part of the allure? You’ve been warned. :)

Tried these guys at the state fair. Didn’t even have BBQ and I loved it. The flavor on the meat is unreal.

This place deserves 10 stars. They were at the State Fair and offered us a free sample of their meat. Boom! So we decided on BBQ for lunch. We ordered the pork/sausage/chicken with beans and slaw. Hands down the best sausage we’ve ever eaten(and my husband is a BBQ snob from Texas). Chicken and pork were awesome. The mustard based sauce was amazing! We will definitely be visiting their store in Tampa in the future.

So, we stumbled upon this little hidden gem when visiting Tampa a few months ago and have been raving about it ever since! We are back in Tampa on vacation and, of course, had to go again. The food was just as delicious as the first time! Ms. Debra, who is the owner’s mother, does a lot of the cooking and works behind the counter as well. She actually remembered us from our last visit and remembered how my husband(Anthony A. Previous Unilocal reviewer) liked his sauce. We were very impressed. Now, I must say, a few people may be a little put off by the outside, but don’t let that keep you from experiencing the best bbq of your life! Everyone is very welcoming and friendly. I almost forgot… you must try the pineapple tea! Delight your taste buds!!!

Pros: In my opinion this is the best BBQ in the Tampa Bay Area. The Gold Sauce is stuff of legends. Good family joint and great portions. Excellent Collard Greens, Mac N Cheese, great meats excellently smoked. Don’t forget the Lemonade or Pineapple Tea. Cons: Some people may be off put by the location but I am all for it.

Everything you want from your neighborhood bbq joint. A few tables inside but generally I take my food to go. The owners are nice people with all the southern hospitality you could ever want. I had the triple combo of ribs, chopped pork, and sausage. Ribs were probably the best I’ve had in town from similar bbq restaurants or food trucks. Tender, juicy, fall off the bone. Sausage was flavorful and had a nice bite. Chopped pork was ok. The real game changer is their tangy spicy bbq sauce. Most places have a few sauces but Konan’s has only the one because it’s the only one you need. That good. Definitely this place’s X factor. Mac n cheese was also premium. Some of the best in town. Potato salad was solid. Pineapple sweet tea was also very on point. Must try.

In town for a meeting and found this place on Unilocal. So we thought we would try it… It’s definitely your typical hole in the wall barbecue joint. In the middle of a neighborhood it sits right next to a store in a small plaza. The staff was great! Very friendly and helpful. Chris who took our order was extremely pleasant and helpful in suggestions. The barbecue was fantastic! I had the ribs with potato salad and baked beans. My colleague had the ribs with mac & cheese. The ribs were very well done great smoke flavor not too tender that they fell right off the bone but had a little bit of bite(which in my opinion is how they should be done). The sauce is a distinct mustard-based but very tasty. Would highly recommend visiting this place if you’re in the area. If I’m back in Tampa I will definitely return!

If there ever was a «hidden gem», this is it. Not those restaurants on the main drag that so often get the undeserved label from Unilocalers who just never noticed, but this. This hole-in-the-wall in a Carver City residential neighborhood, next to a barber shop and a tiny market, with a dirt parking lot. Yeah. So driving up you just know the Q is gonna be good. One. Table. Solamente uno. Take-out is your best option. The counter service is friendly and efficient and you’re good to go in no time. I ordered the Taste of Memphis. Chopped pork — as in, chopped to order right on the board — and smoked sausage on a bun with a mustard based sauce. Collards on the side, and a pineapple tea. Amazing. Tender, properly smoked pork. Delicious sausage. Collards that probably started cooking before the sun came up. Maybe even before it set last night. And the bun was just lost in all the meaty goodness. No way you’re picking this up to eat it. Use your entrenching tool. I’ve had barbeque all over Tampa. If this is not the best, it’s damned close, and I’ll put their pork up against anyone else’s. The ribs will be on my lunch menu next week. Konan should be on your lunch menu right now.
