Great New Mexican food at a great price! More of a café feel on the inside. Not what you expect from the exterior. Service was good. Would recommend.

Amazing. The service was awesome! Everyone made sure we were good and didn’t need anything. The food came out… I was impressed. The Queso is from a can, but I like it! I had the half order nachos and that was more then enough. The beef fajitas were awesome too! The beef is seasoned just enough! Next time I’m in town I will be back. Good food, good service and even better prices!

The best thing of this meal was my ice tea. I ordered chips and salsa and it was straight out of the can. The queso had no flavor and the salsa tasted like picante. My mom ordered menudo, I told our waitress to take it off the bill, it wasn’t good, it didn’t taste fresh. The man at the register was rude and gave us dirty looks. Oh well, won’t be coming back here. This not the best that Taos has to offer.

World-class New Mexican fare. A favorite with the locals of Taos. Best enchiladas I have ever had. Service is slow and somewhat disengaged. Food was luke-warm when it came out. But the sauces and ingredients that they put together are pure New Mexico, and better than anything we can get at home in Texas. I am a fan.

This is a breakfast stop for us during certain times of the year. The food is always good and you get a fair sized amount for your money. Their breakfast burrito is in our top ten and the green chili is flavorful without being to spicy. The only downside is the coffee. We cannot figure out what is being done to it or what they are using, it’s undrinkable. Kind of thin yet bitter tasting so we stick with a glass of water and grab a coffee further down the road.

Based on the advice of previous Unilocalers, I made my way into El Taoseño today after a 9 hour drive. First, I wanted a drink. I ordered a margarita. Not only was it terrible, it was wine based. I didn’t realize this until I saw the bill. I, unfortunately, am allergic to wine. I am driving away with hives on my face. The food was just plain bad. I asked for the waiter’s recommendation. She told me to order the borracho burrito. It was a tortilla wrapped around a crumbled up dry hamburger patty. Not appetizing. The rice was white minute rice and the beans were straight out of the can. My boyfriend’s enchiladas were a little better. Same rice and beans, though. The place is really a diner that happens to serve some«Mexican» options. Think dinner at IHOP. I’m only giving two stars because the place seems like it has potential for breakfast. I will not ever be back, though.

A large dining area that was noisy and felt as if we were dining with everyone. The food was ok for Mexican cuisine. The service could have been better but we were there on a Sunday and the place was packed… so evidently a great local restaurant. I had to ask to many questions as to what was in the entries so I probably wouldn’t return for that reason. Got a side of green chilies & after tasting an odd taste, found out that it had been cooked with pork. Vegetarians beware… not much here for you !

This is the local secret. Apparently, according to an acquaintance, everything is good here. I had a smothered, open-face green chile cheeseburger & loved it! He had his usual– menudo. Helpful & friendly staff puts the cherry on top!

Not my best breakfast in New Mexico, but this wasn’t bad either. I had huevos rancheros with green chile and it was quite good. The rest of my family had better or not as good breakfasts. This may be the best cheaper New Mexican place in town. It is certainly more of a diner than anything close to fine dining.

Breakfast enchiladas were delicious! As was the Taos omelette. The good pretty much ends there. Service was not exactly friendly, and I was asked if I wanted the bread(sopapilla) after I finished eating. «Yes!» Was my response, and I never saw her again. Recent ad says«newly remodeled dining room». Really? It was dumpy to say the least, what was it before, dirt floors and a canvas roof?

Holly crap the food was great! The place is not fancy or pretty, but service is friendly and quick. Green chili & salsa are spicy & tasty. Get it on the side! Skip the queso.

We were very excited to eat here. People in the parking lot going out told us it was great. Went in, got seated and sat, and sat, and sat. The place was not busy, about on third full. After about 20 minutes we were wondering what the heck. Then some latinos came in and they were served right away. I don’t know about Taos but where I come from this is bull — t. We never did get served, no one said a word when we left very slowly and with deliberation. My conclusion, they are racists. They would not serve us because we were not Latino. Shame!!! And the food, who cares. ps who charges $ 4 for chips and salsa?

I really, really wanted to love my dinner, but alas, I did not. I had been to El Taoseno 15 years earlier with a friend and I do remember taking full advantage of the $ 5 beer bucket. Maybe that was the reason I remembered the food being so good. On this trip however, with kids, and no beer bucket, the food was just ok. I had chicken enchiladas and although there was nothing wrong with them, they were just so-so. The chili(I had both red and green) was good, but also lacking flavor. Even a little salt would’ve helped. My 10 year old mentioned that her chicken burrito was«too plain». The waitresses were as nice as could be, and that’s a plus, but I think you could probably find some more tasty food elsewhere. :(

Some might call it a hole in the wall– i would have to agree. It looks like an old Bingo Hall with all the mixed up furniture… but holy smokes don’t let that fool ya. This place is good. So good that we had it twice in our 3 day trip to Taos. I had a guacamole tostada plate the first time. Not on the menu, but seriously so good. Then I had the tamale plate with green chilli. The chilli is spicy, but left me wanting more. You also get sopapillas– I mean come on! We were recommend by a «local» and so glad we tried it out. I wouldn’t let the inside fool ya– take a random seat and sit back and enjoy. Should you order a guacamole tostade– tell them Summer sent ya!

My first impression of this place? Whoa… it looks like a bingo hall. How old is this furniture? But despite the humble setting, I’d eat at this place on the regular if I was local. Great eats for cheap. Yummy breakfast & soapapillas. I bet everything else is good too.

Place does not look like much, but it was the best New Mexico food of the trip. I had the Taoseno Steak, done perfectly. With the sopapillas, too much food. Someone else in our group had the Trout, also done perfectly. Even the house wine was better than normal. Go there when in Taos.

I grew up in New Mexico and as an adult visit as often as I can. This is excellent Northern New Mexican eats. I hadn’t read all the Unilocal reviews so I was initially surprised by the very modest décor. Part of the surprise was due to the outside not matching up with what was on the inside. When in Taos eat here! I had the combination plate and my lady had the burrito plate. We were both very pleased!
