I’ve been highlighting my hair for almost 15 years now, and I’ve never been happier than with Derek. I tried a variety of salons when I moved to Tampa, some were way overpriced for the service and some (with big brand names) even damaged my hair. I was so happy to find Derek — he knows how to make the color look perfectly natural and keep my hair really healthy. He’s actually taught me a lot about the process and how it should really be done.
The results are clear — some people act surprised I even color my hair, others ask me where I get it done. It’s the perfect mix I found Studio 510 on a recommendation six years ago, and I’ve been recommending them ever since.
Oh, plus, it’s always a fun experience. You’ll look forward to your time there. :)

I’m a dude and I wouldn’t go any where else to get my hair cut. My wife had been going there for years and finally convinced me to give it a try. Glad I finally listened (don’t tell her that though)!

In my past experiences, being blonde has made trips to the hair salon quite stressful. There are so many color ranges and highlight width sizes that it became pretty rare to leave a salon with exactly what I wanted. That has all changed since I started going to Derek at Studio 510 five years ago. I leave his salon with the exact color and cut every time that I go! He is extremely dedicated to his craft and really understands the science behind hair coloring and styling. He often explains about the color molecules and how they bind and produce a certain color that is right for different skin tones… which goes completely over my head, but I am happy that he knows all of it!
I once asked him if I could put lemon juice in my hair between appointments to lighten up the roots a bit. He looked at my eyes and said because they are blue, without a ring around them, that I could. If they had the ring, then I could not. How does he have answers to questions like that?! Amazing.
They have a great line of products at his salon, but if I ever branch out and use a shampoo that he hasn’t previously recommended, he has me bring in the bottles of shampoo to read and make sure the ingredients won’t strip the color. Very dedicated to keeping my color intact!
All of the stylists at his salon are wonderful, they are a very talented group. They recently moved to a new location on Macdill and it is lovely. Very open and bright and welcoming, and always with the perfect soundtrack playing. I highly recommend checking out this salon. All of the services are very reasonably priced, plus they have an online appointment scheduling system on their website which makes planning an appointment even easier!

Derek is amazing! I was referred to him by a friend having just moved to South Tampa. His process and technique is really impressive in that it’s innovative, yet refined and simple. He is so dialed in to his craft. A true artist. Prices are extremely reasonable and I was out in 2 hours for consult, highlights, wash, cut, blow and style. I’ve never gotten out in under 3 hours with this head of hair.
Awesome experience, cannot wait for my next appointment!

Derek is awesome. He’s very friendly and honest. I got a shampoo, cut, and blow dry. It looked amazing and it only took 30 minutes! He made sure I got to keep my length and even added some new surface layers. The coolest part was that he spent time to teach me how to blow dry my hair. Not many stylists will take the time to actually teach you and make sure you can replicate your new hairdo. The atmosphere is nice and homey, but that is getting its on makeover soon since they are moving to a new location in about a month. I believe they have 6 different stylist. If you go through some of the photos on Unilocal you can see some of the amazing work they do. They also have convenient online booking, I was able to get a same week appointment! Overall, I had a great experience and will definitely be going back! You should make an appointment too!

Was able to make an appt same day and had great service and a nice trim, color and keratin treatment. Really excellent prices and laid back atmosphere.

This is a really great place. It’s clean, on time, and Derek really knows what he is doing. I always come and wait with my husband and I don’t mind it all because the couches are super cushy and they always offer me a drink. Driving around downtown Tampa is a beast, but studio 510 has parking in the back if you drive an enormous vehicle like I do (f350). Derek gave me the best haircut I have ever had, however it is his work with my husband that blows me away. I hope he doesn’t mind me putting this on here… But other men need to know… He has a receding hairline that is difficult for most stylists to cut and make look good. Derek can. He works miracles. If you know someone with a similar issue, Derek is the guy you want. For real.

I will never go anywhere else in Tampa for my hair. This place is amazing. They have great stylists, friendly staff and not crazy-​salon prices. There is an on staff estitician and nail techs. It’s a modern but cozy «hidden gem» of South Tampa.

Some good talent — owner does good color — not good cuts in my experience — be specific with what you want. You will probably have to wait a long time and personalities are strong (as are chemical fumes). It’s hard to find good color so I put up with it, and am happy with my hair color when I leave.

I had my first chemical peel with Luna a few weeks ago. I first met Luna when I purchased a Groupon for an aromatherapy facial a few months back. After the facial, they were offering an amazing deal on chemical peels & since I had always wanted to try one-​I seized the opportunity.
Luna is very warm & friendly & by the end of your appointment you will feel like you have been life long friends. She was very thorough with the different steps of the chemical peel explaining what each product did & how it would feel on my face. This was extremely helpful, as I was nervous about using anything too strong on my face. There was a little tingling with the peel portion, but nothing that hurt. She gave me all the details on what to do in the days after the peel (sun exposure, etc) & suggested some great products to think about getting next time I came in for facial moisturizers, etc.
I would definitely recommend coming to Luna for any type of facial, waxing, etc. She takes great pride in her work & has definitely researched the products that she uses. My Studio 510 experience was very pleasant & I felt comfortable every second I was in their «home».

Now, I really wanted to be crazy wowed by Studio 510. That being said, I had a great experience with my stylist, but it was just lacking something. The atmosphere of the place is pretty nifty. I loves me a salon that is in its own building and not in a strip mall. It feels more home-​like. Tons of little chandeliers hanging all over the place and a big comfy sectional couch in the center of the salon is great. Giant picture-​frame mirrors are a great touch, but… I’ll be honest… the seats at each station seem a little dated. Might be time to get a new set.
Irina, my stylist, was incredibly nice and was very pleasant to talk with while she was cutting my hairr (that’s right… two r’s!). My cut was pretty basic so I’m pretty happy. However, I think she may have gone a little shorter than I would’ve wanted since I said my hair sticks straight up if it goes to short (and it is… as I type this… I fighting against the hair product keeping it down like «the man»). However, I’m also a bad client when it comes to telling a stylist if I think he/​she should stop or not do something while she’s cutting.
I’m struggling on a 4 or 3 star rating… Curse you Unilocal for now allowing ½ stars! Ummmmm… you know what…4 stars because unlike Salon Jack, they were open at 6 o’clock to take my appointment on Tuesday. Who closes at 4pm on a Tuesday after being closed on Monday? Salon Jack does… and it’s lame. But… this is really a 3.5 review.
