Went on a Saturday night, relatively early. It was fairly empty, so service was great. The bartender came over to our table with recommendations on food and beer, which was appreciated. We got the Anchor Fries, which are fries with chicken, cheese and their Anchor sauce, and they are delicious. Easily a big enough serving for 2 to share. Others ordered burgers and they commented on how good they were. The place isn’t that big, so it might not be the best for a large group. Lots of TVs. Very clean. Nothing too fancy, but a good place to just hang out.

I can’t believe this place is in downtown Tampa and they use frozen cod filets for their fish and chips… very disappointed.. but thankfully the beer was cold.

Excellent burgers across the board. Wide selection of beers on tap. This is a hole in the wall bar with great food and a lot of tv’s. It’s a great hang out after a long day. Bartender gives it to you straight on beer questions. I’ll be back.

I like the Anchor Bar. It’s not pretentious and it doesn’t pretend to be anything that it’s not. It’s a quaint little small Downtown Bar that offers up some pretty good food. They have a full bar and offer discounts at certain hours of the day. I’ve had a few food items but I will have to give props to their burgers. The burgers are always fresh and made exactly the way that I ordered it. It’s hard to go wrong with a good burger. When I’m in the area, yes I will stop in again and would recommend it to anyone to try. Once again it is not a date night type of establishment, but it’s just to hang out Cool vibe type of place that is a nice stuff for your evening. What’s a girl to do? Go where you feel comfortable and can lay back and have a good time.

The Anchor Bar is a chill laid back bar or well laid out, clean bar that is non smoking which I like the most. Clean, roomy and with a not so crowded that is a staple here in Tampa. Nick and Hillary are great bartenders that keep the good vibes going with cold drinks and great personalities. The bar area is set up well with a nice bar top that has great views of patrons. This is your typical bar and there is nothing to rave about. Actually was on the more quite side for a bar. Music is solid with a jukebox ready to roll, the menu is amazing for bar food. They serve expected bar style food. I had my regular Chicken Quesadilla’s which tasted yummy. Draft selection is average with a full line liquor or spirits available.

What a great find for a burger, a cocktail, and a friendly and cute barmaid. A port in a storm.

Stopped here for happy hour on Monday. The atmosphere was pretty chill, very much a sailor theme(perfect for all you Gasparilla fans!). I didn’t get a chance to try any of the food, probably because they didn’t have any food items on their happy hour menu. Their drinks were alright. We ordered vodka cranberries and vodka pineapples. They were $ 5 each, but pretty water-downed for our tastes. Might give it another chance, but it was eh, nothing special.

Hangover burger again… not as good as my previous visits. Coppertail Night Swim no longer on tap, I’m very, very, very sad… did I mention, I’m very, very, very sad about the lack of Coppertail Night Swim on tap???

Anchor bar is a great little dive bar to get away from some of the overcrowded, overpriced bars nearby. There are plenty of TVs and you are sure to meet some fun people during your stop.

Just came into this place with a large group for a bar crawl. We had been drinking and having a good time. In walks the older bartender with grey beard and awful attitude. We ordered tons of drinks and food. We also ordered complementary gold fish. Nick, the other bartender was great. He served us all while the chubby bartender gave me attitude for ordering free gold fish. Do you understand how crazy this sounds??! The chubby old bartender told me he was too busy to serve me free gold fish. I feel awkward writing this review but the dude was a jerk.

Rolled in on Thursday evening. Grabbed a burger and had a couple cocktails. Had great conversation with Nick the barkeep. Will be coming back next time I’m in Tampa.

This place is great. Very low key and friendly. They have a good selection of draft beer and prices were very reasonable. Bartender was first rate. I’ll be back!

I stopped by on Thanksgiving eve for a drink and a quick bite to eat. Apparently Wednesday is Hospital/Hopitality night meaning us healthcare grunts get a bit off the tab as well as the rest of the hospitality world, which is awesome. The best part of my experience though, was the food. I ordered a BBQ bacon cheeseburger and it was so good that I ended up tipping the bartender and then additionally tipping the cook just to let him know how happy I was with my meal. I actually have never done that before so there you go. I will definitely be back.

Stopped in very hungry and had some great burgers. The place was full and only one person handling the bar and tables, ended up not being an issue. He managed to give great service to everyone without us having to wait for anything.

This place is a perfect, I mean PERFECT, place for those of you who like low key cool atmospheres. Perfect for those who like«hole in the wall» type joints. Try the«off the menu» x-hot sauce on the wings for you heat freaks. Egg rolls are awesome and the chili cheese fries kick some serous quantity butt! Great food. Great people.

Great place to grab a beer, a cocktail or some quick snacks. This is Anchor Bar’s second location, their first still operates on Davis Islands in South Tampa. Anchor Bar is perfect for a downtown lunch, an afternoon drink, or a late night snack. Their prices are appropriate for the neighborhood, and I’ve always had great service when I’ve visited. Their wings are fantastic, but be sure to try the Hangover Burger! Might be one of the best fried egg burgers I’ve tried in a long time. The hand cut fries are very good as well. Cant wait to come here again.

Nice find. Pleasant staff. Nice selection of beers I enjoyed the Sweetwater Pale Ale. The anchor burger was a large hunk of beef cooked as I asked. Lettuce tomato and the spice mayo were excellent. Salads are enormous and not saturated in salad dressing. All round good find. And for us upper 50’s set, the music track was excellent. Dry Cajun wings reportedly good by my wife. They were gone before I could get one

Very glad to see this joint open downtown; the Davis Island location was cool but kind of «out of the way» for most people, at least for me. Tried it Saturday night and had a good time. Drinks were reasonable, bartender was alone but quick and accommodating, and it just has a good vibe. Décor is great and there are a lot of TVs for the space… which I have to admit, isn’t very large. Overall, glad to see downtown growing and Anchor Bar is a fitting addition! Note 1 important negative: ONE bathroom! It wasn’t busy the night I was there, but this could be a terrible situation on any other night. Don’t get that, the 1 bathroom is large enough for 2 separate. TIP: Located on Twiggs, not Franklin!

My lovely husband and I decided to do a date night at Tampa Theatre. We decided to head downtown early for some pre-movie drinks. Without a plan of where to go, we stumbled into The Anchor Bar. I really liked it! We sat at the bar and the bartender that was serving us was so friendly and chatty. My husband, who is a beer guy, was impressed with the fact that Anchor Bar had all of his favorites on tap(Jai Alai, Fat Tire, etc). I had a beer and then saw that it was 25% off wine on Wednesday so I switched to wine. For a glass of Nobilo that is usually $ 7, the 25% off was quite nice! This is a smaller establishment, so I would not recommend coming in with a large group but it is a great spot to catch a game and hang with friends. There was a good mix of regulars and newbies the night we were there. Tip: The bartender makes a signature shot called the Flaming Pumpkin. Fireball Whiskey and pumpkin beer. I didn’t get a chance to try it, but it is definitely intriguing!

The Anchor Bar of Davis Island has opened another location in Downtown Tampa. It is just a few doors down from Eddie & Sam’s and Jerk Hut. Everything is pretty much the same as the DI location: the interior, the seating, the bar set up. This location is also small and quaint as its sister location. Good news too! Your favorite bartenders(Jenna, Jen, Nick, etc.) from DI work the bar here also. Food options and quality are the same. Selection is diverse and food is just as delicious. Restroom remained the same too: one restroom. One. I am not a huge fan of this situation. There were several lines tonight. Thank goodness I didn’t have to go so bad that I had to wait in one. If you are an Anchor Bar fan like I am, check this location out. Be mindful that the whole block is 514 N Franklin Street and this location isn’t too visible if you aren’t paying attention.
