This is a very nice Carnegie Library in a historic area of Tampa. According to the historical marker in front it was the site of Tampa’s first cigar factory!!!(which didn’t last long). There are internet stations, a children’s reading area, they do classes such as Spanish, and they have. wait for it. BOOKS!!! Videos too I believe. Libraries are great resources. I also encourage walking around the area down to main and over a bit to see the local businesses and historic architecture. Bar-B-Que King, West Fortune Seafood Market(they serve meals as well as sell seafood), 813, Lanna’s and other lil places are pretty cool. It’s definitely a little skethcy around the area but people are friendly. It’s time for West Tampa.

Despite the historic origins, this library has learned to go with the flow. The library racks are fairly limited, with a focus on light popular reading. Magazine section is minimal, and reference is simply going to the main counter to ask any questions. However the heart of the library is now electronic, from computerized card catalog, to scanned checkout, to a room and a half of desktop pc’s on a LAN and wifi access for those who bring laptops. Most of the workstations are busy, mostly kids, especially after school in this low-income neighborhood. The buidling also serves as polling place and a community meeting room. So Andrew Carnegie’s gift continues to enrich the neighborhood… FREE

Libraries are awesome. This one it’s in a historic Building. Not too many people go to libraries, I like them a lot. This one was donated by the Carnegie Foundation a 100 years ago. The interesting thing is that they have an inscription on the front: FREELIBRARY. We shouldn’t take things for granted. This Library is cool and has neat colored glass.
