Man where do I start with this place… Let me just be blunt about it if you want good food and don’t really care how clean the restaurant is then this is your place but if a dirty restaurant bothers you then you better run for your life. I really want to rate this place 5 stars because the food is pretty good for local carryout Chinese, I mean it’s not the best but it’s above average and the people always seem pretty nice. I absolutely love the food here and when my family wants Chinese this is the place we usually go but their is no way around it the place is a mess. The place is dirty, falling apart, rundown, full of junk and stuff that should have been thrown away years ago, dusty, old. and just down right a mess. To be honest the fact that this place passed health inspection baffles me they must have some really low standards for businesses around here. Oh and did I forget to mention the few times I came here in the winter time the place was almost as cold indoors as it was outdoors and everyone inside was wearing a jacket because they were freezing. A renovation would really do wonders for this place the food is good and the people are nice but the place is just in really bad shape.

We decided to get Chinese carryout last night, so I called New Asia in Taneytown to place an order. I’ve been going to this place for years. It’s had a number of owners, and the place has never been pretty, but the food has been pretty good. So when I called yesterday, the voice of a toddler answered, and eventually the baby’s mother picked up the phone and took my order. «Ten minutes!» she said, and knowing from experience that she’d be calling me if I wasn’t there to pick up the food when it was ready, I told her it would be about half an hour before I got there. After what actually was more like 45 minutes, I drove up to the restaurant, noticing that it looked shabbier than usual from the outside. A cop had a car pulled over near the front of the restaurant, so I went past and waited until it was completely clear before taking a u-turn and pulling up in front of the restaurant to get my food. I walked in, and it was dark. All of the lights were off. I heard some scurrying around and then the woman yelled out, «It’s almost ready!» and disappeared into the kitchen. Try as I might, I could not smell even a trace of Chinese food or cooking coming from that kitchen. Pretty annoyed that even after 45 minutes my food wasn’t ready, and coming to the realization that they were just then starting to cook my order, I took a good look around. What I saw, everywhere I looked, was filth. Dust covered everything, including the Christmas decorations that I know haven’t been taken down in years. A thick layer of dust even coated the cash register. After standing there for about five minutes, I decided that I no longer wanted to take home anything that had been made in that restaurant for my family to eat. So I grabbed their order pad and wrote on it, «You need to clean up this place. It’s disgusting!» I then yelled out for them to not bother cooking my food, that I was leaving. And I left. As I’m walking out the door, the woman comes running out, yelling at me to come back, saying that my food was ready. I told her that my food was NOT ready, that there was not even a smell of food in that restaurant, and that it was so filthy that I didn’t want to eat anything they made. I proceeded to my car, parked out front, still with the cop a few spots behind, with the car he’d pulled over. This is when it turned into a scene from a Seinfeld episode. The husband(the chef, I assume) comes running out of the restaurant, waving his hands at me to stop. By this time, I’m in my car, so I lock the doors and turn on the engine and proceed to get the hell out of there. This doesn’t stop him. He comes and stands in front of my car, which I then start driving toward him. Thankfully, he moved out of the way, but then he was beside my car, banging his hands on the roof and window of my car! I’m moving up to the intersection, and the light turns green. There’s a truck taking a left, a car swerving around it to go straight(almost hitting me), me trying to get away from the raving lunatic beating on my car, and he’s running alongside! Finally, Chinese restaurant man gives up and I get through the intersection. My heart is pounding, and I call my husband to let him know that we’re done getting Chinese food from that place! Got gas, went home, and ordered a BLT from the store here in town. Never again! Seriously, people, avoid this hole. It’s filthy, and they’re crazy!
