Smuggler’s Cove

Great food, large menu, and décor is seriously outdated atmosphere is dark and enclosed. The carpet is the worst part. But again the food was great, the service was a bit slow to come but good. Some specialty menu items for people w/​special diets would b great, & revamp on sides items, because some things seem to much like diner choices.

We are local to this restaurant and visited fairly regularly. Most of the time, meals are good, once in awhile, not so good. However, during Soft Shell Crab event, (my all time favorite) we went with great expectation and I ordered the fried JUMBO soft shell crabs. When they were served, neither of the SMALL crabs had any legs and were so overcooked they were completely dried out and hard. When server asked if everything was OK, I told him to take my plate away and explained why. He asked if I wanted a replacement, but I wasn’t willing to give the cook at second shot at disappointing me. Twenty minutes later, I was told by the server that the Chef agreed that the crabs should have never left the kitchen and the manager (who never came to the table) was taking the cost of the meal off our bill. Five minutes later, our server returned to to advise us that, we would be charged $ 4.00 for the salad that was one of the two sides that I order with my meal. We paid the bill, including the $ 4 salad. The server also told us that the Chef was keeping my dish to use it as a training tool for the cook who had prepared my order.
Here’s my problem with all of this. First, my husband is a chef and said nothing should leave the kitchen without a chef or expediter checking it. Second, they charged me for one of the side dishes to my meal. Thirdly, if the manager of the restaurant had any concern about customer satisfaction, he would have approached the table and apologized for the disappointing meal or at least showed he gave a damn. The restaurant was not busy.
So, a bit of advise. If you are looking for excellent seafood, take the drive and go to Easton and visit Marblehead Chowder House. We have never had a bad meal there and customer service is number one. We had friends visiting from Baltimore and took them to Marblehead for dinner. I recommended the crab cakes and they said that crab cakes are always disappointing other than in MD. I ordered the crab cakes and made them both taste them. They said that they were as good as any they ever had locally. We will never waste our time or money at Smuggler’s Cove again.

Customer service was friendly but waiters don’t the menu and service was slow.

We’ve been to Smugglers Cove twice and each time was great. Food is amazing. I had the Lobster Mac & Cheese and my boyfriend had the Crab Au Gratin. We both agree to stop here anytime we are in the Tannersville area or even passing not by. Donna is the definition of perfect customer service!

Great food, good service. Both my husband and I had the catch of the day and it was delicious. If you have room for dessert make sure to order the pineapple upsidedown cake it’s amazing!!!

Excellent fish restaurant in the Poconos. Very accommodating staff… can serve you quickly if you’re in a rush. My favorite is Tilapia Cajun style.

Stopped by for dinner while visiting Camelback. Great food and service. 4 stars for both.

Reminiscent of an old fisherman’s village, this dimmed cove is adorned with ors, hanging life size plastic fish, and the typical ship in a bottle.
My partner in food crime and I ordered a dozen Blue points and to my disappointment, they were out of. So instead ordered the James River Oysters and the Shrimp cocktail appetizer.
The flavor tasted like the ocean as it should, with a bit of salty goodness. The Shrimp was cooked to perfection.
The entrée we had was Surf & Turf, and Crab Au Gratin casserole. Both were deliciously satisfying and priced just right for the flavor and amount.

I am sorry to report this because I typically like to commend places that provide great food and service but I felt compelled to warn all incoming customers and Unilocalers, STAY AWAY FROM THE OYSTERS! They served us a dozen oysters with a worm that was found in the oyster. One of my friends removed the oyster and placed it on the table to inspect it and yes it was a small thin worm. When we told the waitress about it she was genuinely embarrassed and concerned and told her manager. She came back to apologize but stated that her manager told her to say that once the oysters are shucked, the restaurant does not have any liability as far as what is inside of the oyster.
As my friend would say «What a load of horse sh$t!» We were comped the plate of oysters but were not offered any other appetizer for free to substitute nor did the manager come over herself to apologize. That is just poor customer service. Aside from that the food was just ok. We did not hold the server at fault as she did try to make the evening enjoyable for our group reunion. We could tell she was just told to hold the company line. However our group did warn her that from now on she should never be put in a position to say such outrageous things and to be the one to «do the dirty work». That’s what managers get paid to do.
Obviously they need to retrain their shuckers and retrain or fire management!
And yes I as well as my group all own businesses so this comes from experience.

I really enjoyed myself on Friday. I can’t eat meat on Fridays so we went here. What better place then a seafood restaurant. They have a fantastic selection of items for dinner. I got the jumbo lump crab stuffed shrimp. They are really good! The drinks were amazing. The bartender knew fro the sip that I didn’t like my drink and he replaced it, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. What a great bartender! We were there from 8pm til close (10:30). Was a group of us that sat at the bar. The calamari was an app and it was half price. Great choice! Definitely will go there again!

Great food and fantastic service worth the stop if you’re heading through the pococnos

Great food and drinks. The mango mojito’s are great everytime. And I can’t get enough of their calamari, with the chilli sauce. The service is always good, never a wait and always with a smile. They even have a good happy hour.

Horrible service. My moms soup and steak were cold after waiting about 45 min to be served. My cousins salmon seemed to taste only grilled and not seasoned what so ever. They forgot my brothers broccoli and my friends steak was bleeding when he asked for well done. Then we asked to speak to the manager… a lady comes over to help us and come to find out she wasn’t even a manager. Do not come here people!!!

Nice lunch during holiday shopping. I had the crab quesadilla. It was real crabmeat with sides of sour cream, guacamole, and homemade pico de gallo. Perfect portion for lunch. Hubby had a custom burger that was cooked perfectly. He was happy with his selection, as was I.

Great food and great service. Beef LT was awesome. Cody was our waiter and was pleasant and engaging. Never had a bad experience at Smugglers Cove.

Great food and fun atmosphere! Outstanding Prime Rib. The place was really busy for a Tuesday night so service was a little slow. However, we’ll worth the wait. Great food presentation and super friendly service. I came her for the seafood because the hotel I’m staying recommend it, but when I saw the Prime Rib I couldn’t pass it up. Well worth it. A perfect Medium Rare at 8 o’clock at night. Thank you for a great meal.

I’ve been here twice with my wife. The portions are small considering the price they charge. Food was average. Prefer to buy seafood from a supermarket and cook it myself. Enough said.

I stopped by with my family on our way home from Niagara to NJ. Saw the ratings and was impressed; however very disappointed with my husband’s seafood platter. The flounder was spoiled and the nasty juice was on the platter. Our server quickly replaced it with a salmon but I feel we shouldn’t have had to pay $ 30 for something we didn’t enjoy. Wont visit again :(

Complete rip off. My husband ordered a lb of crab legs and his plate looked like it was only enough to feed a small child. My coconut shrimp although delicious was the size of an appetizer. We were charged for 2 margaritas that we didn’t have. I feel like we wasted so much money and left still hungry. The only thing we did enjoy was the salad bar.

Great meal here. My colleague recommended this place to me. The ambience was very warm and homely. We had Seafood Norfolk (came with two sides) and cheeseburger (with one side) as well as the Mozerella sticks! Seafood Norfolk was slightly too salty but I had steamed broccoli to balance that out. It was a great experience overall and we will definitely be back again!

Appetizers are really good. Service was great. The waitress laughing like a hyena next to the bar is the biggest negative about my experience. My parent’s dinners were beautiful and apparently delicious since there were no leftovers.

Went for dinner and lunch and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and the food was great! The salad bar was great with fresh produce and well maintained. The Ahi Tuna was exceptional, my nine year old could not keep his hands off :) It was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Ordered a martini made w/​top shelf vodka, received a Banker’s Club martini & a Pepsi. Huh? We got more seafood in a seafood chowder from a local, cheesy diner than in any of the over-​priced entrees this place serves.

The food was OK. The waitress was very friendly. The prices were outrageous for the amount of food you got. I would not return here

Came here on Valentine’s Day w/​another couple, may I quickly add that this area has VERY limited restaurant options. Meh! But anyway, we found this restaurant after driving back & forth looking for it and only had to wait about 10 mins for a table without a reservation. We ordered the lobster bisque, crabmeat stuffed shrimp which comes w/​2 sides (we got fries and steamed broccoli) and the crabmeat stuffed lobster tail w/​2 sides (salad bar and steamed broccoli). The lobster bisque was thick and they topped it w/​fresh lobster meat, it was really good when u dipped the free rolls into too. The salad bar had a large supply of light green romaine lettuce and a small supply of spinach greens. It was pretty well stocked, not like Ruby Tuesdays bar, but it definitely got the job done. The steamed broccoli was seasoned w/​salt and pepper. Both the shrimp and lobster were really good and cooked well. We finished our meal w/​strawberry cheesecake which they advertised as being from «The Poconos Cheesecake Factory». The cheesecake was VERY good, perfect balance of salt and sweet HOWEVER it didn’t have a crust, that’s 1 of the best parts of cheesecake :(Service was slow, but the company made it nice.
In summary, considering the area & it’s limited options, it could get 4 stars, but because I live near DC and have had very good food, I would give them a 3, hence the 3.5 eating.

I think a 3 star rating is a little low, but a 4 is too high. This is a solid 3.5 star restaurant. The service has been extremely friendly both times I’ve visited so kudos to them for that. My first visit was a solid 4 star experience from a food point of view. I had some of the best Kumamoto oysters I’ve ever eaten at this restaurant. The burger was delicious and the NE Clam Chowder was wonderful. On my second visit the food was not at the same level, but good none-​the-​less. In all fairness it was New Year’s Eve and they were swamped. The filet was a little overdone and the lobster tail was as well, but the flavors were still on point.
Go for lunch or early dinner before the crowds get there and stick with the catch of the day or seafood specialties.

We happened to drive by and thought we’d give it a try. We were not disappointed.
The staff was friendly and accomodating. I was surprised to see a cuban sandwich on the menu. Glad I tried it because it was tasty and it was a generous portion.
My family had burgers and fries which were nicely done.
We will certainly return to try more of the menu items.
