Sur la Table is an all-in-one retail shop for a vast assortment of bakeware, barware, cookware, cutlery, electric cooking devices, kitchen gadgets, glassware, grilling tools, table linens, serving pieces, spices, sauces, table décor, and a whole lot more. This popular chain opened last Fall in Hyde Park, in the location on Dakota Avenue that was formerly the site of Restoration Hardware. Here, you’ll find a better assortment of kitchen stuff than at your neighborhood Bed, Bath & Beyond, and the prices are much more user-friendly than shopping in Williams-Sonoma. The staff can give you a lot of helpful advice, and they had people offering a cup of coffee and handing out freshly-baked goods on the afternoon that I was there. I was in the market for a couple of kitchen gadgets(a new jar opener, some oven mitts, and a digital thermometer), and so I decided to stop in to the store on a recent trip to Hyde Park. Like most cooking stores, the selection is just mesmerizing, and you’ll find yourself walking up and down the aisles thinking of all the cool ways that you could be using that new spatula, or whisk, or paella pan… OK, and then there were these seriously adorable egg molds that would let you make two sunny-side up eggs in the shape of a cat’s face. These are sooooo going on my birthday shopping list for Anna M. and Karen F. Sur la Table offers a nice knife sharpening service as well. If you bring in your kitchen knives, then they’ll sharpen them on the spot, and likely have them back to you within a day. The price for this service was $ 5 per knife /cleaver, with the first blade free. Call them first to make sure that you understand all of the details. I was able to get five knives sharpened for $ 20, and they were ready within a few hours. In the back of the store is a private room which is used for cooking classes. I’ve heard mixed reactions about these classes, and so I’ve not signed up for one, preferring my other venue for culinary instruction. I can’t say good or bad about the training, as I have not personally been to one of their classes. Other reviewers have commented that there’s really not much actual cooking or cook prep, but rather dumping pre-cut items into a mixing bowl. If that is true, then I’ll stay with my other option. Nonetheless, this is a great store to find all sorts of kitchen gadgets, and I encourage you to stop in the next time that you’re wandering through Hyde Park.

As I read through the reviews, one thing was obvious, many of the participants did not pay attention when they signed up for the class. There are demonstrations, and there are«hands on» cooking classes. If you want to learn, choose hands on, because you actually get to do the cooking! I had a fantastic time at my first cooking class at Sur La Table in Hyde Park, Tampa. I am a personal chef, self taught, and wanted to expand my knowledge and skills by learning French Pastry. This class is hands on, not a demonstration. The class was small and intimate, Chef Amy Palmer not only taught us technique, but also gave us some great lessons on chemistry, and the why behind how the ingredients work and react together. We made profiteroles with vanilla bean pastry cream, fruit tartelettes and chocolate truffles. The end results were beautiful and delicious,. I was very proud to take them home to my family, and to post pics on social media! Thank Chef Amy!

You don’t really come here to learn how to cook. Basically it’s all pre-prepared ingredients and you just put the stuff in a bowl. I did a Thai class, and the food was good. However, I was extremely irate that the bathroom was not working! First of all, how unsanitary! Second of all, what poor customer service. The chef spent too much time bragging about herself and gave sub-par directions.

I attended one of Sur La Table’s cooking classes. I was super excited when they opened because they have so many different types of classes offered almost every day of the week. I decided to take a Mediterranean class. When we arrived, they had pita bread and two delicious dips to snack on as well as water to drink. They divided the class into groups of approximately 4 and you did the cooking/prepping between the small group. I am giving this 2 stars only because it was not really a cooking class. We really did not cook anything. We did not prep much either. All the ingredients came pre measured and pretty much ready to put in a bowl and mix. We did chop herbs and garlic and used a mandolin on fennel but that was about it. The food was okay, not a ton of flavor. The other ladies in our group had taken a class before and commented that it was much better. Not really sure what that means though.

Quick Read: Friendly staff and everything you could ever need in the kitchen. The staff here is incredibly helpful, and truly wonderful at guiding you around the store. The store itself has everything you could ever want in a kitchen, and more.

What a great selection of pretty much anything you need and don’t need in the kitchen. Came here to buy Himalayan salt shot glasses to take my patron shots to a whole other level. While snooping around I saw that this place offers cooking courses. Which would be a great way to spend an evening with either friends or date. Glad this place came to the village. It’s good to see places like this pop up. Sign up for emails. You’ll be sent coupons and reminders of sale items.

Love this place. It is inspiring and I leave wanting to create a great feast. So many tools and gadgets. Though I must admit the tofu maker was better in theory. I was so excited til I got home and opened the box and read all the processes & directions. One day, when I have some time to kill, I’ll have to tackle that project. But seriously, this is a great place and I hope they make it in this location. Of course the prices aren’t cheap here. Don’t come expecting great deals. Though they do have sales. Tip: they have cooking classes. Check out the calendar online. I look forward to trying one.(Suggestion for them: pricing for the classes are a little on the high end. Maybe offer a package deal? Also, maybe one more vegetarian friendly option a month?)
