Great change of pace from the typical Taos/Southwest cuisine. They obviously take the dishes they offer seriously. Even the iced tea is exceptional.

Just horrible staff and horrible food and they asked a man to leave cause he needed to use the bathroom and they wouldn’t let him unless he bought food

Our lunch was delicious! Tucked away in a little alley-street, casual, mostly outdoor seating. It was perfect. Cash or check only. We had New Mexican Caesar, carnitas taco, and rajas taco(poblano chile). Gluten free if you get the salad without crutons.

We enjoyed pork tacos and a rice bowl(this little piggy – delicious sauce). The service was friendly and we enjoyed sitting outside. The restaurant kept busy the entire time we were there – appeared popular with the locals. The best thing we ate was a homemade cookie – chocolate chip, walnuts, and more topped lightly with sea salt – which is worth a stop just alone for that.

First, let me say the food is excellent. We’ve eaten at Hero many times and our meals have been some of the best counter service/lunch that I’ve had. We’ve noticed that the apparent owner or manager behind the counter is frequently angry and yelling at employees. We ordered standard food off the menu today, requesting that the mayo/sauce be held from our kids dishes. That’s it. We waited longer than usual, so we sent our poised, mature, and polite 12 year old daughter into the restaurant to wait for our food. The owner/manager berated and belittled her for our«special order.» She came out embarrassed and withdrawn. We confronted her, and all she could say was, «Well, you’re eating here today.» If you want EXCELLENT food, but do not care about a rude, entitled, angry owner, then eat here. I WOULDNOT recommend this place for families, or anyone who may want to hold the mayo.

Just had a great sandwich there today. Perfectly cooked meat, just enough kick to maintain the savory flavor. Kind, quick service. Definitely worth your time and money. 5⁄5 would eat again

Delicious! Stop by! Great staff and even better food. It is small but amazing. The Japanese dressing is fantastic on the salad!

This place is an absolute must for lunch. My girlfriend grew up in Taos and Hero is one of her favorite places to eat. I highly recommend their rice bowls, tacos and curry. The homemade corn tortillas are delicious. The staff is friendly and the shop is inviting.

I ordered special of the day hot pot green curry and it was one of the best curry ever… my husband’s Korean meatball was gone in a split second. He literally hoovered it. It’s a small café but all of the of foods are deli.

Very small place and hardly ever open, but no better place for lunch in Taos. I had a great Cuban sandwich and a perfect salad. They have some Asian influenced selections as well and it’s obvious that great care is taken with everything. I loved Café Ricochet when these guys owned it so I followed them here on this trip to Taos – different location, but same superb quality.

Stopped by to get a sandwich to go. All employees were cordial and answered all my questions about ingredients patiently. I chose the Tuscan which is a bologna and salami – but believe me it’s not like any bologna and salami sandwich your mother made for your lunch. The meat was thinly sliced on a very tasty bun with cheese. It is like something you’d buy in an old Italian deli. The restaurant is fairly small but very inviting.

This was the worst«dining» experience I’ve had in 15 years of enjoying Taos’ varied culinary options. We visited Hero during their first week of opening and it was very clear from the moment we walked in that the kinks had not been worked out yet… no problem for us, we are patient people. The tension was palpable in the small space but we overlooked that because the food coming out from behind the exposed kitchen space looked very good. The woman«in charge» that was preparing the food was berating her staff loud enough for customers to hear. We placed a simple order of a sandwich and a salad. After waiting more than a half hour and seeing that other folks that ordered after us were eating their lunch I made the huge mistake to ask if there had been a problem with our order or if perhaps it had been lost. The very sweet girl at the register went to the«woman in charge» and asked when our ordered would be done. «Its up next!» she yelled. The young gal said to me, «I’m sorry for the delay, it will be right out» at that moment the woman YELLED, «don’t apologize, this is not subway!» She was right about that… subway is much more pleasant. In ten minutes our food came out… it was good, I have to admit, but the rude woman in the kitchen left such a bad taste in my mouth I could not enjoy our lunch. If you can’t stand the heat and be pleasant at the same time, stay out of the proverbial kitchen.

Visionary Shelia Guzman knocks it out of the park, again, in her fabulous lunch counter off Taos Plaza. Super fresh, super delicious. You’ll make a giant mess with these beautiful sandwiches… and lick every last delicious dribble off your hands!
