I have been seeing Dr. Sainz de la Peña for about 8 years now, as I have hypothyroidism. It is VERY difficult to find a GOOD endocrinologist in Tampa. He is well respected and considered one of the best and I trust his opinion very much. He covers not only the thyroid, but checks the critical vitamin levels and a full panel, including lipids and takes the entire bloodwork results into consideration. He works in the western medicine world but includes some not-so western medicine philosophies and I can appreciate that as I am not one to jump right into taking a pill for every little symptom. He seems to want to get to the root of an issue and address that, not band-aid the symptom which is exactly how I think. I do have to say that I think he is WAY overbooked as the wait times over the last 8 years has slowly increased where during my last visit was 55 minutes just to get into the triage area and another 25 minutes waiting in the room for the Dr. I will do my best to get the very first appointment of the day in the future as it is quite time consuming, I could have left, picked up lunch, brought it back and eaten it in that amount of time. But because he is a great Dr, I still give it 4 stars!

My wife was referred to Dr. De La Pena for his respected reputation in his field. At the first visit we waited one to one & a half hours to be seen. He was quite nice & appeared knowledgeable. Tests were ordered and asked to return in 3 – 4 weeks. Yesterday we returned 15 min. early for my wife’s appointment at 11:30AM. We waited almost 2 and a half hours, and still not seen. We inquired as to the long delay and was told that the Dr. was running late. Yet no one bothered to tell us this so that we could have made other arrangements such as rescheduling or wait further. The office said that the Dr. did not want us to leave and would see us right away. Thirty minutes later, still not seen, so we left very disappointed. Other patients in the waiting room had the similar complaints. As a physician myself, neither I nor my office have ever treated patients this disrespectfully. I understand that some patient visits might be complicated & require more time, but a little courtesy by the dr. &/or his staff would have been nice and courteous.
